Kuki woman dies in crossfire between forces & gunmen
Imphal: A Kuki woman died after being caught in a crossfire between security forces and unidentified gunmen, while a Meitei farmer was injured in firing by unidentified miscreants in two separate locations of Manipur Thursday afternoon.
Manipur Police said at approximately 3pm, one Ningthoujam Biren Singh, a cultivator from Phubala Awang Maning Leikai in Bishnupur district, was shot in his left arm by a miscreant while working in his paddy field. He was initially taken to District Hospital, Bishnupur and was later referred to RIMS Hospital, Imphal. His condition is reported to be stable at present.
In response, security forces launched a search operation in and around Langchingmanbi, Heichanglok, and the western areas of Phubala village in Churachandpur district.
During the course of the operation, security forces came under fire from unidentified miscreants and retaliated accordingly. "During the crossfire, one woman from Langchingmanbi village was found dead with a bullet injury. She was later identified as Hoikholhing, wife of the village chief of Langchingmanbi," police said.
The body is being transported to the district hospital in Churachandpur for necessary legal formalities.

"Combined security forces are continuing search operations to nab the culprits. Every effort is being made to bring those responsible to justice at the earliest," a police officer said.
Police added that security arrangements related to farming activities in the area will be reviewed and sdequate security shall be provided to ensure the safety of farmers in the fields and prevent recurrence of such incident.
The police appealed to the people to maintain peace and not circulate unverified information.

Ahmedabad: A five-member AMC committee completed its investigation into the alleged illegal clinical trials at VS Hospital and submitted a report, implicating top doctors in a multi-crore scam. Between 2021 and 2025, 58 unauthorized trials were conducted on over 500 patients in complete violation of rules, with payments from pharmaceutical companies routed to the accounts of senior doctors, instead of the hospital, said sources citing the report. The companies legally paid Rs 17 to 20 crore, none of which reached the hospital's official accounts. Instead, they were deposited into accounts belonging to Dr Patel, Dr Rana, Dr Shukla, their spouses, and even family HUF accounts. Some payments were allegedly made in cash. "The clinical trials were allegedly conducted using the approval of a private ethical committee instead of seeking clearance from the AMC, the hospital's management board, or the Medical Education Trust." Documents pertaining to these trials were either poorly maintained or deliberately concealed, said sources, drawing from the report. Despite a claim from Dr Patel that Rs 6 crore was deposited into the hospital account, the committee found no supporting documentation.

Shooting at Mohali disco: Club owner used illegal pistol, say cops
1 2 Mohali: The disco owner who shot a man during a late-night altercation at Skull Club in Bestech Mall, Phase 11, used an illegally procured pistol stored in his desk drawer, police said on Friday. The incident, which occurred around 1 am on Thursday, left the victim, Sidharth Delu of Ganganagar, Rajasthan, critically injured. According to police, the root of the confrontation was an accidental brush between Delu's female companion and the accused, club owner Aditya Vij, on the dance floor. "The victim was dancing with his female friends when Aditya's shoulder accidentally hit one of them. This minor incident triggered a heated argument between Delu and Vij," said DSP Harsimran Singh Bal. The verbal spat escalated and spilled outside the disco, where, in a fit of rage, Vij allegedly retrieved a .32 bore pistol from his office drawer and shot Delu in the stomach. Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) ban on road digging after May 31 has turned into a farce as unauthorised excavation continues across the city. NMC's water works department reported digging at at least 18 locations in city, openly defying municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari's directive. Despite clear instructions to all departments and contractors not to undertake any trenching during the monsoon, civic officials failed to enforce the order, leaving citizens to suffer through crumbling roads, traffic snarls, and unsafe commuting conditions. Chaudhari not only barred digging after May 31 but also ordered restoration of previously excavated roads before the onset of rains. He warned of criminal action and penalties against violators. However, multiple agencies — ranging from utility firms to private contractors — carried on excavation work, particularly for cable laying and infrastructure upgrades, many without permission from the NMC's public works department. Nowhere is this failure more evident than in areas under Mangalwari zone. Near Old Katol Naka Square, for instance, the road remains half-cut and dangerously uneven. This shows the casual approach of the NMC's PWD engineers to implement the civic chief's diktat.
