Crime stats paint bleak picture
According to the latest report released by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), the streets of Karachi remained dangerous and unpredictable during March 2025, as hundreds were killed and thousands of citizens were deprived of their vehicles, motorcycles, and mobile phones in snatching and theft incidents.
In the month of March alone, Karachiites suffered major financial losses as, 160 vehicles were either snatched or stolen, 4,179 motorcycles were taken away in similar crimes and 1,312 mobile phones were snatched from citizens at gunpoint.
The situation becomes even more alarming when looking at the first three months of 2025. From January to March, the numbers were even more staggering, during which, a total of 537 vehicles were lost, 12,182 motorcycles disappeared from roads and parking lots and 4,300 mobile phones were snatched from citizens.
Similarly, in the same month, one incident of kidnapping for ransom and 9 incidents of extortion were reported. During this time, 42 citizens were also killed during the targeted killings in the city. According to the report, during the same period, 132 people were killed in murder and vandalism incidents in the city, five kidnappings for ransom, and a total of 24 extortion incidents were reported.
These crimes have cost the public billions of rupees. Police officer's claims of a reduction in crime are valid, but the looting of citizens is still ongoing in the city.

Eight Karachiites, including two young brothers, killed in road mishaps
At least eight Karachiites, including two young brothers, have been killed in different road accidents on Sunday. A water tanker hit a motorcycle, leaving two minors dead on Korangi Road near Tooba Mosque in DHA area. The deceased have been identified as Ayan and Tosif, sons of Afzal Shah, Edhi Information Bureau told Business Recorder. People set the tanker on fire following the incident. In another incident, at least six people were killed and 12 others wounded as a speedy bus carrying picnickers from Karachi's Orangi Town area to Keenjhar Lake overturned near Makli. When the vehicle lost control and swerved off the road, it crashed into a ditch beside the road. The rescue services official said all six passengers who died were residents of Orangi Town. They have been identified as Arbab, 20, Basher Khan, 20, Abdul Rauf, 30, Asad, 32, Abrar and Ehsanullah. The killed and injured were brought to Civil Hospital Thatta, where the injured are receiving medical care. The main reason of the collision, according to officials, was overspeeding. Witnesses have said that women and children were also on the bus. Moreover, following the conclusion of the medico-legal procedures, the bodies will be sent to Karachi. Meanwhile heavy machinery was called in to tow away the crushed bus, as rescue officials continued to work at the scene after the tragedy.

Stray bullets kill four children in six weeks
Four children have been killed and several other people have been injured by stray bullets in different neighbourhoods of the metro over the past six weeks, sparking widespread anger among Karachiites. In the latest incident, 11-year-old Zainab was fatally shot while she slept on the rooftop of her home in Mastan Chali. According to police, a stray bullet pierced her chest, killing her on the spot. Imran Afridi, SHO Site A police station, said preliminary investigations suggest the bullet came from celebratory firing in the vicinity. This case is not isolated. In a string of similar tragedies, three other children have fallen victim to stray bullets over the past month and a half. On June 27, three-year-old Furqan sustained critical head injuries after being struck by a stray bullet in Usmanabad, and later died during treatment. Earlier, on June 22, 11-year-old Kristina was killed after a stray bullet hit her in the head in Saudabad, Malir. On June 6, five-year-old Muhammad Yahya died after being struck by a stray bullet inside his house in Bahar Colony, Chakiwara.
