Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai reaffirms commitment to farmers' prosperity; stresses role of soil health cards at Agri-Horti Expo

Time of India28-06-2025
RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday reaffirmed his government's unwavering commitment to the prosperity of farmers, emphasising the critical role of technology, market access, and scientific tools like Soil Health Cards in boosting agricultural productivity and income.
He was virtually inaugurating the Agri-Horti Expo and Buyers-Sellers Meet, organised under the Krishi Kranti Abhiyan, from his camp office in Bagia, Jashpur district.
Describing the event as a "milestone" in Jashpur's agricultural development, chief minister Sai hailed the district administration's innovative efforts and launched the Krishi Kranti campaign, which aims to connect farmers directly with national agri-businesses.
Leading companies are participating in the two-day event at the Zila Panchayat complex.
Through Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), farmers will be able to sign crop sale agreements with these companies, bypassing middlemen and ensuring fair prices for their produce.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, the chief minister underscored the value of Soil Health Cards, calling them an essential scientific tool for increasing yield and reducing input costs.
'These cards help determine what crops are best suited for specific soil types and indicate the exact quantity of fertilisers required, enabling farmers to make informed decisions,' he said. He also noted that agricultural scientists are travelling across Chhattisgarh to raise awareness about soil health and best farming practices.
Sai noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, central schemes like PM Fasal Bima Yojana and PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi are bolstering farmer incomes.
The state government, he added, is supplementing these efforts by procuring paddy at Rs 3,100 per quintal (for up to 21 quintals per acre), collecting forest produce at MSP, and promoting processing and export-oriented schemes.
The chief minister also highlighted Jashpur's rich horticultural potential, citing its abundant production of jackfruit, mango, litchi, pear, and the recent introduction of apple cultivation.
The district, he said, is well-positioned to become an agri-horti powerhouse in the region.
In addition to agriculture, Sai pointed out the state's focus on animal husbandry, fisheries, and dairy development, noting that Jashpur is one of six districts selected for a pilot project under the Dairy Development Scheme.
Expo to showcase innovation and reward excellence
Farmers and FPOs are displaying high-quality organic produce, including varieties of paddy, kutki, ragi, ramtil, and chilli. Competitions for best mango and pear, as well as innovative farming techniques, are being held with prize money awarded to winning farmers to promote innovation.

Bastar region sets benchmark in digital healthcare services in Chhattisgarh: Govt

Raipur, Chhattisgarh's Bastar division has been witnessing a major transformation in healthcare with the effective implementation of digital medical services in the tribal-dominated region, officials said on Monday. Bastar region sets benchmark in digital healthcare services in Chhattisgarh: Govt Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has been making consistent and determined efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in Bastar, where effective implementation of the Next Gen e-Hospital system, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana services are proving to be a game-changer, a government statement said. The Next Gen e-Hospital system is functioning in six district hospitals, two civil hospitals and 41 community health centres of the Bastar region comprising seven districts, including Bastar, Kanker, Kondgaon, Narayanpur, Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma, it said. This system brings the OPD registration, consultation, diagnostics, medicine distribution and all patient-related medical information on to a single digital platform, ensuring better and timely services for patients. The integration of digital technology has led to remarkable improvements in transparency, efficiency and patient satisfaction across these hospitals, the release said. Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, Health Facility Registration for hospitals and Health Professional Registration for doctors and nursing staff have been completed in the region. Ayushman Bharat Health Account kiosks have been set up in hospital premises, enabling patients to create their health accounts. The "Scan & Share" feature and ABHA ID-based online OPD registration have spared patients from waiting in long queues, allowing them to receive prompt services, the release said. The impact of these digital innovations is visible, as the Bastar District Hospital recorded a total of 60,045 OPD registrations in May, June and July this year. Out of these, 32,379 were linked with ABHA. During the same period, Dantewada District Hospital recorded 33,895 OPD registrations, with 13,729 linked to ABHA, as per the release. This entire process not only saves time but also provides patients with digital health records which they can access anywhere in the country. It has improved transparency in the healthcare system while enhancing continuity and quality of treatment, it said. CM Sai said the digital services have ensured timely, accessible and quality treatment to patients in the region. "This initiative is not just a model for Bastar but for the entire state. We will soon implement it across all districts to realise the vision of a 'Healthy and Empowered Chhattisgarh'," he added. State Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said these services in healthcare go beyond mere digitisation as they serve as a powerful bridge connecting people in rural and remote areas to quality medical facilities. The positive results from Bastar prove that when technology, administrative willpower and public participation come together, the pace of development multiplies manifold, he said. This initiative will not only transform healthcare services, but also ensure Chhattisgarh's substantial contribution to building a 'Healthy India', he added. PM Fasal Bima Yojana: Rs 3,200 Cr To Be Released Today, How To Check Beneficiary List

