Connor Zilisch sports a smile and elbow sling at Watkins Glen a day after his nasty fall

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP) — Sporting a smile with his left elbow in a black sling draped around his neck, Connor Zilisch was back Sunday at Watkins Glen International and recounting his scary fall in victory lane.
After winning Saturday's Xfinity race at the road course, Zilisch took a nasty tumble while attempting a celebratory perch on his No. 88 Chevrolet in celebration. Zilisch, 19, was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a broken collarbone. Trackhouse Racing withdrew the No. 87 Chevy that he was scheduled to drive in the Cup race Sunday at Watkins Glen.
'First of all, I'm doing OK,' Zilisch said during the USA broadcast of the Cup race. 'Very grateful to be able to walk away from that, and I guess I didn't walk away, but I'm very grateful to be walking today and to just be all right. Thank you to all the medics who took care of me, and everybody who reached out and wished me well. I do appreciate it a lot.'
After his series-high sixth victory, Zilisch realized he was in trouble immediately after the chaos began in victory lane, which typically is a frenzied scene of winning team members cheering and tossing beverages as their driver exits the car.
'Yeah, I was climbing out of the car and obviously the window net was on the door, and as soon as they started spraying water, my foot slipped,' he said. 'And the last thing I remember was being halfway down and falling, so I'm glad it wasn't any worse, and that the collarbone is the extent of the injuries, but hate I couldn't make it to the race today.'
The question now turns to whether Zilisch will be ready in time to race in the next Xfinity race on Aug. 22 at Daytona International Speedway.
'We're still working out with all the doctors to figure out what's going to be the next steps,' Zilisch said.
He already has shown to be a quick healer this season. After a one-race absence at Texas Motor Speedway because of a back injury from a crash at Talladega Superspeedway, Zilisch had posted 11 consecutive top-five finishes and five wins since his return.
He noted that Trackhouse teammate Shane van Gisbergen 'had a place put in once and raced the weekend after. So I don't know if I'll be that quick, but hopefully my young bones will heal fast, and I'll be able to get back in it as soon as possible.'

Xfinity introduces World Soccer Ticket giving you access to more than 1500 matches from the biggest leagues across the globe

Comcast is releasing a new package meant for soccer fans, available starting today (August 13) for Xfinity customers. The World Soccer Ticket package combines nearly 60 channels, Peacock, and an X1 device to give you access to more than 1,500 matches from the biggest leagues around the world. It won't come cheap, as the Xfinity website shows that World Soccer Ticket will cost $85 a month. That said, the Ticket gives you a subscription to Peacock Premium at no additional cost; currently, Peacock costs $10.99 per month. 'We did the work for our customers and pulled together the most coveted leagues and tournaments – from Premier League, La Liga, and Champions League to the World Cup – and put them in one place,' said Jon Gieselman, Chief Growth Officer for Comcast, in a press release. It's not clear how many leagues will be accessible in the package, but here are the leagues and tournaments we know you'll be able to watch in English or Spanish: Comcast says that additional subscriptions like MLS Season Pass or ESPN+ will not be required to view games, though you can add those subscriptions if you'd like. Additionally, because of access to channels like ABC, ESPN, and Fox, you'll also be able to watch games from other leagues, including the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, and NCAA football and basketball. For those who don't want to use the X1 box, you can access the package via the Xfinity Stream app, which is available on supported platforms, like Apple TV, Roku, and Xumo streaming devices or your phone. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. According to Comcast, you'll be using Multiview to have several games showing at the same time, plus 4K streaming and the Sports Zone, which provides live scores and schedules. If you find the package lacking a channel or channels, you can add other Xfinity packages on top of World Soccer Ticket. As mentioned, the World Soccer Ticket is available now for $85 a month.

Premier League chief calls for patience as Man City legal case drags on

LONDON (AP) — The Premier League's top official called for patience Wednesday while the seismic legal case involving Manchester City drags on into another season. City was charged by the league in February 2023 with more than 100 financial breaches, including providing misleading information about its sources of income. The case was heard by an independent commission between September and December last year but no verdict has been reached. Punishment could be as extreme as expulsion from the top flight. City has always denied the charges. The issue hangs over the start of another Premier League campaign, with the 2025-26 season starting Friday. But Richard Masters, the competition's chief executive, reiterated the league has no control or say over the timings. Asked in an interview with British broadcaster Sky Sports News why the league could not hurry the process along, Masters said: 'I can't answer that specific question. All I can tell you about is the system and how it works. 'I mean, it's an independent judiciary, essentially. So once the allegations, the charge, has been put forward, they go before an independent panel, which is independently selected, and they are then in charge of the process and its timings. They hear the case, they decide the outcome, and we have no influence over that, over it or its timing. That's right from an independence point of view." 'I just have to wait,' he said, "and legal processes rarely take less time than you anticipated, but we have to be patient.' Taking the Premier League abroad The Spanish league has recently approved a request for a match, between Villarreal and Barcelona, to be played in the United States in December and Masters was asked whether the Premier League had any similar desire to take a game abroad. Masters said the need has lessened. 'We did look at the '39th game' way back when, with lots of controversy. I recall that very clearly," Masters said of a controversial proposal made back in 2008 of having an extra round of matches played overseas. 'Our objective at the time, when thinking about it, was to help grow the Premier League around the world. 'And we've been able to do that through different means, through brilliant broadcast partnerships, through digital technology, investing in other areas, like the Summer Series tournament we've just had in the U.S., and now the Premier League is a genuinely global league. There are billions of people who will be tuning in over the course of the next next nine months to watch Premier League action. So we've achieved that objective by different means, that necessity has dissipated.'

Scottie Scheffler to use a different caddie at BMW Championship as regular deals with family matter

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler is going with a PGA Tour caddie for the BMW Championship as his regular looper, Ted Scott, deals with a family emergency at home in Louisiana. Scott had to leave immediately after the third round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and Scheffler used longtime friend Brad Payne from the College Golf Fellowship. This week he has turned to Michael Cromie. He usually works for Chris Kirk, who missed qualifying for the BMW Championship by one shot. 'He works really hard and does a good job. We're both learning a new golf course this week, so it's been fun,' Scheffler said. The family matter involving Scott was kept private, though Scheffler said he has spoken to him a couple of times and the family was in good spirits. 'I think Ted's where he needs to be right now, and I think caddying is probably the last thing on his mind, as it should be,' Scheffler said. Scheffler finished one shot out of a playoff last week at the TPC Southwind. He remains the No. 1 seed in the FedEx Cup at the BMW Championship and already is assured of a $5 million bonus for staying at the top going into the FedEx Cup finale next week at East Lake. Scheffler said Cromie was learning a lot of the minutiae that often goes unnoticed by spectators, such as when he likes to snack and how often to drink, and how he likes to get the yardage and other conditions communicated to him. There's also the matter of getting yardages from tee-to-green. 'Brad did a great job stepping in, but Brad is a friend, he's not a professional caddie,' Scheffler said. "I think when you have a professional on the bag, it's a bit different. It's not that I don't trust Brad to do the numbers. It was just something that I think both of us probably thought it was a good idea to be double-checking each other. "Going into this week, it will be kind of more of a normal routine for me in terms of preparation over the shot and stuff like that," he said. 'It's nice for me to be able to walk up to the ball, see the shot that I can imagine hitting, and then when the numbers come, we start trying to really dial it in.'
