Wisconsin wide receiver resigns with former NFL team
The move continues a busy few seasons for the former Badger. Cephus spent parts of the 2024 campaign with the Buffalo Bills, Texans and Los Angeles Rams, though he was never able to crack any of the three teams' active rosters. He then spent a few days of the 2025 training camp with the San Francisco 49ers. He signed with the team on July 24, but was waived just days later on July 28.
Cephus now returns to the Texans, where he excelled during the 2024 preseason. He joins a crowded wide receiver room as a projected fourth-string, alongside Daniel Jackson and Xavier Johnson. The room's third-string options are John Metchie III, Braxton Berrios and Xavier Hutchinson.
The former Badger is looking to make his first NFL 53-man roster since he spent 2020-22 with the Detroit Lions. He turned heads as a rookie, catching 20 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns. Injuries then plagued his 2021 and 2022 campaigns, halting his early-career progress. Cephus was then released before the 2023 season after he was one of several Lions suspended for violating the NFL's gambling policy.
Cephus is looking to recapture form from that 2020 campaign, as well as from his terrific 2019 season leading the Badgers' receiver corps. He finished that 2019 season with 59 receptions, 901 yards and seven touchdowns. No Wisconsin receiver has matched those yardage and touchdown totals since.
Cephus' play will be worth watching as the Texans begin their preseason schedule on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings. Notably, former Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz could be the one throwing him the football. The former Badger and Florida Gator signal-caller is listed as the Texans' third-string quarterback and could see significant action.
Both former Badgers will need to deliver strong preseason performances to have a chance at cracking the team's 53-man roster.

Travis Kelce Takes the Field for the 1st Game of His 13th NFL Season — Which Has a Special Connection to Girlfriend Taylor Swift
NEED TO KNOW Travis Kelce has returned to the field for the first game of his 13th NFL season The tight end and his fellow Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the 2025-2026 season with a preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, Aug. 9 Travis spent his offseason in the gym, working to get leaner and faster, and on trips with girlfriend Taylor SwiftOne half of America's favorite couple is back on the gridiron! Travis Kelce, returning from a whirlwind offseason, kicked off his 13th season in the NFL as he and the Kansas City Chiefs opened their preseason with a game against the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Ariz., on Saturday, Aug. 9. The number 13 happens to have a special connection to Travis' girlfriend, Taylor Swift. The pop superstar, whose birthday is Dec. 13, considers 13 to be her lucky number and has featured it in her song lyrics, music videos and more. The Chiefs got off to a roaring start in the game, with Jason Brownlee scoring a touchdown just minutes into the first quarter. As the wide receiver — who is playing his first season with the Chiefs — celebrated with a little dance by the end zone, several of his teammates, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Travis, 35, could be seen high-fiving him. The Chiefs shared a video of the moment on X, captioning the post, "First celly of the year." Travis spent the offseason focused on getting leaner and faster, and told reporters in May that he had dropped 25 lbs. Head coach Andy Reid noted Travis' improved fitness in a training camp press conference on July 24, saying, "He looks like he's 20. He's doing a great job. He's in great shape.' Since the Chiefs' crushing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX back in February, Travis has largely kept a low profile, focusing on workouts and occasional trips and outings with Swift, 35. Notably, he attended his annual Tight End University training camp, and Swift made a special appearance at the event. He also recorded new episodes of his podcast, New Heights, with his brother, Jason Kelce, and appeared in Happy Gilmore 2, making a cameo alongside a star-studded cast. On July 24, Travis 'hard-launched' his relationship with Swift by featuring her on his Instagram for the first time in their two years together. He wrote in the caption, "Had some adventures this offseason, kept it 💯." The Chiefs' official Instagram account shared some love, commenting on the post: "Things we love to see: travis happy 🥹❤️." Swift, who attended 10 Chiefs games in the 2024-25 season, did not appear to be in attendance at Saturday's game in Arizona. WATCH: Mike Norvell discusses FSU's second scrimmage
The Florida State Seminoles held their second scrimmage of fall camp on Sunday, and head coach Mike Norvell met with the media afterwards to break down what happened. One player who stood out was Micahi Danzy, who is moving to wide receiver after starting his career at running back. "Another guy who stood out was Micahi Danzy, who had a couple of nice plays," he said. "He showed some looseness, especially on a short pass, and had a solid run. He did some good things with those opportunities" Not only is he learning a new position, but he was also limited in the spring as he competed with the track team. However, Norvell is pleased with what he has seen from the Tallahassee native. "I think he's growing in that confidence, and we still want more from him. When he gets opportunities to go produce, he's showing up. He's done a good job," he said. Norvell also discussed how Tommy Castellanos looked, James Williams, the offensive line, and more.
