Arif Habib consortium: Fatima Fertilizer says submited EOI for PIACL
FATIMA submitted the EOI as a member of the consortium led by Arif Habib Corporation Limited (AHCL).
This was announced by FATIMA and AHCL in separate notices to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) today.
As per a notification issued by the PC, FATIMA, AHCL, City Schools (Private) Limited, and Lake City Holdings (Private) Limited, were pre-qualified to participate in the bidding process, said the notice by FATIMA.
'The pre-qualified parties will now proceed to the buy-side due diligence phase, a key step in the competitive and transparent privatisation process of PIACL,' the company said.
The notice further said that the consortium's continued participation in the process will be contingent upon the outcome of the due diligence exercise and subsequent guidance from our Board of Directors.
The government plans to offer PIA's equity stake through a competitive bidding process.
Pakistan has been seeking to sell a 51%-100% stake in the struggling national airline to raise funds and reform cash-draining, state-owned enterprises as envisaged under a $7 billion International Monetary Fund programme.

Privatisation Commission signs financial advisory pact for ZTBL sell-off
The Privatisation Commission (PC) has signed a Financial Advisory Services Agreement (FASA) with a consortium led by Next Capital Limited for the privatisation of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), according to a PC statement on Friday. The consortium brought together a powerhouse of expertise, including Ijaz Ahmed & Associates, Baker Tilly Mehmood Idrees Qamar, Executives Network International, Bridge Public Relations, Savills Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited, and Prima Global Consulting (Pvt.) Limited, the statement added. ZTBL privatisation: PC Board approves appointment of FA 'This initiative reflects the government's unwavering commitment to inviting private sector investment, modernising banking operations, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of state-owned enterprises (SOEs),' the PC said. 'More importantly, it marks a decisive step towards equipping ZTBL with the tools, capital, and agility needed to empower Pakistan's farmers and agribusinesses like never before.' The government maintains that privatisation of the ZTBL will help deliver faster and accessible credit to small farmers and rural communities. 'The privatisation of ZTBL is designed to catalyse investment in Pakistan's agricultural future by combining private sector efficiency with ZTBL's long-standing expertise in agricultural finance for fostering rural prosperity and ensuring farmers have timely access to essential financial resources. 'The signing of this FASA represents the first critical milestone in the privatisation journey. Under the agreement, the financial advisor will conduct sell-side due diligence, carry out market sounding, engage with potential investors, structure the transaction, market it to investors, and assist the Privatisation Commission in a transparent bidding processm, the PC said.

Minister links 5G spectrum auction with resolution of two key issues
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has linked the much-anticipated 5G spectrum auction with the resolution of two key issues including the acquisition of Telenor by the PTCL and ongoing spectrum litigation cases. 'The government plans to auction 5G spectrum by the end of this year, subject to the resolution of pending matters,' said the minister while addressing at an event where Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) and the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, in partnership with, TikTok, announced the official launch of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) feed in Pakistan, reinforcing its commitment to make high-quality educational content more accessible and engaging for all. Pakistan is currently operating on 274 MHz of spectrum, while the upcoming auction is expected to offer double that capacity. Fatima also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve digital infrastructure, including fibre optic expansion, satellite internet, and smartphone affordability. A new policy is being drafted to allow smartphones on easy installments. 'We are working on a comprehensive digital identity system under the Digital Pakistan Act,' she said, adding that internet access in the country has increased by 25 percent. She also stated that inflation and policy rates have declined due to better integration of digital systems. The minister revealed that Pakistan's IT exports rose by $1 billion over the past two years, with 96 percent of freelancers contributing over $700 million. Additionally, 1.2 million laptops were distributed on merit, with another 100,000 to be provided soon. She announced that one million children will be trained under the country's Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy, while 100,000 individuals have already received training via DigiSkills in the last year. She said that seven submarine cables are already connected to Pakistan; with three more expected this year. The world's largest submarine cable will also link with Pakistan by the end of 2025. 'In today's era, technology is becoming a part of our lives. We want to see how we can learn something new using technology,' said the minister, adding that technology should be used in an ethical and positive way. She said that technology played a crucial role in the India-Pakistan war. The new STEM feed on TikTok is a dedicated in-app experience where users can explore a curated stream of high-quality content focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It is designed to spark curiosity, promote critical thinking, and expand digital learning opportunities, especially for students, educators, and young professionals across Pakistan. TikTok is also partnering with leading academic institutions across the country to launch a training programme for teachers, educators and instructors. These trainings are focused on empowering them with the tools, techniques, and best practices, needed to create compelling, informative, and engaging STEM content tailored for short-form video. In addition, TikTok is actively nurturing Pakistan's local STEM creator community, providing training and guidance to increase the volume and quality of STEM content across the platform in English, Urdu and regional languages as well. This effort is aimed at building a self-sustaining educational ecosystem where both formal educators and independent creators contribute to a shared mission: making STEM education fun, inclusive, and discoverable. TikTok has also launched a dedicated hashtag #StemTok, as well as a landing page, where it will feature content created by partners, creators and publishers, providing easy access to local language STEM content in Pakistan. The minister said that this initiative is aligned with our broader vision to use digital platforms to enhance education and skill development in Pakistan. TikTok's STEM feed is an excellent example of how technology can democratize access to knowledge and empower our youth, including aspiring female students, to explore new career pathways in science and technology. Microsoft launches Copilot Mode in Edge, introducing AI-assisted browsing
Microsoft has introduced a new feature to its Edge browser called Copilot Mode, an AI-powered tool designed to assist users while browsing the web. Announced on July 28 through a blog post, Copilot Mode aims to help users by predicting their needs, offering suggestions, and performing tasks on their behalf. Currently in its experimental phase, the feature is opt-in by default for Mac and PC users with access to Copilot. Microsoft is testing the waters to gauge consumer interest, though the company remains optimistic about its potential. Once enabled, Edge users will see a new tab page where they can search, chat, and navigate with AI assistance. With user permission, the AI can offer helpful insights and speed up the research process. Microsoft also plans to enhance Copilot's capabilities, such as enabling voice input for users with limited tech experience or mobility. Copilot will also eventually prompt users to pick up where they left off, offering recommendations based on their activity.
