WI vs PAK: Farhan, Ayub star as Pakistan take series-clinching win by 13 runs

Pakistan wrapped up a 2-1 T20I series win over the West Indies with a composed 13-run victory at Lauderhill on Monday, August 4. A strong opening stand from Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan set the tone, before Pakistan's bowlers held their nerve in the closing first, Pakistan got off to a flying start with Ayub and Farhan putting together a dominant 138-run partnership that lasted until the 17th over. The pair combined aggression with smart shot selection, frustrating the West Indies bowlers who failed to make early inroads. Alzarri Joseph eventually dismissed Farhan, but Pakistan continued to pile on the runs in the final overs, finishing with a challenging total of response, the West Indies made a promising start. Openers Jewel Andrew and Alick Athanaze came out with intent, looking to make the most of the powerplay. However, Haris Rauf's raw pace proved too much for Andrew, who found Hasan Ali at long-on with a mistimed shot. Athanaze continued the counterattack but found little support from his captain, Shai Hope, who struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Hope's struggle ended when Mohammad Nawaz caught him in the deep by Rutherford then took charge, showcasing the form he displayed in the IPL 2025 season. Alongside Athanaze, he kept the scoreboard ticking. Both batters reached their fifties, but Pakistan struck back just in time. Ayub, now with the ball, deceived Athanaze with a flighted delivery, drawing an edge that was safely taken at short West Indies faltered in the middle overs. Roston Chase, unable to rotate strike or find boundaries, retired himself out. 13 Major Records Broken By Shubman Gill During Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

1/13 Shubman Gill's tally of 754 runs helped him break Sunil Gavaskar's record (732 vs West Indies in 1978-79) of most runs for India in a Test series as captain. Only Don Bradman of Australia has scored more runs in a Test series (810) as captain than Gill. (Picture Credit: X/@BCCI) Shubman Gill became the third captain in the world after Don Bradman (1947-48 vs India) and Sunil Gavaskar (1978-79 vs. West Indies) to score four centuries in a Test series. (Picture Credit: X/@BCCI) Shubman Gill scored 430 (269+161) runs in the second Test, which helped him break the record for scoring the most runs in a Test match played away from home. The previous best was Mark Taylor of Australia (426 vs Pakistan in Peshawar, 1998). (Picture Credit: X/@BCCI) Shubman Gill became the second captain in the world after Kohli to score three centuries in the first two Tests. Gill scored 147 in the 1st Test played at Headingley and 269 and 161 in two innings of the second Test at Edgbaston. In his first two Tests as India captain against Australia, Kohli scored 115 and 141 in Adelaide (December 2014) and 147 and 46 in Sydney (January 2015). (Picture Credit: X/@BCCI) He also became only the second captain after Gavaskar to score a century in the first Test and a double century in the second. On his Test captaincy debut against New Zealand in 1976, Gavaskar scored 116 in Auckland, and in the first innings of his second Test as captain, he scored 205 against the West Indies in Mumbai in 1978. (Picture Credit: X/@BCCI) Gill also became only the second player after Allan Border to score 150+ runs in both innings of a Test match. In the 1980 Pakistan-Australia Test played in Lahore, Border scored 150 not out in the first innings and 153 in the second, whereas Gill scored 269 and 161 in two innings of the Birmingham Test. 'Would've Crushed Pakistan But...': Suresh Raina's Huge Claim After India Champions Forfeit WCL Semifinal

Last Updated: India Champions, led by Yuvraj Singh, refused to play Pakistan Champions at the recent World Championship of Legends tournament in England. India Champions boycotting Pakistan Champions during a recent T20 competition that saw participations from several former international cricketers created a storm. The Indian team, captain by Yuvraj Singh, was the defending champions but refused to play Pakistan in a league match followed by the semifinal clash which resulted in them exiting the competition. Pakistan advanced to the title clash where they suffered a crushing defeat to South Africa Champions. Ex-India cricketer Suresh Raina, who was part of the Yuvraj-led side, praised South Africa for their performance while singling out the blistering match-winning century from the legendary AB de Villiers. 'What a knock by @ABdeVilliers17 in the final, absolutely smashed it," Rain posted on X. Raina added that Indian team would've also delivered a similar performance, but the players chose country ahead of the match. 'Had we played, we would've crushed them (Pakistan) too, but we chose our nation above everything else," he added. view comments First Published: August 04, 2025, 11:36 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
