Mboro on club appearances, debut album, and spreading the word
Controversial pastor Paseka 'Mboro' Motsoeneng made a surprise appearance at a Sandton nightclub on Thursday night for the launch of DJ Sobzeen's new album.
Speaking to The Citizen, Mboro said he was there to support the DJ and connect with people.
'Sobzeen is a young and upcoming artist with great potential. Through music, he can support himself while entertaining others,' he said.

Mboro: 'I spread God's word in the club'
Mboro said he regularly makes paid club appearances — but with a spiritual purpose.
'Jesus was not discriminatory. Most people in clubs are broken, and when I come in, I help those who are broken to find peace.
'We don't preach by judging or condemning people. When I talk to them about God's love and dance with them, they find healing,' he said.
New album coming soon
Mboro also revealed that he is working on his debut album, set for release in October.
He said the project will fuse a variety of musical styles.
'It's a mixed-genre album. I'm still working on it, but it will be out in the next two months. We're closing the year on a different level,' he said.
In 2024, Mboro teased his first single, Ngiyaba Slicer — a track inspired by his arrest at the time.
The title loosely translates to 'I slice them', referencing his claim of overcoming those who come against him.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE in October last year, he said he needed to understand the inner workings of the music industry before officially releasing any music.
'It's me who's singing. I need to control the narrative and the direction of the song — what I meant, what I was saying. I have to officially release the song, but first I need to apply my mind and understand how the music industry works.'

Miss Curvylicious finalist Pebetse Kekana champions self-love and confidence at 42
At 42, Pebetse Kekana wears many hats – wife, mother of three and finalist for the Miss Curvylicious SA pageant this October. But it's not about the crown for her. It's about standing up for what she believes in and learning to love herself, flaws and all. Kekana told the African Reporter that she joined the pageant because she felt it was a platform for self-expression, confidence-building and self-improvement. She said pageantry empowers young girls, especially those who are disadvantaged or dealing with teenage pregnancies. Miss Curvylicious SA is commemorating plus-size women around the country, their beauty, fashion sense and leadership. For Kekana, being a finalist is not just an achievement, but proof of the purpose and energy she put into this part of her life. 'This pageant experience has been empowering. It made me look beyond surface expectations and love who I am, not just how I present, but how I lead, communicate, and serve others. 'As a woman, it reminded me that softness and strength need not be mutually exclusive and confidence is not about perfection but about authenticity,' she added. She said she considers beauty to be kindness, self-acceptance and the way someone treats others. Kekana added that confidence is owning your story, your body and your voice without needing permission. But the road wasn't always easy as she battled self-doubt, like many women. 'One of my biggest obstacles is that inner voice that questions whether I'm good enough. This pageant made me face that fear and become a better person because of it,' she said. If she wins Miss Curvylicious SA, Kekana wants to use the platform to promote body confidence, mental health and self-esteem. She also wants to create safe spaces for honest conversations and work with schools and local organisations to promote kindness, diversity and self-esteem. As SA celebrates Women's Month, Kekana concluded with a message to women about self-love and acceptance. 'You are enough, not when you have lost the weight, not when you've met someone else's standards. You are enough today, as you exist. 'It is hard to love and embrace yourself; it is a process. Yet each step you take towards self-love, however small, counts. Be gentle with yourself.'

Sobzeen launches debut album years after ghostwriting hits
The 11-track album, 'iThemba Lam', was released on Friday, 8 August. DJ and producer Sobzeen, born Zakhele Mbuyisa, has finally released his debut album following years of ghostwriting and producing for other artists. The 11-track album, titled iThemba Lam, was released on Friday, 8 August. Speaking to The Citizen, Sobzeen said being a ghostwriter and producer was never part of his plans. 'I never wanted to be a ghostwriter. It just happened because of people's actions. I always wanted to do my own thing. I was making music for my name to be known, to become a major artist,' he said. Sobzeen has worked with numerous upcoming artists and renowned DJs, including DJ Stokie. He said going solo had been both challenging and rewarding. 'When you're used to being under someone's wing and suddenly everything falls on you, it's hard. You have to oversee every decision. Even when releasing a song, you worry about how people will receive it,' he said. His sound blends gospel and Amapiano, a style he calls Hope Amapiano. 'It's a mix of warm melodies with messages of strength and resilience. It's about faith being an anchor during tough times,' Sobzeen said. Released under the new label Solid Sound, iThemba Lam features collaborations with Pale Moloi, Russell Zuma, Youme, Stu, Deep London, Zee_nhle, Casey Ntuli, Dr Thulz, Mr Maker, DJ Stokie, Mashudu, BusiGold, Nele SA, Msongi, Happy Jazzman and Gontse Levati.
