Tables and chairs obstructing a pedestrian walkway in front of a restaurant at Jalan Bendahara in Klang.
Five compounds were issued by Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) to businesses at Jalan Bendahara off Jalan Sungai Jati yesterday.
MBDK Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said three were for cleanliness (RM1,000 each) and two (RM250 each) for using back lanes as a kitchen as well as placing tables and chairs on the five-foot way.
She said MBDK was acting on complaints from several residents associations and Rukun Tetangga on placement of furniture on walkways hindering pedestrians.
'Complaints were also received from neighbouring businesses,' she said.
'Most of the complaints are about restaurants 'reserving' council parking bays in front and near their premises.
'These business operators also obstruct the five-foot way,' she added.
An optical shop owner, who did not want to be named, said that apart from tables and chairs, restaurant operators also placed gas tanks on the road and used the back lanes for cooking and washing.
MBDK enforcement personnel checking the back lane where a restaurant has extended its kitchen.
Norfiza said 95 operations had been carried out from January to July 22 where 161 eateries were inspected and 155 compounds issued for obstruction of pedestrian walkways and using the back lanes as a kitchen.
Among the areas MBDK had carried out operations were Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Pusat Bandar Klang and Bandar Bukit Raja, she said.
She added that enforcement was carried out under the Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws (MPK) 2007 which covered aspects such as cleanliness, physical structure of the premises, waste disposal and fire safety.
'MBDK also took action under Section 46(1)(d) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, which prohibits obstruction in streets or public spaces,' said Norfiza.

‘Datuk' dupes trader out of RM100k in Thai cattle scam

JOHOR BARU: A trader lost about RM100,000 after being lured to invest in a cattle rearing project in Thailand by a 'Datuk' businessman. Mazli Hamzah, 37, who has been selling honey for 12 years, said he got to know the man last year during a business networking event. 'In March this year, he called me and asked to meet as he was interested in helping to grow my business, including finding ways to market my product overseas. 'We met frequently after that. Then, he told me about an opportunity to invest in a cattle rearing farm in Thailand. The cows are meant for Hari Raya Haji,' he told reporters yesterday. Mazli said he was initially sceptical about the venture but the 'Datuk', who is in his 40s, brought him to see someone at Menara Tabung Haji here. The two men talked about the cattle rearing project and Mazlin eventually became convinced that the business opportunity was a legitimate deal. 'Earlier this month, I handed the businessman more than RM100,000. Everything was done verbally. 'However, he did provide me with receipt after I gave him the money to invest,' he said. Mazli said his subsequent calls and WhatsApp messages to the 'businessman' went unanswered when he tried to find out about the outcome of his investment. 'I then went to his restaurant in Bandar Dato Onn here and saw him. I called his mobile phone, which he glanced at but he did not answer my call. 'As I walked towards him, he saw me and immediately left his restaurant,' he said. Mazli added that he had since lodged a police report. It is learnt that the businessman was fined RM200,000 by a Sessions Court last year for using a fake Datuk title.

Rep: Nation's first RC powerboat pond being planned in Machan

Allan Siden Gramong SIBU (July 29): The first remote-control (RC) powerboat pond in the country is being planned in Machan, said Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong. According to him, his side is now in the process of surveying land for the RM700,000 project site, adding that the old 'tamu' (farmers and jungle produce market) area could be it. 'We are also still finding a consultant for this project as it is the first of its kind in the country. 'The main purpose of building the pond is for the convenience of RC powerboat racers and enthusiasts. 'We are aware that they have to find unused ponds for their activities. 'Besides that, I believe the new pond would enliven the old 'tamu' area with the presence of those involved in RC power-boating,' he told reporters when met after officiating at the closing of the Sibu International Remote Control Powerboat Race River Challenge 2025 here last Sunday. Allan added that the project would funded under the Machan state constituency's Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) grant. The assemblyman also planned to have trading stalls and entertainment at the pond. 'We hope this plan could materialise in two years' time. 'Still, this also depends on the implementing agency,' he pointed out. Allan Siden Gramong lead Machan RC powerboats
