Mukesh Rishi says his army background helped him understand the world of ‘Salakaar'
The series revolves around an Indian spy who is sent on a mission to Pakistan and navigates through his professional and personal life.
Mukesh was quite impressed by the story and hence decided to come on board. He said, 'When I heard the story, I liked it. I found it very interesting. The kind of research that director Faruk Kabir had done and the level of preparation he did made me want to work with him on this project. His professionalism and overall involvement in the project drew me to it'.
Mukesh essays the role of Pakistani military dictator, Zia-ul-Haq in the series. Zia is the bedrock of most of India's problems. He was the second Pakistani dictator after General Ayub Khan. He gave a definitive form to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's plan of 'Bleed India by thousand cuts', a thousand year war declared against India for Pakistan's own interest. Later, Zia got Zulfikar Ali Bhutto framed in a case, and got the death penalty approved for him through hand-picked judges.
Talking about his role as Zia, and how he prepared for it, he said, "I tried to do some research online. Also, I have an army background and have a little knowledge of the army. So that helped me. There was a particular get-up and dress-up. And since my character is from Pakistan, we looked at the photos available online and heard them for the mannerism part'.
When asked what element of the series he enjoyed the most, he said, 'After working for so many years, I have realized that every episode of a show should be good. The story should not be long but just brief enough for the audience to enjoy it'.
"I know almost everyone; they are very capable actors, so you get to see their influence in the series. Sometimes it is not necessary how much work we have done with them; sometimes it is about how they have done their work. So I feel they all have given their best and done a good job', he added.
Produced by Sphereorigins, 'Salakaar' is available to stream on JioHotstar.

‘Never going back': Indian woman calls Eiffel Tower lunch her most ‘expensive' and ‘worst' meal
A dream lunch at the Eiffel Tower turned into a nightmare for one Indian woman, and her brutally honest review has sparked a debate online. Ishwarya, who runs the YouTube travel page Make Travel Easy with her UK-based Tamil husband, Sakthivel, recently shared a video about her expensive yet underwhelming meal at Le Jules Verne, the two-Michelin-star restaurant perched on the second floor of the iconic Paris monument. What was meant to be a luxurious foodie experience instead left her saying: 'The most expensive lunch of my life… and the worst. I'm never coming here again.' In her video, Ishwarya didn't hold back. She described the bread served as so hard it was 'impossible to chew.' The cold starter earned just 2/10, the main dish scraped a 7/10, and the dessert, 'overloaded with cream', got a dismal 1/10. Interestingly, she wasn't the only one disappointed. A senior tourist from New Zealand at the next table also struggled with the bread. When Ishwarya requested an alternative, the waiter simply shrugged. This was the only bread available. In a rather amusing twist, Ishwarya later accompanied the lady to a supermarket to buy biscuits! The review sparked a heated debate online. While many Indians sided with Ishwarya, calling it an 'overpriced tourist trap,' others defended the restaurant, pointing out that French bread is traditionally crusty and meant to be eaten with soup or dips. They suggested this might have been a cultural and culinary mismatch. A user wrote, 'European breads are supposed to be all breads are are so many different types of breads.' Another user wrote, 'You don't go to such a fine restaurant if you're not used to the French cuisine.' 'It's supposed to dip and eat in soup so it's usually hard,' the third user shared. The fourth user commented, 'It is tourist trap do you think locals will go to have lunch at eifel tower?' 'Paris is simply overrated,' the fifth wrote. Le Jules Verne isn't just about the food; it's about the experience. Sitting 125 metres above Paris, it boasts sweeping views of the city, a menu of modern French delicacies, and a wine list featuring over 430 French vintages. Signature dishes include langoustine ravioli, roasted pigeon, and intricately plated desserts. But luxury comes at a price; lunch tasting menus start at about €190 (around ₹ 17,000) per person, while dinner can set you back €255 or more, wine excluded.

Kiara Advani bagged debut film with one audition; dreams of playing Madhubala on screen
Kiara Advani has steadily carved her path in the film industry, rising to become one of Bollywood's most bankable stars. With the recent release of War 2, the sixth installment in YRF's blockbuster Spy Universe, Kiara is once again in the headlines. Starring alongside heavyweights Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, the film not only marks her entry into one of the biggest franchises in Indian cinema but also features her first-ever bikini scene, that has already gone viral. But long before the fame, big-banner films, and red carpets, Kiara's dream began at an age when most are still learning to walk. In an old interview with Good Times, Kiara recalled the moment she knew she was destined for the silver screen. 'I think I was about two when I knew this is what I wanted to do, I wanted to grow up and be an actor. I think it was because of all the Bollywood jhatka-matkas and watching Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, and Kareena Kapoor on screen that made me realize this is exactly where I want to be and what I want to do. While growing up, my parents saw that in me. No matter what I was doing — studying or taking part in extracurriculars, I'd somehow end up back in my room, turning on the TV, dancing to their songs, and enacting their scenes. Eventually, my parents said, 'You know what? Finish your graduation, then go for it. Give it a try. Live your dream.'' Kiara Advani made her Bollywood debut in 2014 with Fugly. Reflecting on how she landed the role, Kiara shared, 'It was just one audition. I remember doing it, and right there and then, my director went back, saw the tape, and said, 'You're on.' I was taken aback because I had auditioned before for other projects, and for one reason or another, they hadn't worked out. So when he said, 'You're on, and we're going to start the contract process,' I was like, 'Wow, that happened so fast!' I even asked, 'Isn't there anyone else who needs to see it or be part of this decision?' He told me it was all done, my audition had been sent to the producer, she'd loved it, and she called him the very next day. Everything happened at breakneck speed, and before I knew it, I was in workshops and ready to roll for the film.' Among them, Kareena Kapoor holds a special place in her heart. 'Personally, I love Kareena Kapoor. I think the kind of films she's done, and the fact that she's completely her own person, is so inspiring. She puts up no pretences, and that's very endearing. There's a reason she's an icon.' When asked whose biopic she'd love to portray, Kiara didn't hesitate. 'I would really like to play Madhubala. I feel like I don't know enough about her, and I want to know a lot more. If I ever got that opportunity, I'd have to research her life, and that would be exciting.' In the same candid conversation, Kiara Advani also shared what qualities she looks for in a partner. 'I think he should be very confident about who he is, self-assured, working, witty, and humorous… all those qualities we all want in a man. Some might sound a little vain, like he should smell good and have those little cute quirks about him, but most importantly, he should be real and self-assured.' Kiara added that she wouldn't mind dating someone from Bollywood, something that would prove to be prophetic. Kiara met actor Sidharth Malhotra on the sets of Shershaah, where their on-screen chemistry sparked a real-life romance. The couple tied the knot on February 7, 2023, in a traditional Hindu ceremony in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Just last month, the couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl.
