Purdue football grabs another Big Ten rival's defensive back via transfer portal
An'Darius Coffey is a 5-10, 200-pound safety with one year of eligibility remaining.
Coffey played 46 games over four seasons at Memphis before transferring to Northwestern last December.
Purdue football, having already added considerable experience to its secondary since last season, added more Tuesday night.
On3 first reported former Memphis and Northwestern safety An'Darius Coffey signed with the Boilermakers. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Mississippi native played 46 games over four seasons with the Tigers before transferring to Northwestern in December.
Coffey is the third Memphis defensisve back added since the end of last season. Safety Tahj Ra-El joined last December. Cornerback Chalil Cummings committed earlier this month.
Coffey played 10 games as a freshman at Memphis in 2020, but the NCAA gave all athletes a year of eligibility grace due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He sat out the 2021 season with injury, which counted as his redshirt season, then played three more years with the Tigers.
Coffey eventually became a part-time starter at Memphis. He totaled 50 tackles (3.5 for loss) with three pass deflections and two forced fumbles.

Duiring the winter transfer portal, Purdue added cornerbacks Tony Grimes (North Carolina and UNLV), Ryan Turner (Boston College) and Chad Brown (Nevada) and safeties Richard Toney Jr. (TCU) and Crew Wakley (BYU).

Harvard rows through choppy, windy conditions to beat Yale in 158th chapter of ‘The Race'
