Former Wisconsin basketball standout signs new professional contract

Former Wisconsin basketball standout Tyler Wahl inked a deal with Panionios B.C. of the Greek Basket League on Tuesday.
For the first time in his brief professional career overseas, Wahl will lace up in EuroCup action. Panionios B.C. participates in the Greek Basketball League -- one of Europe's most elite national domestic leagues. Home to powerhouse Panathinaikos, the league has seen action since the 1920s.
Wahl ventures to Greece after a widely successful stint with KK Zadar, or Zadar Basketball Club, of the Croatian Basketball League and Adriatic Basketball Association this past season. In 28 appearances, the 6-foot-9 forward logged 10.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 25.1 minutes per game.
In June, the Minnesota native even helped guide Zadar to its third consecutive Croatian Basketball League title with a two-point win over Split, solidifying his value in his first year playing internationally.
Over his five-year collegiate career with the Badgers, Wahl averaged 8.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 162 games played under Greg Gard. As a junior, he notched 11.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals on 51% from the field -- his best season donning the scarlet and white.
Prior to his stint with KK Zadar, Wahl suited up for pre-draft workouts with the Utah Jazz and Milwaukee Bucks in 2024. After going undrafted in 2024, Wahl played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Summer League.
Despite his age, Wahl becomes the latest former Badger to ink a new international deal this summer, joining Kamari McGee, Carter Gilmore and Markus Ilver.

Former Wisconsin Badger suffers season-ending injury in NFL joint practice

Sean Payton confirmed Matt Henningsen tore his Achilles on Thursday. Will have surgery when they get back to Denver and his season is over. Former Wisconsin and current Denver Broncos defensive lineman Matt Henningsen tore his Achilles during training camp practice last week, ending his 2025 season. According to 9NEWS' Mike Klis, the injury occurred during a one-on-one drill during the Broncos' joint practice against the San Francisco 49ers. Head coach Sean Payton announced that Henningsen will have surgery on the tendon when the team returns to Denver, after its Saturday preseason matchup against the 49ers. Henningsen is entering his fourth NFL season, all with the Broncos. The team originally selected him in the sixth round (No. 206 overall) in the 2022 NFL draft. The former Badger played in all 17 games in both 2022 and 2023, totaling a combined 40 tackles, two for loss and two quarterback hits. He then spent the 2024 season on the team's practice squad. The defensive lineman excelled in four years as a primary contributor on Wisconsin's defensive line. Removing a 2020 season cut short due to injury, Henningsen suited up for 40 total games from 2018-21 and totaled 89 tackles, 14 for loss, eight sacks, four pass deflections, three fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns. He was a key member of a 2021 Wisconsin defense that is considered the best in program history. Henningsen's focus will now have to turn to 2026 as he looks to continue his NFL career. Wisconsin wide receiver resigns with former NFL team

The Houston Texans signed former Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus on Wednesday. The move continues a busy few seasons for the former Badger. Cephus spent parts of the 2024 campaign with the Buffalo Bills, Texans and Los Angeles Rams, though he was never able to crack any of the three teams' active rosters. He then spent a few days of the 2025 training camp with the San Francisco 49ers. He signed with the team on July 24, but was waived just days later on July 28. Cephus now returns to the Texans, where he excelled during the 2024 preseason. He joins a crowded wide receiver room as a projected fourth-string, alongside Daniel Jackson and Xavier Johnson. The room's third-string options are John Metchie III, Braxton Berrios and Xavier Hutchinson. The former Badger is looking to make his first NFL 53-man roster since he spent 2020-22 with the Detroit Lions. He turned heads as a rookie, catching 20 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns. Injuries then plagued his 2021 and 2022 campaigns, halting his early-career progress. Cephus was then released before the 2023 season after he was one of several Lions suspended for violating the NFL's gambling policy. Cephus is looking to recapture form from that 2020 campaign, as well as from his terrific 2019 season leading the Badgers' receiver corps. He finished that 2019 season with 59 receptions, 901 yards and seven touchdowns. No Wisconsin receiver has matched those yardage and touchdown totals since. Cephus' play will be worth watching as the Texans begin their preseason schedule on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings. Notably, former Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz could be the one throwing him the football. The former Badger and Florida Gator signal-caller is listed as the Texans' third-string quarterback and could see significant action. Both former Badgers will need to deliver strong preseason performances to have a chance at cracking the team's 53-man roster. Spurs' Harper, Bryant showcased generosity by volunteering in San Antonio community

San Antonio Spurs rookies Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant recently spent time volunteering by giving back and offering support in the local community. Harper and Carter were joined by second-year forward Riley Minix at Haven for Hope, a homeless shelter in San Antonio. The three players were seen behind the counter, along with several other individuals, providing food and positive interactions to those in need. The offseason period is a great chance for incoming rookies to get to know their respective markets and communities. Harper and Carter looked grateful to be asked to help the local area and appeared to make the most of their time this week. Harper debuted with the Spurs in the NBA Summer League, averaging 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal on 35.7% shooting from the field. The No. 2 pick dealt with a minor groin injury and was limited to two appearances. Bryant, the 14th pick, logged six appearances in summer league, averaging 7.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.2 assists on 28.6% shooting from the field. He wrapped up his stay with a 16-point, five-rebound performance on July 17. The two players appear to have ingratiated themselves well within the local community after joining the organization in June. They had the opportunity to give back and likely picked up some new fans along the way.
