
Man charged with attempted murder after 'person knocked down and dog killed'
Emergency services were called to Belville Street after the man, who was walking a dog, was hit around 8.40pm on Friday.
The 28-year-old was taken to hospital and later released. The dog died at the scene.
Reece Stewart appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, charged with attempted murder, causing assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
The 27-year-old from Port Glasgow also faced charges under the Animal Health and Welfare Act, the Road Traffic Act, and the Misuse of Drugs Act.
He made no plea and was released on bail.
Detective inspector Nicky Beattie said: 'I would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and support while we carried out our enquiries.'

Dog dies and man seriously injured after car driven into park in murder bid
A dog has died and a man is seriously injured in hospital after a car was driven into a park in Aberdeen. Police were called to reports of a car in Eric Hendrie Park on Deveron Road and a disturbance taking place around 8.30pm on Sunday. A 51-year-old man was raced to hospital following an attempted murder in a park in Aberdeen. Police have taped off an Aberdeen park following the attempted murder of a man and the death of an XL Bully dog. Emergency crews raced to Eric Hendrie Park on Deveron Road in Aberdeen on Sunday July 27 at around 8.30pm after officers received a report of a disturbance involving a vehicle within the park. A 51-year-old man was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following the incident, where hospital staff have described his condition as serious but stable. Police Scotland are understood to be treating the incident as attempted murder. The man's XL Bully dog died as a result of the disturbance. Photographs from the scene showed an area of the park taped off by police. Enquiries are ongoing in the area to trace everyone involved. Search for missing man last seen walking in the Highlands in the early hours
Police are searching for a man from England who has gone missing in the Highlands. Ronald Windle was last seen around 2am on Sunday in the vicinity of Fort George in Ardersier. The 54-year-old's whereabouts are currently unknown, and concerns are growing among his family and friends. Ronald is described as a white, English male, around 5ft 8ins in height. He has thinning grey/white hair. At the time of his disappearance, he is believed to have been wearing a black T-shirt featuring a Corvette logo and black jeans. Police are urging anyone who might have seen him walking towards in Inverness to get in touch. Acting police sergeant Stuart Mackenzie of Burnett Police Station in Inverness said: 'Ronald has now been missing for a number of hours, and we are increasingly concerned for his welfare. 'We are appealing particularly to motorists who were in the Fort George or A96 areas, and who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch. 'If you saw a man matching Ronald's description walking in the direction of Inverness, please contact us. 'We currently have a number of police resources deployed in the area, and public assistance could be vital in helping us locate Ronald.'
