The nearly seven-foot beast - suspected to be a bull shark -
Jaw-dropping footage showed fellow surfers and swimmers rushing to help the teen while the shark lurked closely behind him - visible only by its gargantuan fin.
Screams could be heard in the background as a brave person punched the shark while others scrambled to safety.
But rescuers continued to be stalked by the creature as they carried the injured boy to safety.

One shocked onlooker exclaimed in the clip: "Oh my God, that's the shark."
And another said: "Oh f***! That's really scary!"
Thankfully an off-duty paramedic was at the scene and helped the teen using a tourniquet to help stop the excessive bleeding.

"He lost a scary amount of blood. I was covered in it."

The group then carried the boy out to safety on a surfboard they used as a makeshift stretcher.
Collel said he and several others "were just trying to keep him calm, holding his head and making sure he was okay".
He added: "I just kept talking to him and he told me how he fought off the shark by kicking and punching it away."
The boy was then airlifted to Gold Coast University
Hospital
by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

A second chopper was deployed to track down the shark after the horror incident, but to no avail.
The species of shark currently remains unknown, but locals believe it was a bull shark.
Some even fear it could be a two-metre great white.

The runaway killer fled Lebannon and is said to be hiding in Iran. The man who killed Private Sean Rooney is believed to be hiding out in Iran, according to sources. Hezbollah fighter Mohammed Ayyad has not been seen in over a year but Government and diplomat sources suspect he has fled Lebanon for Iran. The runaway killer was sentenced to death a few weeks ago on July 28 last by a military tribunal for the murder of the 23-year-old Dundalk soldier. But he wasn't in court for the conviction and the Lebanese authorities gave no indication where he was. Ayyad was initially released on bail over a year ago on medical grounds. But yesterday the Louth Sinn Fein TD Ruairi O'Murchu said it is unclear what his medical condition was. rooney News in 90 Seconds - August 16th He said: 'This guy seems to have vanished and nobody knows where he is." But Government insiders believe Ayyad has fled to Iran - the country which bankrolls the Hezbellah organisation in south Lebanon where Sean perished. It is not a satisfactory situation but all we can do is keep the pressure on and see if we can get justice for Sean and his family." Sean lost his life while three other Irish soldiers, Private Shane Kearney, Corporal Joshua Phelan, and Private Nathan Byra were injured. These are now being appealed by the Beirut government following pressure from Ireland and Sean's devastated family. Mr Harris said: " The Government has repeatedly stressed the need for justice to be served in this case.. We have raised the issue with the UN, and the Lebanese authorities . This is a difficult time for his family and the 121th Infantry Battalion." The Lebanese authorities have not executed any prisoners in over 20 years so the Irish Government is pushing for the killer to be found to serve a life in prison instead. The Taoiseach Micheal Martin after the court verdict said: 'Sean was a soldier of great courage who put the safety of others before his own safety in the line of duty. He was brave and diligent. "Peacekeeping is the most noble cause of all and the role of the peacekeeper must at all times be honoured and respected." The Irish Coroner's Inquest into Sean Rooney's death has been postponed and no new date confirmed. Defence Minister Harris revealed in a reply to Deputy O'Murchu that the Coroner has received a response from the United Nations to her request that they should be an interested party at the Inquest and grant access to a number of UN reports. Details of the UN response have not been released publicly. Mr Harris also said that an independent review into the murder by Mr Michael Delaney SC is ongoing. This review is examining the internal tactics, techniques , processes, and procedures employed by the Defence Forces with a view to determining whether there are lessons to be learned for the circumstances surrounding Private Rooney's death. Mr Delaney nis expected to report with Mr Harris in the autumn.

A VERDICT AND sentence in the coup trial against former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro will be delivered early next month, the country's Supreme Court has announced. The court said the five-justice panel that heard the right-wing leader's case will deliver verdicts and sentences on the five counts against him from 2 to 12 September. Bolsonaro, who has drawn the strong support of US President Donald Trump and who remains under house arrest, is accused of leading a conspiracy to stay in office after his narrow election defeat in 2022 to current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Bolsonaro faces up to 40 years in prison if found guilty. He denies wrongdoing. Advertisement Prosecutors say Bolsonaro and several of his allies headed a criminal organisation that plotted to overturn the election, including plans to kill Lula and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is overseeing the criminal case. Prosecutors have presented message exchanges, handwritten notes and other evidence allegedly detailing the plot. Defence lawyers have argued that no coup went forward and that Bolsonaro allowed the presidential transition to Lula to take place, undermining any allegations that he tried to thwart that process. There are two five-justice panels at Brazil's top court, and Justice de Moraes brought the case to the one he sits on. Bolsonaro, who governed from 2019 to 2022, appointed two members of the court, but both sit on the other panel.
