Chhattisgarh: 4 Maoists killed in Bijapur encounter; security forces recover arms and ammunition
The operation, launched by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) on July 26, was based on specific intelligence inputs regarding Maoist activity near the Basaguda and Gangaloor police station limits in the district's south-western corridor.
The gunfight began in the evening and continued intermittently through the night. Among the deceased were two women cadres, all affiliated with the South Sub Zonal Bureau of the banned CPI (Maoist), said the official.
The slain insurgents were identified as Hunga (ACM, Platoon 10), Lakkhe (ACM, Platoon 30), Bhime (ACM), and Nihal alias Rahul, a party member and bodyguard to the Bureau Communication Head.
Collectively, they carried a bounty of Rs 17 lakh.
Security personnel recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from the site, including one SLR rifle, one INSAS rifle, one .303 rifle, a 12 bore gun, a BGL launcher, a single-shot 315 bore rifle, and an AK-47.
In addition, multiple magazines, live rounds, grenades, BGL cells, Maoist literature, and daily-use items were seized.
Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P. confirmed that the operation was part of an intensified anti-LWE campaign in the region.
He noted that 425 hardcore Maoists have been neutralised between January 2024 and July 2025, attributing the success to strategic planning, operational courage, and community support.
Despite challenging monsoon conditions -- marked by rugged terrain, dense foliage, and persistent rainfall -- security forces maintained high morale and operational readiness.
The encounter underscores the state's continued efforts to dismantle Maoist strongholds and restore civil order in insurgency-hit zones.
The operation remains on-going, with forces maintaining heightened alert across the Bastar division, which has historically been a hotbed of left-wing extremism.

Farmer kills self after alleged harassment by wife, in-laws for 10L
Rajkot: Just five months into his marriage, a 38-year-old farmer from Agatrai village in Junagadh district died by suicide after allegedly being harassed by his wife and her family for Rs 10 lakh. The man drank acid and succumbed during treatment a week later. The deceased, Nilesh Dafda, drank acid on July 26 and died during treatment on August 2. Based on a complaint lodged by his father, Karmar Dafda, Keshod police have registered a case against Nilesh's wife Jignasha, her father Kana Ravaliya, and sister-in-law Kajal Ravaliya under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 108 (abetment of suicide), 115(2), and 54. No arrests have been made so far. According to police, Nilesh, had married Jignasha, a resident of Pipli village, on March 2, 2025. A month after the wedding, following a domestic dispute, Jignasha left her marital home and returned to her parents' place. When Nilesh's family attempted to resolve the matter, they were allegedly asked to pay Rs10 lakh to "settle" the issue. Junagadh student duped of 22L in cement dealership scam
Rajkot: A 19-year-old civil engineering student from Junagadh lost over Rs 22 lakh to cyber fraudsters who lured him with a fake offer of a cement company dealership. The victim, Prem Kachadiya, who also runs a real estate business with his uncle, has filed a complaint with the Junagadh Cyber Crime police station. According to the complaint, Kachadiya was searching online for a cement dealership to support his real estate ventures when he came across a toll-free number claiming to represent a reputed cement company. Upon contacting the number, he was issued a six-digit request ID and later received a call from a Hindi-speaking man who confirmed the ID and sent an application form along with requests for personal documents, including his PAN card, Aadhaar, and photographs. Shortly after, Kachadiya received a dealership confirmation letter bearing the company's logo, a signature, and a stamp of its managing director. He was then asked to make an initial payment of Rs 38,500 for processing, for which he received a GST-stamped receipt. Convinced of its authenticity, Kachadiya went on to make eight payments totaling Rs 22.05 lakh for various formalities like licensing and NOC. Despite repeated assurances, the promised delivery of 5,000 cement bags never materialized. The fraud deepened when he was asked to place an additional order for 10,000 bags to win an SUV. Growing suspicious, Kachadiya discussed the matter with his uncle, who recognized it as a scam. The two then approached the police.
