Sky Germany reports that Bayer Leverkusen are monitoring AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche as they look to boost their attacking options this summer.
After the sale of Florian Wirtz, Leverkusen are looking to diversify their attacking options in an attempt to replace the 22-year-old.

die Werkself are already in talks with Malik Tillman over a move from PSV Eindhoven this summer, who could cost more than €30m, but the aim is to sign other players as well.
One who is deemed as a dream target for Leverkusen is Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche. Leverkusen have held initial talks with the 23-year-old, but the hurdle will be the price as Monaco have high demands for the winger, who has a contract until 2028.
On top of this, Leverkusen could face competition from several other European clubs.
Leverkusen have also been linked with Nico Paz of Como and Johan Bakayoko of PSV. This would suggest the direction in terms of formation that Leverkusen will take under Erik ten Hag, a 4-2-3-1. Previously, wingers were of no use to Leverkusen due to Xabi Alonso's preference for a 3-4-2-1 system.

Bayer Leverkusen reach agreement with PSV's Malik Tillman

Bayer Leverkusen's search for a successor to Florian Wirtz continues. Kicker report that the Bundesliga side have reached an agreement with PSV's Malik Tillman although there is a debate surrounding the player's release clause. The American has a reported €35m exit clause but, according to Voetbal International, this only applied to Bayern Munich, who sold Tillman to PSV last summer for €12m. The 23-year-old, who was born in Germany but holds American citizenship, scored 12 goals and provided two assists as Peter Bosz' PSV pipped Ajax to the Eredivisie title. Advertisement Kicker add that Tillman's €35m clause also applies to them from a certain date while PSV deny this, claiming that Bayern Munich are the only club that can benefit from the clause. But the Dutch side have been in a similar position before, which, per Kicker, 'gives reason not to necessarily follow the Eindhoven version.' In the case of Xavi Simons, in 2023 it emerged that Xavi could return to Paris Saint-Germain in an agreement that was valid for one year, which turned out to be for two seasons. And the €12m fee that PSV had thought was included in the contract, later turned out to be a €6m buy-back clause, €2m of which went to the player. GGFN | Daniel Pinder

French giants Lyon relegated to Ligue 2 over financial difficulties

Seven-time French champions Lyon have been relegated to Ligue 2 due to ongoing financial difficulties. French football's financial watchdog (DNCG) confirmed the decision on Tuesday following an audit of the club, who failed to convince authorities that their economic woes were resolved. Advertisement Lyon were hit with a provisional relegation back in November after racking up massive debts, and although they have since sold a number of first-team players, DNCG upheld the relegation following meetings on Tuesday. The decision was announced by the French Football League (LFP) on Tuesday evening. Monaco, Nantes and Paris FC will face no further action. Although Lyon can still appeal against the ruling, the decision to relegate a club that won seven consecutive titles between 2001-02 and 2007-08, and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League as recently as 2020, will send shockwaves through French football. The club's president John Textor told L'Equipe last week he was confident the club's financial position had been resolved, having said back in November there was "no chance" the club would be relegated. Advertisement Textor is in the process of selling his shares in Premier League club Crystal Palace, who are at risk of being denied their place in the Europa League next season as Lyon have also qualified after finishing sixth in Ligue 1. A sale to Woody Johnson, owner of the NFL's New York Jets, has been agreed but the Premier League is yet to ratify the deal and Johnson must yet pass the Premier League's owners' and directors' test. After receiving the provisional relegation last year, Lyon sold the likes of Said Benrahma, Anthony Lopes and Maxence Caqueret in January, and this summer they have already sold Rayan Cherki to Manchester City. Lyon relegated to Ligue 2 following review of financial situation

Lyon have been demoted to Ligue 2 ahead of the 2025-26 season as a review confirmed their administrative relegation. Direction Nationale du Controle de Gestion (DNCG, the body responsible for overseeing the finances of French football clubs) confirmed via the Ligue de Football Professionnel (French football's governing body) that Lyon would be relegated but no action would be taken against Monaco, Nantes and Paris FC. Advertisement Lyon will have the chance to appeal the decision. In November, the DNCG handed Lyon a provisional administrative relegation to Ligue 2, the second division of French football, and would observe a transfer ban in January following an audit of their finances. That relegation was provisionally based on Lyon, who won seven Ligue 1 titles between 2001-02 and 2007-08, failing to satisfactorily improve their financial situation before the end of the season — which officially concludes on June 30. John Textor, whose Eagle Football Group owns a 77 per cent stake in Lyon, said in November there was 'no chance' the club would be relegated. Montpellier, St-Etienne and Reims were all relegated from Ligue 1 in 2024-25, with Lorient, Paris FC and Metz promoted to the top flight. Textor has agreed a deal to sell Eagle Football's 43 per cent stake in Crystal Palace to Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets. The sale will have to be ratified by the Premier League, with Johnson being the subject of the league's owners' and directors' test, a process which typically takes around two months. The DNCG determined in July 2024 that Bordeaux be relegated two divisions to the fourth tier, losing their professional status, due to their financial situation. The previous year, Sochaux were administratively relegated to the third tier. Textor, 59, also owns controlling stakes in Brazilian club Botafogo and RWD Molenbeek of Belgium. Nancy successfully appeal against the DNCG's decision to relegate the club two divisions to the fifth tier in 2023. ()
