EA FC 26 Career Mode new features – gameplay overhaul, manager market and deeper simulation

Daily Mirror4 days ago
The latest EA FC 26 Career Mode changes are in, with updates being made to gameplay, scouting, and how developing players works.
From a new style of gameplay to a new live game mode, there are a bunch of big updates and changes coming to EA FC 26 Career Mode

Career Mode is one of the most popular ways to play EA Sports FC, but EA Sports has come under fire from the Career Mode community over the last few years for only getting minor updates, with an online career mode being the biggest request from the community. Well, after speaking with the EA FC 26 developers and getting hands-on with EA FC 26 at the EA HQ in Vancouver, I can confirm an online career mode won't be coming to EA FC 26, but there are a host of other updates being made.

As well as Career Mode, big updates have been confirmed for gameplay and Clubs in EA FC 26, while we should learn about new Ultimate Team features very soon.

Every new feature for EA FC 26 Career Mode
These are 26 changes coming to Career Mode in EA FC 26.
Authentic gameplay
Firstly, and the biggest change of all, is that the gameplay is being completely overhauled for EA FC 26 Career Mode, and I'm sure this is an update that will be seen as fantastic for the Career Mode Community. In EA FC 26, gameplay is being split into two – competitive gameplay and authentic gameplay.
Authentic gameplay applies to career mode, meaning the game will be a slower-paced, more true-to-life version of football. This helps bring more realism to the game, something which is needed in Career Mode.
Manager Live
A new Manager Live mode is coming to the game, where players can take on challenges from the real world. From winning the league to making the average age of your squad 23 or younger, there's a host of different challenges available in Manager Live.
Manager Live reflects the changing world of football across the season, with challenges either short-term or long-term, with some taking up to three seasons to complete. EA is aiming to release 150 challenges weekly for players to complete in Manager Live, with rewards on offer for completing these challenges. Some of the rewards include retro kits, which you can use for your respective team in Manager Career.
Manager Live will see a Road to Glory mode introduced in Manager Career. Road to glory is one of the most popular ways to play Career Mode, so you can now pick up rewards for playing how you usually would. Big win!

Manager Market
A manager market is also coming to EA FC 26. Using the manager market, you can see every manager's job security, what objectives they need to achieve, and their tactics. Doing this also helps if you're looking for a job, as you can see what jobs may be available soon, the job expectations, and the likelihood that you will be hired.
Managers can be fired, retire, or leave clubs in Manager Career, meaning we can expect to see a lot more managerial changes in EA FC 26. Caretaker managers are being introduced as well, so if a manager leaves for whatever reason, a caretaker will become manager, and if they do well, they can stay at the club as the permanent manager.
Each manager will have a profile that includes a rating and tactical vision. For example, if Diego Simeone left Atletico Madrid, the club will look for a new manager of a similar rating and tactical vision. If no managers with the same vision are available, the club will hire someone else, and potentially change its tactics and club philosophy for good.

You can edit the names and details of managers you aren't controlling. There won't be a free agents section for managers in EA FC 26 due to licensing issues, so you may need to try and find Jurgen Klopp's doppelganger and rename him if you want to add him to the game.
Unexpected events
Another new feature called Unexpected Events is coming to EA FC 26, and this may be my favourite new addition. There are set to be about 40 Unexpected Events at launch, with these throwing challenges the manager's way out of the blue.
Some of the examples of Unexpected Events include injuries on international duty, a chairman wanting to get involved in tactics and transfers, and a Tottenham-esque Lasagne-gate, where a chunk of the squad gets food poisoning. It's about how you react and overcome these challenges.

Icons and Heroes
Icons and Heroes are coming to Manager Career Mode. They were introduced in EA FC 25 for Player Career Mode, but now, as rewards from Manager Live challenges, you can earn Icons and Heroes as playable players for your Manager Career.
They are delivered across the season, with up to 200 icons and heroes available across the 10 FC Seasons. When you unlock these Icons and Heroes, they will be signed with their prime rating and at their prime age.
Deeper stats and smarter AI
You can now view deeper stats in EA FC 26, so for the first time, we can view all of the player and team stats from other leagues. This includes top goalscorers, assists, clean sheets and even average rating. The new deeper stats feature will change how scouting works. Select up to five leagues for deeper simulation, and then view these players' detailed stats to help with scouting. You can even scout directly from the deeper stats page.

