A Switch 2-less Nintendo Direct will stream on March 27
It turns out Nintendo Directs are like buses. You wait ages for one then get two in quick succession. Days before Nintendo fully spills the beans on the Switch 2 during a dedicated showcase on April 2, the company is hosting a surprise Direct on March 27 at 10AM ET. You can watch it above.
The stream will run for around 30 minutes and focus on upcoming Switch games. There won't be any Switch 2 info, but pretty much every game you see here will run on the new console anyway, thanks to backwards compatibility.
Since this isn't billed as an Indie World Direct (those focus on indie games), it's not really clear what we can expect from this one. Nintendo's developers will largely be focused on making Switch 2 games at this point. Still, the Switch has a massive install base — the company has sold more than 150 million of those consoles — so Nintendo probably won't want to leave all those players behind any time soon.
To that end, we can expect a stream of games for the original Switch to keep coming for the foreseeable future. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, for instance, is still slated to hit the Switch sometime this year. Third-party games will still be coming to the Switch as well, including a certain one from Team Cherry that we expect to show up in every single gaming showcase but won't mention here because we don't want to jinx it.

The Switch 2, like its predecessor, runs on a custom Nvidia chip. While the tech last time around was repurposed from smartphones, the processing unit this time around appears to cater much more closely to the needs of a gaming machine, with the inclusion of DLSS, variable refresh rate, and other processing techniques aimed at boosting performance and visual clarity even on moderate specs. Jonathan Joss' Husband Claims Actor Was Killed at 59 in ‘Homophobic' Hate Crime
Jonathan Joss' husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales claimed that the actor's death was the result of a hate crime. UPDATE — 6/2/25 at 4:47 p.m. ET: 'My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire,' read a statement shared via Joss' Facebook on Monday, June 2. 'We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.' Kern de Gonzales alleged that he and Joss were the targets of 'openly homophobic' harassment. While at the site, Kern de Gonzales claimed they found 'the skull' of one of their dogs and its harness which caused 'severe emotional distress.' 'We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw,' the statement read. 'While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us.' Kern de Gonzales claimed that the unnamed man raised a gun and fired it while he and Joss were weaponless. 'Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side,' the post read. 'When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.' Kern de Gonzales added he was by Joss' side when he passed away and he 'told him how much he was loved.' 'To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. The police confirmed that Joss was killed on Sunday, June 1, after an alleged altercation with a neighbor in San Antonio, Texas, according to multiple outlets. Authorities were dispatched to a shooting where they found Joss lying 'near the roadway.' There were 'life saving measures' attempted while waiting for EMS, but Joss was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived. Officers detained their suspect, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, after he initially fled the scene in a vehicle. Ceja has been booked for murder and the investigation is still ongoing, according to TMZ. Nintendo has added almost 12 hours of Tears of the Kingdom to its Music app.
With the game getting an update this week for the launch of the Switch 2, the Nintendo Music app has added 344 tracks from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom including the game's main theme and opening.
