Man arrested for murder of woman in Kerala's Thirunelly; victim's daugher traced
Dileesh, 37, a native of Pilakkavu Thara, was arrested from near an abandoned house inside a plantation close to the house where the woman was murdered.
He was on the terrace of a shuttered room adjacent to a dilapidated house and taken into custody with the help of forest department officials.
He was arrested in connection with the murder of Praveena, 34, a native of Edayoor Kunnu, at her house on Sunday night.
Following Dileesh's arrest, police also found Praveena's missing nine-year-old daughter. It is believed that Dileesh had taken shelter with the child by removing roof tiles and hiding inside the locked house.
Thirunelly Police later shifted the child to a secure location.
Praveena, who had been living separately from her husband, was allegedly in a relationship with Dileesh. It is suspected that a dispute between them led to the murder, which took place around 7.30pm on Sunday.
Praveena's older daughter, aged 14, sustained injuries to her neck and ear and was admitted to Wayanad govt medical college. Police has recorded her statement.

Magadh moves on from Maoist strife after decades of bloodshed
Gaya: Barring isolated incidents such as the burning of road construction machinery and minor extortion demands, the Magadh region, once a stronghold of Maoist insurgents, has witnessed no major violence in recent years. The last significant attack occurred in 2021 on the Gaya-Aurangabad border when nearly a dozen CRPF commandos were killed in Maoist-triggered IED explosions. Four Maoists were also killed in the police's retaliatory operation. For nearly two decades, from the 1980s to the early 2000s, Maoists dominated much of the Magadh division. Govt officials in rural postings and contractors working on infrastructure projects were forced to pay hefty protection money. Almost all block-level officials abandoned their headquarters, living instead in Gaya city or sub-divisional towns such as Sherghati. That situation has now changed dramatically. The region's history is marked by some of the worst massacres in Bihar's insurgency years. In Dalel Chak Baghora (Aurangabad district), 55 men, women and children from a landowning caste were killed. In Bara (Gaya district) and Senari (Jehanabad district), 35 male adults were slain in each incident. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo In retaliation, the Ranvir Sena, a private militia of the Bhumihar community, massacred 55 people, mostly Dalits, in Laxmanpur Bathe (Arwal district) and 35 OBCs and Dalits in Miapur village (Aurangabad district). The Maoists also staged the high-profile Jehanabad jail break, freeing about 400 inmates, including veteran leader Ajai Kanu, and killing nearly a dozen prisoners suspected of being Ranvir Sena supporters. In another attack, they stormed Tekari police station in broad daylight, killing five policemen. Today, most of these areas are peaceful. Arun Kumar Prasad, a retired professor of philosophy, attributes the decline of Maoism to "a mix of administrative, ideological, social and economic factors". He said retaliation by the Ranvir Sena had a significant effect. "Maoists, operating on the principle of minimum risk, retreated when challenged through counter-violence," Prasad added. However, Masoom Aziz Kazmi, a retired IPS officer and former Aurangabad SP during the height of insurgency, said, "The Ranvir Sena was a factor, but not the main one. Improved police mobility due to better roads and an offensive policing strategy paid dividends." Observers also point to a change in political approach. "While the Lalu-Rabri govt appeared to treat Maoists with kid gloves, the Nitish govt adopted a more business-like and at times ruthlessapproach," said one. Anup Kedia, former head of the Central Bihar Chamber of Commerce, said the poor had grown disillusioned with the Maoist leadership. Whatever the reasons, the decline in Maoist activities in Magadh is now unmistakable. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Bankipur ERO sends notice to Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha over alleged dual EPIC IDs
Bankipur's Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) on Sunday issued a notice to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha over allegations that he holds two different EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) numbers. Sinha has been asked to submit his response by 5 pm on Sunday, 14 August. The move came hours after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav claimed at a press conference that Sinha's name appears on two separate voter lists, one in Lakhisarai and another in Bankipur, with different ages and addresses. According to him, the Bankipur record lists Sinha's age as 60, while the Lakhisarai list puts it at 57. He provided the EPIC numbers as IAF3939337 for Lakhisarai and AFS0853341 for Bankipur. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Undo Yadav alleged that Sinha signed documents for both constituencies during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, which resulted in his name appearing in two places. Calling it 'fraud in the voter card as well as in the age,' the RJD leader demanded that an FIR be filed against the Deputy CM. He also accused the Election Commission's SIR exercise in Bihar of being flawed if such duplication could occur. Live Events The controversy follows a separate dispute between Tejashwi Yadav and the Patna ERO, who earlier asked him to submit details of an EPIC card he mentioned during his 2 August press conference. Yadav said he only received the notice on 7 August and had replied the next day, but accused the media of conducting a 'trial' before he could formally respond. 'Now my question is, will the Election Commission send a notice to the Patna and Lakhisarai district administrations regarding the Deputy CM? If action can be taken against us, why not against him?' Yadav asked, accusing the BJP of 'destroying democracy and the Constitution.' On Wednesday, the Patna ERO again reminded Yadav to submit the EPIC details, saying the requested documents had still not been provided. The row originally began when Yadav claimed his own name was missing from the draft voter list released on 1 August, and later alleged that his EPIC number had been changed. Inputs from agencies

Kendrapara self-immolation case: Ex-boyfriend arrested for sexual harassment; had 'at least 60 obscene videos' of victim
Police in Odisha's Kendrapara district have arrested a man for allegedly abetting the suicide and sexually harassing a 19-year-old woman. The young woman's charred body was discovered on the staircase of her home on 6 August. Her father alleged that her former boyfriend had circulated their intimate videos online, pushing her to take her own life. According to police, the relationship had ended before the incident, but the accused began threatening to release private videos. Investigators say he eventually sent them to several people, including the woman's father, leaving her humiliated and distressed. The family claimed that the woman had approached police for help, but no action was taken. Kendrapara Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kataria said the man was booked under BNS sections 296 (obscene act), 75 (sexual harassment), 78 (stalking) and 108 (abetment of suicide), as well as sections 66-E and 67-A of the IT Act. "There are at least 60 obscene videos in the mobile phone of the accused," the SP told reporters. "The accused had sent one of the videos to the mobile phone of the deceased woman's father on July 17. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This new air conditioner cools down a room in just seconds News of the Discovery Undo He has also sent such videos to five-six other persons. He had sent a message to the deceased at 7:34 am on August 6, following which she died. He had also called the victim on August 5." Police are awaiting the post-mortem examination report. Meanwhile, the accused's father has threatened to set himself on fire outside the police station if his son is not released. "I am a poor man because of which justice is denied to me. My son is innocent," he said. The man's mother and sister admitted that he had been in a relationship with the victim, but denied claims of blackmail. They alleged instead that the woman's father had set his daughter on fire in an "honour killing". Police have since interrogated the victim's father and brother, and spoken to her mother, as part of their investigation.
