How former Wisconsin PG Chucky Hepburn performed in final NBA Summer League games

USA Today20-07-2025
Former Wisconsin point guard Chucky Hepburn wrapped up his 2025 NBA Summer League season with a pair of notable performances -- each for different reasons.
In the Toronto Raptors' 81-69 win over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, the undrafted rookie went scoreless with five assists and two steals in 16 minutes of action off the bench. That zero-point outing came on 0-of-3 shooting from the field and 0-of-1 from 3-point range.
That performance followed a string of relatively low point totals from the longtime Badger. In the Raptors' first three Summer League games, Hepburn scored two, six and three points, respectively. While the assist and steal numbers are strong enough to headline his stat sheet, the lack of scoring production is a bit of a surprise after he averaged 16.4 points per game in a breakthrough senior season at Louisville.

With that trend in mind, Hepburn entered the Raptors' Summer League semifinal matchup against the Sacramento Kings needing to make a statement. He was on his way to doing exactly that through his first nine minutes of action, with eight quick points off 1-of-4 shooting and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. A string of fouls sent him to the bench for a significant portion of the fourth quarter, before he picked up his sixth and final foul in the game's closing seconds. Toronto fell 98-88, ending its Summer League session.
Hepburn signed a two-way deal with the Raptors following June's NBA draft. Given that status, the 2025 ACC Defensive Player of the Year should get plenty of opportunities during the Raptors' training camp and preseason schedule. A start in the G League will likely follow, barring an unforeseen breakout.

Former Wisconsin basketball standout signs new professional contract

Former Wisconsin basketball standout Tyler Wahl inked a deal with Panionios B.C. of the Greek Basket League on Tuesday. For the first time in his brief professional career overseas, Wahl will lace up in EuroCup action. Panionios B.C. participates in the Greek Basketball League -- one of Europe's most elite national domestic leagues. Home to powerhouse Panathinaikos, the league has seen action since the 1920s. Wahl ventures to Greece after a widely successful stint with KK Zadar, or Zadar Basketball Club, of the Croatian Basketball League and Adriatic Basketball Association this past season. In 28 appearances, the 6-foot-9 forward logged 10.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 25.1 minutes per game. In June, the Minnesota native even helped guide Zadar to its third consecutive Croatian Basketball League title with a two-point win over Split, solidifying his value in his first year playing internationally. Over his five-year collegiate career with the Badgers, Wahl averaged 8.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 162 games played under Greg Gard. As a junior, he notched 11.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals on 51% from the field -- his best season donning the scarlet and white. Prior to his stint with KK Zadar, Wahl suited up for pre-draft workouts with the Utah Jazz and Milwaukee Bucks in 2024. After going undrafted in 2024, Wahl played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Summer League. Despite his age, Wahl becomes the latest former Badger to ink a new international deal this summer, joining Kamari McGee, Carter Gilmore and Markus Ilver. ESPN: Wisconsin basketball among top 25 teams for 2025-26 season

Wisconsin is ranked #20 in ESPN's Inaugural CBB power rankings 👀 Wisconsin basketball landed at No. 20 in ESPN's latest list of college basketball's top 25 teams for the 2025-26 season on Tuesday. The list, which focuses on one non-conference game to watch for each program included in the hierarchy, sandwiched the Badgers between the Gonzaga Bulldogs (No. 19) and the Kansas Jayhawks (No. 21). ESPN's Jeff Borzello circled UW's No. 21 bout against the BYU Cougars as the organization's most significant non-conference bout. Here's what Borzello highlighted ahead of the matchup: "Wisconsin's improvement, and change in style, on the offensive end was one of the more positive Big Ten storylines of last season. Without John Tonje, though, what will the Badgers look like at that end? There's no better test of firepower than going away from home to face what should be one of the most explosive offenses in the country." While Tonje, starting center Steven Crowl and starting guard Max Klesmit will no longer suit up for the Badgers, UW addressed voids in its starting unit via the transfer portal this offseason. San Diego State guard Nick Boyd, Virginia guard Andrew Rhode and Portland forward Austin Rapp project to lace up alongside returners John Blackwell and Nolan Winter this fall to create one of the more potent offenses in the Big Ten. In a rematch of UW's 2025 NCAA Tournament Round of 32 loss to the Cougars, Wisconsin's new trio will look to make a national introduction in Salt Lake City. BYU now rosters A.J. Dybantsa, a projected 2026 NBA draft lottery pick with superstar upside. Wisconsin's newcomers combined for nearly 40 points per game a season ago. As fantastic as the Badgers' offense performed during the 2024-25 campaign, UW fans could see an even more versatile half-court attack this fall. The Badgers will begin the journey in an exhibition vs. the Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 24. Wisconsin football top class of 2027 linebacker target to visit in November

Wisconsin football class of 2027 linebacker target Tate Wallace shared his plans to visit the Badgers on Nov. 22 via X on Tuesday. The four-star defensive playmaker will venture to Madison for the Badgers' final home game of the 2025 slate against Illinois. Wallace also intends to visit the Kansas State Wildcats (Aug. 30), Michigan State Spartans (Sept. 6), Tennessee Volunteers (Sept. 13), Michigan Wolverines (Oct. 4), Minnesota Golden Gophers (Oct. 11), Indiana Hoosiers (Oct. 18) and Northwestern Wildcats (Nov. 15). 247Sports considers the four-star prospect as the No. 148 overall recruit, No. 9 linebacker and No. 2 athlete from Iowa for the class of 2027. As a sophomore at Regina High School, Wallace also suits up at running back and receiver. Away from the gridiron, he plays varsity basketball and baseball as a three-sport athlete, per MaxPreps. Like several of his 2027 contemporaries, Wallace's final collegiate destination remains unclear. On3/Rivals considers Minnesota the early favorite at 36.5%, but Miami (Ohio) follows at No. 2 with a 32% chance to land his commitment. Nonetheless, Wallace's inclusion of the Badgers is an encouraging sign at this stage of the process. As of Aug. 6, the Badgers do not boast a 2027 commitment. Its class of 2026 -- the more prudent recruiting task -- remains ranked at No. 60 in the nation with 14 commitments.