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will distribute Rs 3,200 crore to 30 lakh farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. PM Fasal Bima Yojana: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is set to distribute Rs 3,200 crore to over 30 lakh farmers across the country today. He said that soon money will be distributed to farmers in many states of the country in lieu of their damaged crops. During a program organized in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will digitally transfer crop insurance claim amount of Rs 3,200 crore to 30 lakh farmer beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) on Monday. Apart from Chauhan, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Chaudhary and State Agriculture Minister Kirori Lal Meena will also be present in the program. According to an official statement, out of the total claim amount under crop insurance, Rs 1,156 crore will be transferred to the farmers of Madhya Pradesh, Rs 1,121 crore to the farmers of Rajasthan, Rs 150 crore to the farmers of Chhattisgarh and Rs 773 crore to the farmers of other states. The Agriculture Minister said that the Center has implemented a new simplified claim settlement system in the interest of farmers, under which proportional payment of claims will be made only on the basis of central subsidy, without waiting for the premium contribution of the state. Fine will be imposed if money is not paid The Agriculture Minister said that from the Kharif 2025 session, if any state government delays its subsidy contribution, then a penalty of 12 percent will be imposed on it. Similarly, if insurance companies delay payment, then a penalty of 12 percent will also be imposed on them. Since the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in 2016, claims worth Rs 1.83 lakh crore have been settled under it, while farmers have paid a premium of only Rs 35,864 crore. What Is PM Fasal Bima Yojana? The government launched the crop insurance scheme in 2016 to protect farmers from crop damage due to weather and disaster. Under this, farmers can get their crops insured by paying a nominal premium. If their crops are damaged due to weather or any other reason, then insurance can be claimed. To settle the claim, the government surveys the destroyed crops and compensates for whatever loss occurs. The PMFBY beneficiary list is not publicly released with names and details of all beneficiaries. Instead, farmers can check their individual application status using their policy ID or receipt number on the official PMFBY portal. Mahadayi water tribunal also gets year's extension

NEW DELHI: After giving back-to-back extension to two water disputes tribunals, Centre has extended the tenure of a third one, the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal, as well for a period of one year with effect from Aug 16. Constituted in Nov 2010 for adjudicating the dispute over river water sharing among Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka, the tribunal has had the third longest tenure among the four active water disputes tribunals in the country, which continue to get extensions year after year, as they have not been able to resolve the long-pending disputes. The last extension to the Mahadayi tribunal was granted in Feb for a period of six months but, ahead of expiry of its term, it requested Centre to extend the timeline for submission of its further report by one year. Accordingly, a gazette notification to this effect was issued last week, extending its tenure under Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956. The tribunal had submitted its earlier report and decision in Aug 2018, but all the three states made objections, seeking revised reports which would address their respective concerns. The tribunal with the longest tenure is the Ravi and Beas Tribunal constituted 39 years ago, followed by the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal which was constituted 21 years ago in April 2004. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? The Mahanadi tribunal is the fourth active water disputes tribunal, constituted in March 2018 for adjudicating disputes between Odisha and Chhattisgarh. As both the states have BJP govts, they may go for an amicable solution to resolve their long-pending issues. Last month, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi wrote to his Chhattisgarh counterpart Vishnu Deo Sai for a mutually beneficial settlement. He has proposed that a joint committee, comprising officials of both the states and the Central Water Commission, arrive at an equitable and timely solution to the dispute.
