'Forgotten' Brennan's return a boost for Tyrone
Oisin McConville believes the return of Trillick's Rory Brennan to the Tyrone squad since Malachy O'Rourke arrival as manager can boost the Red Hands.
Brennan was a constant in the Tyrone panel between 2016 and 2022 and won an All-Ireland medal in 2021 although he didn't feature in the final against Mayo.
He opted out of the Tyrone squad after the 2022 season but has now returned and he came on a second-half substitute in Saturday's opening Allianz Division One League win over Derry.
"Rory Brennan was very much a forgotten player and how good he was when he was going well. It was good to see him back," McConville told The GAA Social on BBC Sounds.
The resident GAA Social contributor was also impressed by corner-back Michael McKernan's display against Derry which included notching 1-2.
McKernan has always been keen to help the Tyrone attack and McConville believes the new 3v3 rule will give the corner-back even more licence to roam forward.
"Michael McKernan will have the freedom to go forward a bit now because you know you're definitely covered at the back."
McConville added that Derry "didn't seem flustered" after losing the game.
"They are obviously still getting used to Paddy Tally. It was probably more important for Malachy O'Rourke to get that win at home.
"I was impressed with Tyrone and I wouldn't have expected anything else even though they were missing their Errigal Ciaran players.
"They looked as if they have a good bit done. It was an impressive win because they struggled in Division One last year."

Jesus Ferreira (goal, assist) leads Sounders past Austin FC
Jesus Ferreira had a goal and an assist as the Seattle Sounders returned to MLS play with a 2-0 victory against visiting Austin FC on Saturday night. Danny Musovski also scored and goalkeeper Stefan Frei made one save in posting the shutout for the Sounders (8-6-5, 29 points), who snapped a five-match losing streak in all competitions -- with three of those coming against international powers Botafogo, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup. Frei has 999 saves in his Sounders career, leaving him one shy of becoming just the second goalie in league history, behind only former Real Salt Lake standout Nick Rimando, to make 1,000 saves for a single franchise. Musovski snapped an eight-match scoreless streak in the 54th minute to give the Sounders a 2-0 lead. Ferreira sent a long lead pass to Musovski on the counterattack, with the forward dribbling the ball into the penalty area before putting a 12-yard shot through the legs of defender Oleksandr Svatok and off the inside of the left post. Ferreira opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time. The Sounders won a 50-50 ball just shy of midfield in their own end of the pitch and Albert Rusnak sent a pass down the left wing to Paul Rothrock. The midfielder drove into the penalty area before sending a cross to the far post for Ferreira, whose blistering volley from 5 yards out left All-Star goalkeeper Brad Stuver with no chance. Stuver made four saves for Austin (7-8-5, 26 points), which had a two-match winning streak snapped. The Sounders nearly took the lead in the 11th minute as Musovski put a shot from the left side of the penalty area between Stuver's legs, but the goalie got just enough of the ball that it deflected off the left post before ricocheting into the middle of the 6-yard box. Defender Guilherme Biro nearly scored an own goal on the rebound, with his attempted clearance bouncing off the same left post. Austin's lone shot on goal came after a Sounders turnover deep in their own end in the 34th minute. Brandon Vazquez's 17-yard shot was saved by a well-positioned Frei, who dropped to his knees to make the catch near the right post. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

James Harden, Clippers agree to two-year, $81.5 million deal to keep The Beard in Los Angeles
James Harden had an All-NBA season for the Clippers, carrying their offense — with Paul George on the East Coast and Kawhi Leonard hurt the first part of the season — averaging 22.8 points and 8.7 asissts a game, leading the team to 50 wins and a tie for the 3/4/5 seeds in the West (the Clippers were the fifth seed based on tie breakers and lost in the first round to Denver). Harden also had a $36.7 million player option for next season, but he is turning that down to sign a two-year, $81.5 million contract to remain with the Clippers, a story broken by Shams Charania of ESPN and quickly confirmed by others. The second year of that contract is partially guaranteed and includes a mutual option, which means that if Harden exercises the option (which seems likely), the Clippers can waive him but incur a dead cap hit for the guaranteed portion. This was expected. They needed each other and had nowhere else to turn. Harden was the heart of the Clippers' offense last season and they need him to play at that level again to be competitive next season. For Harden, there wasn't a free agent market for him (only Brooklyn would have the cap space to sign him near the price he is asking, and it is rebuilding, not looking for players who will be 36 by the start of next season). The Clippers wanted him back, but on a short-term deal. Now, Harden and Kawhi Leonard each have two years left on their contracts, as does every other rotation player on the roster, outside of Ivica Zubac, who has three years remaining. The Clippers have set themselves up for a pivot in a couple of seasons (possibly one, as they could start trying to trade players with expiring deals next summer). The Clippers have more business to do this summer: Nicolas Batum opted out of his $4.9 million player option for next season. The Clippers would like to and expect to re-sign him, but that will cost a little more than what he was going to make.

Catcher Carlos Narváez continues to contribute as bright spot during dark days for Red Sox
'He's very aware of the game, especially defensively,' said manager Alex Cora. 'Sometimes he needs to help out the pitcher, and he saw a window there against Heineman and made the throw.' Advertisement After breaking spring training as the backup to Connor Wong, Narváez overtook the starting catcher role after Wong broke his finger on April 7. Narváez has run with the opportunity, producing a Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Behind the plate, Narváez is tied for the league lead in runners caught stealing (17) and runners picked off (3), and advanced metrics grade him as one of the league's top catchers in both pitch framing and blocks. In those cleanup appearances, he's tallied 21 hits, 13 walks, and just 19 strikeouts. Advertisement Narváez's offensive numbers have not been driven by extreme hot streaks, but rather the ability to remain consistent and brush off the tougher stretches that inevitably come. After going just 3 for 24 on the recent West Coast road trip, he bounced back with two hits in Saturday's win and the home run and a walk Sunday. Carlos Narváez sliced a second-inning home run inside the Pesky Pole on Sunday. Paul Rutherford/Getty Narváez was not impervious to the team's wider issues in the series finale — namely, he grounded out to second base with two runners in scoring position to end the fifth inning — but he put together quality at-bats. 'Offensively, he's been solid,' Cora said. 'Obviously, lately, not as hot as he was early, but he still has been having good [at-bats]. The homer and the walk [Sunday], he's still going to have that for us.' Last week, Cora even alluded to the possibility of an All-Star berth for Narvaez, whose 2.4 WAR trails only the Mariners' Cal Raleigh (5.0) and the Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk (3.0) among American League catchers. All-Star or not, the Sox will need to ensure that Related : Advertisement Cora also acknowledged last week that the Red Sox would need to get both Narvaez and Connor Wong regular playing time as the season wears on. The team's offday Thursday and a Friday start for Wong resulted in the first stretch since early May where Narvaez had two full days off consecutively. He also has not caught three games in a row since For his part, Narvaez has been willing to help the club whenever his name is called, by any means necessary — and feels prepared to continue doing so. 'We're halfway through the season, and those days if I don't play, I'm trying to do all my treatment stuff like everybody does,' Narvaez said. 'But it's not a big deal, I feel great body-wise. … I'm trying to be ready every day.' Matty Wasserman can be reached at
