Dolphins cut practice squad linebacker, sign quarterback

Miami Herald22-05-2025

The Miami Dolphins announced two roster moves late Wednesday afternoon.
Quarterback Brett Gabbert was signed at the expense of linebacker William Bradley-King, who was subsequently cut, according to the Dolphins.
Bradley-King's short stint in Miami was spent on the 2024 Dolphins' practice squad. He played in four games with the Washington Commanders in 2021 and 2022, recording seven total tackles and a half sack. His 2023 season was primarily spent on the Commanders' practice squad.
An undrafted free agent out of Miami (Ohio) University, Gabbert joined the Dolphins during the 2025 offseason. The 24-year-old's claim to fame is more than just being the younger brother of NFL veteran quarterback Blaine Gabbert; he was featured on college football insider Bruce Feldman's 2024 'Freak List' following a horrific leg injury that could have ended his career.
'I felt my fibula go first,' Gabbert recalled to Feldman. 'It sounds gross, but you can obviously feel and you can hear it. Then felt my tibia go, and that doesn't feel great. I just remember throwing my helmet off and waving to the sideline just to have them come out there and cover it up because obviously the bone was sticking out.'
Gabbert broke his leg in October 2023. By September 2024, he had started the season opener. Even more impressive: this was the second time Gabbert had overcome a significant injury as he broke his collarbone in 2022.
'The kid is so competitive, driven, committed,' Miami coach Chuck Martin told Feldman. 'He does everything right all the time. He's like a machine. And it's not just how he comes back from these major injuries multiple times. He'll stand in the pocket and he'll take a hit. His willingness to sacrifice for the team. He plays with no fear.'
Gabbert started 53 games across his six seasons at Miami. He completed roughly 59% of his passes for 10,814 yards and 80 touchdowns. Despite his 30 interceptions, Gabbert's passing yards and touchdowns rank third and second, respectively, among RedHawks quarterbacks.
With Gabbert officially signed, the Dolphins now have four quarterbacks on the roster including Tua Tagovailoa, Zach Wilson and Quinn Ewers.

Disturbing Details Emerge Regarding Quinn Ewers' Injury at Texas

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers experienced a crushing end to his college football career, losing in the semi-finals to the national champion Ohio State Buckeyes, and looking hurt in the process. Truth came out about his injury, as he was interviewed by former five-year NFL backup quarterback Kurt Benkert. Advertisement In their sit down, Ewers told Benkert that he was playing with a grade three ankle sprain, something that is not supposed to be played football on. Something that clearly affected him in the end of his collegiate career at Texas, and perhaps something that hindered his draft status as he fell to the seventh round, where the Miami Dolphins selected him. Martinez/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Certainly disturbing details surrounding his situation, as fans around the sport saw a less mobile version of Ewers that we have been used to seeing during his time with the Longhorns. After a rough end for Ewers, he is healthy and starting his next steps as a professional quarterback in Miami, Florida. After going viral on Jon Gruden's QB Class with his praise on Ewers' ability and knowledge of throwing the football, he now enters his next stage. Advertisement The coming weeks and months will be big for his development, and now that he is healthy, can show the Dolphins who they really got as a potential steal in the NFL Draft. He was recently spotted at the NFL Players Association Rookie Premiere event sporting his new number for the Dolphins, as he will be wearing the No. 14 for Mike McDaniel's team this season. A potential story to watch will be how he plays in camp and in the pre-season, and barring injury to star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, playing time in the regular season as well. Golden Tate speaks out on explosive Jalen Ramsey feud over sister that blew up on field

Former Giants receiver Golden Tate is peeling back the curtain on his widely publicized feud with current Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey, which exploded on the field in October 2020. During a recent appearance on the 'Bussin' with the Boys' podcast, Tate expanded on the beef with Ramsey, who previously dated the wideout's sister and ended the relationship while she was pregnant with their second child in 2019. 'Him and one of my twin sisters have two children together,' Tate said on the program hosted by Taylor Lewan and Will Compton. '… Now things happened within that relationship where I don't think my sister was done or treated the way she should have been treated. And when that happens, who you gotta come see? You gotta come see big bro.' Advertisement 6 Golden Tate spoke about his widely publicized beef with Jalen Ramsey on the 'Bussin' with the Boys' podcast. When a fan tweeted to Tate, 'If I was @ShowtimeTate I would have words with this young fella,' the former second-round pick replied, 'He know he gonna have to see me.' Advertisement Fast-forward 12 months, when Tate's Giants and Ramsey's Rams faced off on Oct. 4, 2020, the fireworks shortly ignited. 'We get out there and right away, first one he's overly jamming me and I'm like, 'OK, this is how we're going to do,'' Tate recalled. '… Whatever I do, I cannot cost my team a penalty or cost myself any money, so that's in my back pocket. I'm not going to do that cause that's selfish, but I'm in his face, I'm talking my mess, he talking his mess.'