AI transfers will be smarter in EA FC 26. Say, for example, Liverpool want to sign a right-back in the transfer market. Well, they won't go and sign five of them in one window now, like they sometimes did in EA FC 25.
Archetypes
Archetypes are coming to FC 26 Player Career Mode, replacing the current player progression system. Archetypes define how your player grows in-game, with this also replacing the skill tree in Clubs.
There are 13 archetypes available from launch. These are:

Magician
Finisher
Target
Recyclier
Maestro
Creator
Spark
Progressor
Boss
Engine
Marauder
Shot Stopper
Sweeper Keeper
How you start a Player Career Mode is changing. Personality types remain, but when you start the game you will choose your origin story, physical attributes, club, archetype and position. Some new origin stories are also being introduced, including Rising Star and Hand of God (which is for goalkeepers).
And everything else
Be a Goalkeeper has been overhauled, meaning there are more controls and commands available to use if you are a goalkeeper in Player Career Mode. A few more menu shortcuts have been added to improve the quality of life for players in-game, while player roles can now be changed in Manager Career Mode without influencing the practical vision.
Youth tournaments can now be played in different stadiums in different sizes, adding a bit of variety and more importance to bigger games, and after being added in EA FC 25, more Live Start Points will be added in EA FC 26.
Lastly, Online Career Mode will not be coming in FC 26. We were told by EA Sports Line Producer Andreas Wilsdorf that it's something that's always being brainstormed in the background, but EA didn't consider it for EA FC 26.

EA FC 26 Ultimate Team new features – new game modes, repeatable Evolutions and Rivals overhaul

EA Sports has gone all out with the new additions coming to Ultimate Team in EA FC 26. Ultimate Team is the biggest game mode in EA Sports FC, and some massive changes are coming in EA FC 26. ‌ On a recent trip to the EA Sports HQ in Vancouver, I was able to not only play EA FC 26 for the first time, but also find out all there is to know about EA FC 26 Career Mode changes, Clubs changes, and the biggest of them all, Ultimate Team. EA has put big emphasis on listening to community feedback in EA FC 26, and based on the changes coming to EA FC 26 Ultimate Team, this is reflected. ‌ From new gameplay, Evolutions updates and improved Division Rivals, these are 30 changes coming to Ultimate Team in FC 26. ‌ EA FC 26 Ultimate Team changes These are all the changes coming to Ultimate Team in EA FC 26. EA has added a few new ways to play Ultimate Team while also upgrading other features, so all in all, these changes are very exciting. Competitive gameplay –the return of pace Gameplay will be faster in Ultimate Team thanks to the new competitive gameplay. In EA FC 26, there will be two types of gameplay, competitive and authentic. While Authentic is a slower version of the game, more suited for Career Mode, Competitive is much faster, giving the gameplay a more arcade-like feel. This suits Ultimate Team perfectly. Live events and tournaments Live events and tournaments will be a big focus in EA FC 26. These new tournaments are high-stakes knockout events where you can play up to four rounds, ending with an epic final. To make matchmaking fair, you'll always play someone who's at the same round as you. ‌ There will be exclusive rewards available for tournaments, while EA will keep things fresh by having special squad requirements and objectives. Each tournament will have a limited number of entries, and once you win the tournament, you can't enter again. Another new live event coming to FC 26 Ultimate Team is the Gauntlet. A series-based event where you play up to five games, but every game you must use a new squad, with no player able to be used twice. The aim is to win as many games as you can to earn better rewards. Other live events will be available but locked, and you can only unlock entry to these by completing certain objectives. These events are intended for elite competition, so think of it as the top four get Champions League spots in the Premier League. Only the best of the best will qualify. ‌ At the end of each FC Season, more live events will be released that are intended to "bring the community together", whatever that means. FUT Champs overhaul FUT Champs is being overhauled in EA FC 26. Towards the end of EA FC 25, the FUT Champs play-offs became a bit of a chore, but this is no more, with play-offs being removed completely. A new FUT Champions competition will also be released, called FUT Champs Challengers. This will be released along with the regular FUT Champs, with players in Divisions 10 to Division 6 in Rivals qualifying for FUT Champs Challengers. This simply allows players in lower divisions to still have the chance to compete in FUT Champs. ‌ Of course, the rewards won't be as good as the main event, so you can't drop down from Division 1 to Division 6 in the hope of easing your way to 15-0 and amazing rewards. FUT Champs is also getting a visual update in EA FC 26, so expect to see a new-look menu and layout. Make Rivals great again With no more FUT Champs Play-Offs, Rivals is now more important than ever before to qualify, and some big changes are being made. You can now get win streak bonuses in Rivals, where you can climb up to two stages and earn double Rivals points. Your opponent will also be told if you are on a win streak, vice versa. There are limited checkpoints in Rivals. These can act as a cushion and tell you how many games you can afford to lose before you are threatened with relegation. ‌ It got frustrating if you were on a losing streak in Rivals in EA FC 25, because you could play five games and get nothing to show for it. This is changing in EA FC 26 thanks to a new feature called Bounties. The bounty system will see players given challenges to earn extra Rivals points, meaning even if you lose, you can still get points towards your weekly total. Some examples of Bounties are Clean Sheet, so keep a clean sheet, Domination, which is win by two goals or more, First Strike, which is score first, Scoring Streak, which is score two goals in a row, and Last Strike, which means score last. These are good because, say you are losing 4-0 and you score in the 90th minute to make it 4-1, you may have lost, but you will still earn Rivals points. Some of the rewards for competing bounties are coins, packs, Rivals stage skips and Rivals weekly rewards points. Rivals points earned from Bounties can be added to your total tally, so if you win a game of Rivals and also complete a bounty for two Rivals points, you would get five Rivals points from one game. ‌ When you are playing for a bounty, your opponent is also playing for the exact same one, so a cool bit of extra competition is added to the game. Winners don't quit, and quitters don't win If a player quits a game while drawing, a win will be awarded if the game is either in the second half, a red card has been handed out, or a penalty has been given. EA has also updated this, so even if a player quits through the menus or by turning their console or PC off, the win will still be given. Players who quit games in Rush repeatedly will be given matchmaking timeouts. Timeouts get longer and longer if the player continuously quits games ‌ Evolutions are better than ever Evolutions have been updated for EA FC 26, with the ability to evolve goalkeepers now included. But, even though you can play as a goalkeeper in Clubs Rush, you can't in Ultimate Team. Repeatable Evolutions are coming to EA FC 26, meaning you can use the same Evolution on multiple players rather than just as a one-off. And visually, you can now stack Evolution upgrades. This means, if you completed a Future Stars-themed Evolution and then a Centurions Evolution after, rather than losing the past cosmetic design, the two will be combined and stacked. ‌ And everything else There's a new competitive camera being added to Ultimate Team, which can only be used in Ultimate Team. EA is also pushing a less-is-more philosophy with content in FC 26. This doesn't mean fewer promos, but instead, the upgrades each week will be smaller, meaning the power curve will increase more slowly. EA discussed with us the potential of adding dynamic images to cards in Ultimate Team, and even though they confirmed it wasn't discussed for EA FC 26, they didn't deny that it could happen in the future. It was also confirmed that the Icon player item included in the FC 26 Ultimate Edition pre-order bonuses is a pack, not a player pick, while EA has confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alex Morgan, and Toni Kroos are all new Icons for FC 26, with more set to be announced soon. To get players into games quicker, 3D team sheets have been removed, with 2D team sheets returning, and even though crossplay has been around for a while now, the transfer market will not be shared between console and PC in FC 26, which I think is a good thing. Lastly, FUT Moments will still be in EA FC 26. Although it's not a competitive game mode, EA sees it as the perfect way to introduce new players to the game who are playing and learning for the first time.

