TikTok Adds AI Avatar Stickers, Expanding its AI Toolset
This story was originally published on Social Media Today. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Social Media Today newsletter. TikTok's added a new AI-generated sticker option, which enables you to combine your avatar with an emoji to come up with unique combinations. As you can see in this example, posted by Jonah Manzano, the new option enables you to combine your avatar, which you can also create in the app, with a selection of emojis. You can then use that combined sticker in the app: Which is an interesting application within TikTok's broader integration of AI tools, and with parent company ByteDance investing billions into AI development, you can bet that more and more AI options will be coming to the app very soon. As they are in all apps, but TikTok's plans on this front are less known, because it's primarily focused on China, and building AI tools for the local version of the app, called Douyin. But if you ever want to get an idea of where TikTok is headed, you can look to Douyin. The app reportedly has over 766 million active users, and has become a key social and entertainment platform among Chinese users. And in terms of AI features, that TikTok doesn't have (at least not to the same degree) Douyin has the following: The app composer now includes various AI editing tools, including creative effects, image generation, and more. It also has a text-to-video tool, which enables the creation of short clips in-stream (it also has a separate app called 'Jimeng' for this) There are also various AI assistants in the app, with the latest addition being a chatbot that connects to ByteDance's ChatGPT-like Doubao There's also a Yelp-like AI assistant that recommends restaurants and provides food reviews These are some of the AI elements that are not available on TikTok as yet, which shines a light on the options that could be coming to TikTok soon, building out its AI capacity. In addition, Douyin's also developing improved live-stream avatars which are designed to mimic creators' personalities and habits. TikTok has a form of AI avatars already, but this new wave of AI bots will be more customized and aligned to each creator, enabling influencers to stream to their audience 24/7, Douyin says. At the same time, Douyin is also much more focused on shopping, and has become a leading player in Chinese eCommerce. It's also expanded into food delivery, which is another area that TikTok may look to as it seeks to build out its own shopping elements. On that front, Douyin recently began testing 'Douyin Hourly Delivery,' which will use location services to ensure rapid deliveries to consumers. So, again, this gives you some idea of the AI integrations that are likely coming to TikTok, and the other avenues that it could take to drive more AI usage, while also building out its existing functionality. So on a broader scale, AI-generated emoji stickers are only a small thing, but they add another tool to the platform's expanding AI capacity, which is set to become even more significant over time. Which also means more AI slop, but that's probably inevitable either way. Does Olive Garden offer 25-cent wine samples? Yes, the rumors are true
What's better than free breadsticks? Breadsticks with free (or heavily discounted) wine, of course. Over the past week, rumors have circulated online that Olive Garden offers 25-cent wine samples to guests ages 21 and older. Some content creators have shared their experiences at their local Olive Garden locations, but understandably, some are skeptical. "I haven't been inside of Olive Garden for years because I don't like the quality of their food, but okay, Olive Garden did something with this 25-cent wine tasting. I was able to taste all the wine I was interested in," a content creator who goes by Kay's KK said in a recent TikTok video. In her video, she shows that she tried six wine samples for a total of about $1.60. So what's the deal – does Olive Garden offer wine for just a quarter? Does Olive Garden offer 25-cent wine samples? It's complicated. Olive Garden does offer complimentary 1-ounce samples of wine to guests 21 and up with their meal. In some states, this sample is free. But in other states, where free alcohol samples are not permitted, these start at 25 cents, Jaime Bunker, Olive Garden senior vice president of marketing, told USA TODAY. The samples aren't a full glass, though. In comparison to the 1-ounce sample, a traditional glass of wine is 5 ounces, according to New York-based wine retailer Millesima. How many 25-cent wine samples is one guest limited to? Guests are welcome to a "few" wine samples with their meal, Bunker said. She did not specify the exact number of samples a guest is limited to. TNT Sports Brazil's TikTok Playbook: Scaling Digital Performance
How this major player redefined their TikTok strategy for success What if the roar of the crowd is no longer the most powerful sound in sports? In the age of TikTok, a new, more dynamic currency is emerging, forever changing how fans connect with the game. While reach and awareness remain foundational, publishers are now realizing that true victory lies in genuine connections, viral search visibility, and a relentless stream of fresh content. This shift presented a unique challenge for TNT Sports Brazil (@tntsportsbr). Despite boasting one of the largest TikTok followings among sports publishers in the country, their impressive fan base wasn't translating into significant video views. They had the audience, but they needed to unlock its full potential. So, TNT Sports decided it was time to move beyond mere reach and implement a bold new strategy designed to deliver deeper, sustained engagement and create meaningful impact through increased visibility. In early January 2025, TNT Sports introduced a series of platform-first adjustments centered on six key pillars: frequency, discoverability, timeliness, creativity, personality, and content longevity. Let's take a look at how they pivoted to better align with the way modern audiences discover, consume and engage with sports content. 1. Scaled Up Their Posts Within a week, TNT Sports more than doubled its posting volume, creating more touchpoints with fans and improving their chances of capturing attention. This shift allowed for increased experimentation and positioned the brand to respond quickly to emerging trends. For publishers, this means prioritizing volume and agility over rigid content calendars. Embracing a test-and-learn approach is the easiest way to scale up your posting cadence and deliver content that truly resonates. 2. Redefined Discovery Through SEO With TikTok rapidly becoming a go-to search engine, discoverability has shifted from a creative nice-to-have to a core pillar of content strategy. Recognizing this, the team evolved beyond conventional hashtagging. They began focusing on intent-based search behavior — making captions clear and concise to match how the TikTok community actively looks for content. Hashtags, in turn, were streamlined for maximum relevance and broader discoverability. 3. Amplified The Moment Internal data revealed a significant lift in search traffic for videos posted within 30 minutes of a major event. TNT Sports responded by prioritizing real-time posting and minimizing the lag between live moments and content uploads. In one example, a Neymar goal was posted to TikTok within nine minutes of the play itself — delivering higher visibility and virality. For publishers aiming to boost views, capturing and posting content when a moment is at its peak, isn't just an advantage — it's a fundamental strategy for maximizing reach and engagement. 4. Experimented With Content Formats Forget repurposing traditional assets — to truly meet TikTok's rapid pace and audience expectations, format experimentation is essential. With this in mind, TNT Sports re-edited content from their original programming and actively experimented with overlays, carousels, and shorter cutdowns, all designed for mobile-first, attention-driven viewing. This approach allowed the team to increase their posting cadence and ensure all content felt relevant and resonant. 5. Led With Personality Audiences respond to people, not just logos. Featuring recognizable talent in your content fosters trust and authenticity, ultimately creating a stronger bond with your viewership. TNT Sports exemplified this by integrating their on-air personalities and analysts directly into TikTok content. This strategy added depth, context, and relatability, which in turn helped build loyalty and made the brand's presence feel more conversational and genuinely connected. 6. Leveraged TikTok Tools Publishers can significantly extend the impact their content has by strategically leveraging TikTok's native tools. For example, 'pinned posts' can help transform high-performing videos into ongoing growth drivers. TNT Sports utilized this by identifying their highest-performing videos through analytics and pinning these videos to their profile, essentially curating a greatest-hits collection. This turned momentary wins into lasting entry points for new viewers, maximizing discoverability and converting casual browsers into loyal followers. TNT Sports' dynamic strategy offers a powerful blueprint for navigating the platform's ever-evolving landscape. Here are the key lessons from their successful story: As TikTok continues to redefine the modern sports fan experience, TNT Sports powerfully demonstrates what's possible when a publisher boldly evolves with the platform, transforming strategic insights into undeniable, measurable growth.
