Victor Osimhen 'dreams' of a Premier League move as Man United 'receive huge boost in bid for player-plus-cash deal for £63m-rated Napoli star'

Daily Maila day ago

Victor Osimhen 's future looks set to be a hot topic for the second summer in a row, and now Manchester United look to be taking a serious spot in the race for his services, according to a new report.
Osimhen looked to be close to joining Al-Hilal from Napoli after spending the season on loan with Galatasaray and pipping Jose Mourinho 's Fenerbahce side to the Super Lig crown.
However reports suggest that the move to the Saudi Pro League is now off, leaving him once again back to square one seemingly.
Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy have reported that while Osimhen rejected Al-Hilal's approach, his dream is to play in the Premier League, where Man United are being linked with his services.
Gazzetta states that there is a strong interest from the Red Devils, who are in need of strengthening up front in order to work their way back up the table next season following a 15th place finish.
The one stumbling block, especially considering United's financial situation at present, is the fact that Napoli are thought to be standing relatively firm on their £63.4million (€75m) release clause.
United would be willing to use Joshua Zirkzee (right) as a makeweight in a potential transfer
However United are thought to be looking to work out a deal to send players plus cash for the Nigerian, with Joshua Zirkzee considered a likely contender.
While things have not quite gone to plan for him in England, he maintains a good reputation in Italy, having starred for Bologna before trading Serie A for the Premier League.
Napoli and United were also in discussions for a move for Alejandro Garnacho last summer, with his future at Old Trafford seemingly over as per reports.
A move for Osimhen, in addition to the acquisition of Matheus Cunha and expected arrival of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, would represent a brilliant window for United.
'Victor is, for me, the best striker in the world,' said Eric Chelle, Osimhen's manager at international level, told BBC.
'For him it is difficult to come for this game because he played a season with a lot of pressure.
'The reality is there is a transfer window. During this time, a player like him is not focused at 100 per cent.
'Maybe a club like Manchester United. Or maybe Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid. So he needs to be focused on that.'

Marseille reach ‘agreement in principle' to sign England midfielder Angel Gomes

The former Manchester United youngster is set to become a free agent when his contract with another French side in Lille expires at the end of this month. The 24-year-old could also be joined by Burnley's CJ Egan-Riley at the Stade Velodrome after the Clarets confirmed the defender had rejected the offer of a new deal at Turf Moor. His performances have since earned him four England caps. He had been linked with West Ham and Tottenham but has opted for Marseille, where he will link up with another former United player in Mason Greenwood. A statement from Marseille read: 'Olympique de Marseille announces that it has reached an agreement in principle with Angel Gomes regarding the arrival of the English international midfielder at the club.' Egan-Riley, who is a graduate of Manchester City's youth programme, impressed as Burnley secured promotion back to the Premier League last season but was also out of contract this summer. The Lancashire side were keen for the 22-year-old to stay but have accepted he wishes to move on. They confirmed the centre-back's departure in a statement which referred to him joining an unnamed Ligue 1 club. It has been widely claimed that is Marseille. The statement added: 'Burnley Football Club can confirm that it has been informed by the representatives of CJ Egan-Riley that the England U21 international defender has now formally rejected the club's offer of a significant long-term contract with the club. 'Despite the club's commitment to securing CJ's long-term future and the substantial investment offered, CJ has made the decision to pursue an opportunity in France.'

Under-21 games in the Premier League 2 can now be live streamed even if they clash with fixtures on Sky Sports or TNT Sports. Official club channels are ready to "take the lead" in showing the action. But there are rumours of a TV deal in the coming years should viewing figures be significant. Man United agree £1m deal for highly rated 16-year-old Southampton defender Harley Emsden-James

Manchester United have agreed a £1m deal for 16-year-old Harley Emsden-James from Southampton. United will also pay add-ons for the defender while Saints have a 20 per cent sell on. Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea were among the clubs interested in signing the teenager last summer. The acquisition of Emsden-James is the latest example of United's efforts to poach highly rated talent from other Premier League sides. His arrival follows the signings of Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven from Arsenal last season, who were both handed first-team minutes during the campaign. Emsden-James got his first taste of Under 18s football during the 2024-25 season, making two appearances despite being only 15-years-old. He is likely to be part of the Red Devils' U18s squad next term. Given he will not turn 17 until March 2026, it is unlikely he will be handed regular minutes at U21 level. Meanwhile, in what is expected to be a busy summer for United, the club are continuing talks for Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo after last week's opening offer of £55million was rejected. The Red Devils were dealt a blow last weekend when reports emerged that Tottenham were entering the race for the 25-year-old. Mbeumo is seen as a key target for United, who are looking to improve their lacklustre squad after a dreadful campaign. The Red Devils scored just 44 goals in the Premier League, the second lowest of any non-relegated side.
