'Country Faced Serious Policy Paralysis Before 2014': Union Minister Pralhad Joshi On UPA Era
Last Updated:
He contrasted this with the past 11 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he said have been marked by steady growth and development across all sectors.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday criticised the Congress-led UPA government (2004–2014), stating that the country faced severe policy paralysis during that period due to instability and weak leadership.
He contrasted this with the past 11 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he said have been marked by steady growth and development across all sectors.
'Before 2014, the country was facing serious policy paralysis due to instability and weak leadership. As a result, governance suffered and development stalled. Today, under PM Modi, we have a stable government and strong leadership, which has enabled consistent growth and visible development across sectors. Just to cite an example, the percentage of people living in extreme poverty has drastically reduced, from around 21 per cent to just 5 per cent. More than 26 crore people have come out of multidimensional poverty. This transformation clearly reflects the positive impact of stable governance," Joshi said.
He further stated that the Modi government has earned the trust of the people through its record of effective governance over the last 11 years.
'Under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Samman Yojana, we have deposited Rs 3.70 lakh crore directly into the accounts of farmers… Rs 25 crore people have benefited from it… In every such area, the Modi government has moved forward as a decisive government. We have also received the trust of the people," he added.
As part of the commemoration of Prime Minister Modi's 11 years in office, the NaMo App has rolled out a nationwide initiative—the 'Jan Man Survey.' The survey quickly gained traction, collecting over 5 lakh responses from citizens across India within just a day of launch.
It aims to foster public participation in the democratic process by allowing people to voice their opinions on topics such as national security, governance, cultural heritage, and youth development.
The survey has emerged as a significant tool for grassroots engagement, ensuring that citizen input plays a role in shaping future policies. Hosted on the NaMo App, it is being viewed as a step toward deepening the connection between the government and the people it serves.

Mann, Kejriwal lay foundation stone of Rs 78-cr Burlton Park Sports Hub project in Jalandhar
Highlighting the Punjab government's plan to establish ultra-modern sports facilities statewide as a long-term solution to substance abuse and youth disillusionment, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday that 'stadiums in every village will be our answer to drugs'. The former Delhi chief minister and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann laid the foundation stone of the Burlton Park Sports Hub project in Jalandhar, an ambitious project to be developed at a cost of nearly Rs 78 crore. Terming it a 'historic' day, Kejriwal said India's first-of-its-kind multi-sports hub would provide thousands of people with opportunities to get into sports and maintain a healthy lifestyle, signaling a dramatic shift in the fight against drugs toward rebuilding lives through sports. Under the ongoing 'Yudh Nasheyan De Virudh' (War Against Drugs) campaign, the Punjab government is doubling down on its strategy: a crackdown on drug networks and opening up sporting pathways for youth. 'Operation Bulldoze, community cooperation and police broke the drug network, now sports will build the future,' Kejriwal said at the event. 'The state had once led the nation in sports, enterprise and courage, but decades of political mismanagement had allowed drugs to invade every family and village.' Kejriwal spoke about the establishment of new focal points across Punjab and the launch of the 'FastTrack Punjab Portal' to ensure investors receive all necessary approvals within 45 days of the application. Echoing this commitment, Mann noted, 'Jalandhar has produced generations of national athletes, especially in hockey. But that legacy had been tarnished as political apathy and poor governance allowed the drug menace to flourish. We promised a sports hub in 2022, and we are delivering it today.' Mann stated, 'Punjab's youth have unmatched energy and spirit — sports will be the channel through which we redirect that toward glory, not grief.' The chief minister announced that Burlton Park would soon be renamed after a legendary Punjabi sportsperson, erasing its colonial past and rooting it firmly in Punjab's proud identity. Plans were also unveiled for new international cricket stadiums in Jalandhar and Amritsar, following the model of Mullanpur, he said. The Rs 78-crore sports hub is expected to come up within a year, offering state-of-the-art facilities and access to thousands of aspiring athletes. More importantly, it's being positioned as a new front in Punjab's war against drugs — a symbol of hope and renewal. Mann and Kejriwal flagged off a shipment of 25,000 rugby balls to be used for matches in the prestigious 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup. They emphasised that it is a matter of great honour for Punjab that rugby balls manufactured by Savi International, a Jalandhar-based company, will be used in an international sporting event of such magnitude. Both the leaders added that the sports industry is playing a vital role in fuelling thousands of jobs and positioning Punjab as a global manufacturing powerhouse. Highlighting the global reputation of Jalandhar's sports industry, the leaders lauded the hardworking, resilient, and visionary manufacturers who have consistently delivered world-class products. They reaffirmed the Punjab government's commitment to giving a strong impetus to this vibrant sector.

ED arrests ex-Haryana MLA,aide in money laundering case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) said it has arrested a former MLA and a former Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) officer in an alleged money laundering case here. Ram Niwas and Sunil Kumar Bansal were arrested on June 9, under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 in the case of misappropriation of public funds in HSVP (formerly known as the Haryana Urban Development Authority) bank accounts, a statement from the agency said. Ram Niwas was a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2024. He represented the Narwana constituency after he won elections on a Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) ticket. He was also a former official of the HSVP. The ED initiated the investigation on the basis of FIR registered at Panchkula by Haryana Police against unknown persons, said the statement. This case was registered on a complaint by the Drawing and Disbursing Officer of HSVP, in which it was alleged that a 'fraud and financial loss' was committed through a bank account of HSVP, it added. As per the FIR, between 2015-2019, debit transactions amounting approximately Rs. 70 crore were repeatedly released in favour of some particular parties for no apparent reason from the said bank account of HSVP, causing a loss of Rs 70 Crore to HSVP. An internal enquiry by the HSVP revealed that no such bank account was reflected in the cash branch or IT wing of HSVP, meaning that HSVP was 'defrauded' by Sunil Kumar Bansal and Ram Niwas in a clandestine manner,' the ED statement said. Following their arrest, both the accused were presented before the Additional District and Sessions Court at Panchkula. They were remanded to five days' Enforcement Directorate custody..