Battlefield 6 beta isn't for two days but 9,000 people are already in the app

Thousands of Battlefield 6 fans have pre-loaded the beta and seem to be spending a lot of time tinkering with the settings. Given how much of a letdown Battlefield 2042 wound up being, EA and the many studios tasked with making Battlefield 6 need to do a lot to win back fans' favour. So far though, Battlefield 6 is making a good first impression, with its multiplayer gameplay reveal and promises of no wacky crossover skins. Even Call Of Duty fans seem eager to jump ship. It's far too early to tell if Battlefield 6 will achieve EA's very lofty player count targets, but at the very least the upcoming beta has captured the attention of over 9,000 people on PC. We don't just mean over 9,000 people have signed up to participate in the beta; we mean over 9,000 people opened the app and apparently just sat there waiting for it to start. The first beta doesn't begin until August 7, for those with early access, and then August 9 for everyone else, but pre-loads did go live Monday afternoon, on August 4. According to player data from SteamDB, it didn't take long for 9,463 people to get the beta installed in preparation, though the fact that SteamDB even has this data means thousands of people chose to open the beta, rather than just install it and leave it, even though it doesn't do anything yet. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Well, that's not entirely accurate. You can adjust the beta's settings and as someone has shared on the Battlefield subreddit, there's a lot for you to tinker with, including graphics settings, aiming sensitivity, and pre-sets for controllers and keyboards. Even at time of writing, there's still about 3,800 people in the beta, meaning either new players have jumped in to sort out their settings after the early adopters left, or players are keeping the beta open in excited anticipation. More Trending Unfortunately, there's no way to check if anything similar is happening with the versions of the beta on the Epic Games Store or EA's own PC app, or the console versions on PlayStation 5 and Xbox. EA also hasn't said anything about how many sign-ups the beta has received, although it will most likely brag about player counts once the beta goes live… assuming those thousands of excited fans stick around. Despite all the positive buzz so far, the beta itself will be the first real indicator for how popular Battlefield 6 will be. There are already plans for a second open beta from August 14 to August 17 and, if the first one's a hit, word of mouth could make the second even more popular.
