Former Pakistan cricketer expresses sorrow over deadly Kashmir terror attack

Former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez spoke out after the deadly terrorist attack that shocked the nation on Tuesday after gunmen opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam. Twenty-six people were killed and 17 others were injured in the attack which took place in the summer retreat of Pahalgam, which lies about 90 kilometres (55 miles) by road from the key city of Srinagar. Mohammad Hafeez expressed his sorrow over the tragic incident. "Sad and heartbroken." Indian security forces in Kashmir have been carrying out a major manhunt, a day after gunmen opened fire on tourists. India has an estimated 500,000 soldiers permanently deployed in the territory but fighting has eased since Modi's government revoked Kashmir's limited autonomy in 2019. Meanwhile, India has stalled a key water-sharing treaty with neighbouring Pakistan in the wake of the attack. Pakistan said it would convene a rare meeting of its National Security Committee to respond to diplomatic measures imposed by India over a deadly attack in Kashmir.
