Indore: Counterfeit notes to the value of Rs 15.41 lakh were seized in Dewas on Monday and five members of a gang were arrested. During the operation, currency printing machines, half-printed notes and two motorcycles were also recovered.
The police received intelligence about two persons circulating fake currency. Under the directives of SP Puneet Gehlod, two special teams were formed. The teams caught Sachin Naagar and Shubham Verma, confiscating Rs 1.96 lakh in counterfeit notes and a bike from their possession.
Interrogation of the two led police to Rajkumar Malviya, who was allegedly printing fake notes at his home in Sonkatch. A subsequent search of his residence resulted in the arrest of Malviya and his accomplice, Sunil Patil.
Authorities recovered Rs 13.25 lakh in counterfeit Rs 500 notes along with note-printing equipment from their hideout.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Shakti Singh Chawda. In total, five accused were caught, and a cache of equipment including a laptop, printer, scanning machine, half-printed notes and two motorcycles was seized, senior police officials said.
Police investigations revealed the plan to manufacture fake currency was hatched while main accused Sunil Patil (38) of Burhanpur and Rajkumar Malviya (30) of Sonkatch were in Bhairugarh Jail. Upon their release, the duo activated their racket, leading to the production and distribution of counterfeit notes.

Midhun's bail plea adjourned in liquor case

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing on Rajampet MP PV Midhun Reddy's anticipatory bail plea in the liquor policy case to Wednesday after extensive arguments. Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, representing the CID, alleged that Midhun Reddy played a crucial role in the liquor policy's formulation and execution. He claimed liquor orders were selectively awarded to companies that paid kickbacks, leading to a Rs 3,500 crore loss. Statements from accused and witnesses reportedly support these claims. Conversely, Midhun Reddy's counsel, senior advocate T Niranjan Reddy, argued that the MP was falsely implicated due to political vendetta and pointed out inconsistencies in the CID's investigation. He claimed key accused were being shielded and cited past rulings protecting other leaders, demanding similar protection for Midhun Reddy.

Andhra irrigation dept official in ACB net for taking bribe

ONGOLE: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday caught K Srinivasa Rao, a Senior Assistant at the Markapur Irrigation (Special Division) Office, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from contractor Y Srinivasa Reddy. The bribe was allegedly demanded for processing pending contractual bills. According to ACB officials, the complainant had completed irrigation works and requested Rao to forward his bills for approval. However, Rao allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 to move the files. When the contractor refused, the officer withheld the bills, insisting on the bribe. Fed up, Reddy lodged a complaint with the Ongole ACB. Following verification, ACB officials laid a trap. The contractor handed over the bribe to Rao in his office, where the ACB team apprehended him and seized the cash. A chemical test confirmed bribe traces on the accused, who was later arrested and will be produced before the ACB court in Nellore.
