Video: 4 whales wash ashore in Japan after tsunami

Published July 30th, 2025 - 07:00 GMT ALBAWABA - Hours after Russia's 8.8-magnitude earthquake, Japan was hit with a 1.3-meter tsunami, causing four whales to wash ashore along the coast of Tateyama, Chiba. A live broadcast captured the rare moment as whales are usually not affected by tsunamis. Another video showed Japanese civilians in Hokkaido taking shelter on top of a building in fear of the tsunami. Authorities in Japan urged citizens to stay alert as bigger waves could be on their way. A social media user wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), "It's not a common thing to see at all, and it's indicative that this quake was absolutely DEVASTATING to the marine life." Jordan dispatches 60-truck humanitarian convoy to Gaza, more deliveries expected in coming days

AMMAN — A new humanitarian aid convoy consisting of 60 trucks loaded with food supplies departed on Sunday for the war-torn Gaza Strip. This convoy, which falls within Jordan's ongoing efforts to support Palestinians amid worsening humanitarian conditions, was organised in coordination with the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), the World Food Programme (WFP), and World Central Kitchen, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. This latest delivery reflects Jordan's commitment to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and provide urgent relief to Gaza's residents, especially given the severe shortages of basic necessities caused by the ongoing blockade. The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) coordinated the convoy in cooperation with several official bodies and humanitarian organisations, as part of a series of Jordanian initiatives aimed at alleviating the suffering of civilians in the besieged Strip. The shipment addresses immediate food needs and will be followed by additional deliveries in the coming days, Petra added.

Jordan dispatches fifth humanitarian convoy to Gaza in 10 days

AMMAN — The Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) on Thursday sent a new humanitarian aid convoy to Gaza, intensifying its relief efforts amid the deepening humanitarian crisis in the besieged Strip. Organized in cooperation with World Central Kitchen and the World Food Programme (WFP), the convoy consists of 50 trucks carrying essential food items, including flour and infant formula. The supplies are part of ongoing response to the severe shortages of food and basic necessities faced by residents in Gaza. According to a JHCO statement, the shipment also includes ingredients used to prepare hot meals distributed by World Central Kitchen teams in Gaza, as well as large quantities of grains and cooking oil intended to support thousands of families in need, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. This latest convoy marks the fifth coordinated delivery of humanitarian aid from Jordan in partnership with international organizations within a 10-day span. A total of 147 trucks were sent in the previous four convoys. On Wednesday, a separate convoy of 36 trucks entered the war-torn Strip through the Zikim border crossing, after World Central Kitchen facilitated the entry and distribution of supplies.
