Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To's birthday celebration not only assembled several A-listers who have collaborated with him, but their presence also took fans down memory lane.
To, who turned 70 on April 22, had the event at a restaurant in Hong Kong's Central District.
It was reportedly a star-studded affair akin to an awards ceremony, with Hong Kong actors such as Chow Yun Fat, Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Anthony Wong, as well as singer Sammi Cheng, in attendance.
Chow, 69, and Leung, 62, made a rare appearance together with Leung's wife, actress Carina Lau, in a group photo she posted on Instagram.
The trio starred in Hong Kong broadcaster TVB's police drama Police Cadet '85 (1985), the second instalment of the Police Cadet trilogy series (1984 to 1988). They were former TVB actors before they moved into films.
Chow collaborated with To on movies like The Eighth Happiness (1988), All About Ah Long (1989) and The Fun, The Luck & The Tycoon (1990). Leung worked with To on The Royal Scoundrel (1991) and Lucky Encounter (1992).
The last film the actors co-starred in was action thriller Hard Boiled (1992), directed by Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo.
Lau, 59, also posted a photo of her and Leung with To and his wife Wong Po Ling. 'We have known each other for 40 years and met through TV series The Duke Of Mount Deer ,' Lau wrote in Chinese. 'Happy birthday, Sir To.'

To kicked off his career at TVB's artiste training programme before moving behind the scenes. He was one of the directors of The Duke Of Mount Deer (1984), a TVB drama serial adapted from late Hong Kong writer Louis Cha's serial novel The Deer And The Cauldron (1969 to 1972).
The period drama starred Leung as the illiterate but smart protagonist Wei Xiaobao, a friend of Kangxi Emperor. Lau played Fang Yi, one of Wei's seven wives.
Meanwhile, Anthony Wong posted a photo on Instagram of himself with Hong Kong actors Lam Suet and Roy Cheung, his co-stars in the crime action film The Mission (1999). 'The brothers of The Mission meet again,' Wong, 63, wrote.
The Mission, directed by To, also starred Francis Ng and Simon Yam. The film won Best Director for To and Best Actor for Ng at Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards in 2000. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

SHOWBIZ: American artiste Jared Leto accused of sexual impropriety by 9 women
LOS ANGELES: Nine women have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against actor and musician Jared Leto, describing his behaviour as "predatory, terrifying, and unacceptable," according to a recent investigative report published by Air Mail. The report details accounts spanning years, with multiple women accusing the 53-year-old of inappropriate behaviour, including sexually suggestive communication with minors and unwelcome advances. One woman told Air Mail that in 2006, when she was 16, Leto approached her outside a Los Angeles café. He was sitting with then-19-year-old actress Ashley Olsen at the time. The woman claimed Leto grabbed her arm and initiated a brief conversation before asking for her phone number. "He called a few days later," she recalled. "I don't know if he was on drugs or what… It was the weirdest, grossest voice… [But] for me, it's Jared, you know?" She said Leto invited her to a party at his house, but she declined. Despite her refusal, she claimed he continued calling her late at night. "The conversations turned sexual. He'd ask things like: 'Have you ever had a boyfriend?'" Model Laura La Rue recounted a similar encounter from 2008, when she was also 16. At a private event in Beverly Hills, she said Leto watched her "so intensely" that it made her uncomfortable. Another woman said she began texting with Leto while underage. During visits to his home, she claimed he asked her sexually inappropriate questions. Allie Teilz, a DJ and music producer based in Los Angeles, resurfaced a 2012 Facebook post via Instagram last month in which she wrote: "You're not really in LA until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage… In a kilt.. And a snow hat," Air Mail reported. A representative for Leto has "expressly denied" the various women's accusations reported in Air Mail, including Teilz's, which the representative said were "demonstrably false". Leto himself has yet to comment on the allegations. The frontman of the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for his work in the biographical drama, Dallas Buyers Club. His other acting credits include House of Gucci, Blade Runner 2049, Morbius, and Fight Club.

Tarzzan Of THEBLACKLABEL's New Co-Ed Group Accused Of Cultural Appropriation
When someone romanticises aspects of a particular race, it can sometimes lead to them adopting that race's appearance. While such behaviour often goes unnoticed, it tends to spark controversy, especially when public figures or idols are involved, raising debates around cultural appropriation. On 8th June (Sunday), South Korean entertainment agency THEBLACKLABEL (더블랙레이블) introduced their new co-ed group, 'ALLDAY Project.' However, one member, Tarzzan (타잔), quickly drew attention from netizens due to his Instagram posts, where he is frequently seen wearing braids and adopting aesthetics commonly associated with Black culture. The 'ALLDAY Project' consists of five members: Annie (앤니), Tarzzan (타잔), Bailey (베일리), Woochan (우찬), and Youngseo (영서). Some of the members already have notable recognition. Bailey, for instance, won the Arena Awards in 2019; Annie is known as the granddaughter of the chairman of the Samsung Group; Woochan was originally set to debut with the now-cancelled group Trainee A, and Youngseo was originally set to debut as a member of ILLIT (아일릿). Lee Chae-won (이채원), known by his stage name Tarzzan, began his career as a model, debuting at the 2022 Seoul Fashion Week. He previously worked under YG Entertainment's subsidiary YGKPLUS. He made his first appearance in the music industry through NJZ's (엔제이지) 'Supernatural' music video. Following the news of his debut, Tarzzan sparked debate with his appearance and stage name. Netizens are questioning why the soon-to-debut idol is allowed to maintain his cornrow hairstyle, arguing that it's cultural appropriation. Many also find his 'Tarzzan' stage name offensive, lamenting that it's a mockery towards African-Americans. What was meant to be a promising debut is now facing early backlash. Criticism and controversy have quickly taken over the conversation, and fans fear this might overshadow their official debut on 23rd June (Monday). Some also worry it could hurt the group's future in the long run. What are your thoughts on this? A Clip Of Sharifah Aini's Vocal Prowess Shines A Light On Malaysian City Pop
Subscribe to our FREE Malaysia's music scene is full of talent, and Instagram user Pri (@pridrinks) recently celebrated the late Datuk Sharifah Aini and our local city pop sound. Pri, who's a DJ, shared a clip of Sharifah's song titled 'Kudaku Lari' and noted her vocal prowess, especially her ability to hold long and high notes. He believes it's one of the hardest songs to sing along to and encourages everyone to give it a go. He claimed Sharifah gives American singer-songwriter Bill Withers a run for his money too. In the comments, many people were won over by her voice and the song. Someone noted how minimal audio engineering was used at the time, hinting at the 'nearly pure' sound of Sharifah's singing voice. Sharifah's high note was so good that a user shared that a sample of the song was used in one of Malaysia's famous rap tracks, Too Phat's 'Anak Anyam.' Did anyone attempt to sing it? A user shared that they will attempt it the next time they're singing karaoke and hope they will not pass out. Meanwhile, the other person who attempted to hold the high note admitted that it was a challenge and had to take multiple deep breaths to achieve a fraction of what Sharifah did. However, the comment that stood out the most was shared by a user who played the song by the Barcelona pier. A foreign tourist at the beach heard the song and was surprised to find out it was a Malaysian singer. Pri's post also triggered a fond memory from the late singer's friend. The user shared that the legendary second Biduanita Negara Sharifah performed at their wedding and described the singer as a 'generous and wonderful friend.
