Delhi CM slams AAP leaders' visit to Madrasi camp, calls it

India Gazette7 hours ago

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday lashed out at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bhardwaj over their visit to the Madrasi Camp encroachment site in Jangpura, terming it a 'drama' by an 'autocratic party' aimed at misleading the people of Delhi.
'No one is touching the slums. This (AAP) is a drama party, and they are unemployed people. Their job is to mislead and deceive the people of Delhi. Whereas we are taking care of the people of Delhi in a positive way, doing overall development, following the court's orders. It is our job to provide facilities, but if someone builds a house over a drain or on a road, then this will not work. We have to take care of everyone's facilities,' she said.
Criticising AAP's governance record, Gupta remarked, 'This (AAP) is an autocratic party. What can I say about the thinking of a party that used to sit on dharna during its rule? We have to follow the Constitution, we have to run the government according to the Constitution. Our aim is to provide a permanent house to every person, but that work can be done only in a planned manner. This Delhi, which remained backward for so long after Independence, cannot be cured in 100 days. It will take years to cure it, but both our policy and intention are right.'
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj visited the Madrasi Camp in Jangpura after a demolition drive was carried out a few days ago here on the orders of the Delhi High Court.
Speaking to reporters, Saurabh Bhardwaj criticised the BJP government over their poll promises in the Delhi Assembly elections and accused them of betraying people living in JJ clusters.
On June 1, the demolition drive at Madrasi camp in Jangpura, South East Delhi, as authorities act on court orders to clear encroachments in the area along the Barapulla drain.
The operation was carried out to resolve the flooding issues caused by the narrowed drain, which obstructs water flow during heavy rains.
A total of 370 encroachments were demolished, with 189 residents deemed eligible for resettlement and allocated flats in Narela, while 181 are ineligible for resettlement. (ANI)

After Gurjar mahapanchayat, protesters block tracks in Rajasthan; 12+ trains delayed despite govt nod to 5% MBC reservation

After Gurjar mahapanchayat, protesters block tracks in Rajasthan; 12+ trains delayed despite govt nod to 5% MBC reservation JAIPUR/ALWAR: Disgruntled elements who participated in the Gurjar mahapanchayat, called by Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti convenor Vijay Bainsla in Bharatpur's Peelupura Sunday, damaged railway tracks and halted the Kota-Mathura passenger train on the busy Delhi-Mumbai line. The two-hour disruption, which had a cascading effect on the movement of over 12 trains scheduled on the line, was unleashed by an unruly group of youths after Bainsla called off the mahapanchayat following the Rajasthan govt's acceptance of the community's charter of demands, including one to include the 5% MBC reservation in the 9th Schedule. "We are happy with the govt's statement today. For the first time, the state govt has decided to approve the inclusion of the 5% MBC quota in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution in the state cabinet. Once it is approved in the state cabinet, the govt will send it to the Centre for further processing. We thank the chief minister for this," Bainsla told TOI. Angry Gurjar youths, who demanded immediate action from the govt, however, blocked the busy Delhi-Mumbai railway line for over two hours, from 4:30 pm, damaging about one km of the tracks about 150 meters away from the site of the mahapanchayat. As a result of the protests, Avadh Express that runs from Bandra Terminus to Barauni Junction in Bihar was halted at Fateh Singhpura station, while Saugor-Nizamuddin train was stopped at Sawai Madhopur station. As protests started to spread, IG Bharatpur zone, district collector, and SP arrived at the scene and persuaded the protesters to vacate the area, managing to clear the track by 6:30 pm. "The halted train departed after a team of DRM Kota repaired the tracks. All the protesters dispersed. I spoke to a few remaining protesters at the spot who have also been dispersed," said Rahul Prakash, IG Bharatpur Range. Prakash said rail movement was restored on the Delhi-Mumbai route via Karwadi-Pillu Ka Pura route on the Bayana section. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Kota division of West Central Railways (WCR), Sourabh Jain, said, "We were informed at 4:33 pm on Sunday that some people moved on to sit on the railway track between Fateh Singh Pura and Dumariya Stations near Pillu Ka Pura. The train no. 54794 Mathura-Sawaimadhopur fast passenger train was halted in the section." "In coordination with State Police and Railways, the people on the track were removed at 6:46 pm through convincing and pursual. The 54794 passenger train has departed from the halt, and other trains have also resumed on track. In the entire episode, around 10-12 trains suffered delays," he added. Sunday's mahapanchayat was called despite the Rajasthan govt, through home minister Jawahar Singh Bedam, conveying that it would address the demands raised by the community, including full benefits of 5% reservation in govt jobs and education for most backward classes (MBCs). Bainsla read out the govt draft to the community members, after which it was unanimously agreed to call off the mahapanchayat. However, several community members opposed the govt draft and decided to block the railway tracks. Following the protest, Bainsla and other committee members left the venue, after which angry youths decided to move their protests to the rail tracks.

Will delaying national census to 2027 trigger delimitation?

In the increasingly fragile centre-state relations, the national census of 2027 promises to be a Thug Life teaser. The stodgy federal system has resigned itself to the fate of a faceless clown in the circus as double-engine 'sarkars' across the country vow to power state economies. In the post-GST era, the state governments, those who do not fall in the double-engine category, continue to reel under a severe fund crunch, with no respite in sight, while others wallow in excessive central aid! Then, there is cultural, linguistic, and social hegemony that you are subject to. Regional identities and languages are under constant threat. The ASI sits indefinitely on archaeological truth dug from the past. Yet, the onus is on the state to salvage the collapsing federal structure! The big boots of central probe agencies have efficaciously stifled many a regional voice. Relentless ED, CBI, and I-T raids have stamped out many in the name of 'corruption'. Some are on a forced sabbatical; others have feigned ignorance of the lurking dangers around. MK Stalin has happily seized the opportunity to pose some uncomfortable questions. While fighting AIADMK, his party's direct political rival now in an uneasy alliance with the BJP, Stalin is vying for a return to power in 2026. Not the national census, but its delay has handed Stalin another political delicacy on a platter. What makes it intriguing is the 'deliberate deferment' of the census to 2027, a year after the 42nd Amendment's freeze, which was designed to avoid penalising states (read southern states) with effective family planning and population control, expires in 2026. Unless there is a change initiated, the Constitution demands delimitation (the process of redrawing parliamentary and assembly constituency boundaries as per population data) based on the first census after 2026.

17 years on, another bid to set the ball rolling for Jalandhar's sports hub

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is making yet another effort to revive the long-awaited sports hub at Jalandhar's Burlton Park, with chief minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal set to lay the foundation stone of the project on June 11. The project, which has remained in limbo for 17 long years, is now estimated to cost ₹77.77-crore. Facilities for outdoor & indoor games The sports hub, which is to come up on 60 acres, will include outdoor sports facilities such as cricket stadium, astroturf hockey ground and seven-side football ground (natural grass), each with separate pavilion areas. It will also have indoor sports facilities for multiple disciplines including yoga, skating, cycling and jogging. In limbo since 2008 The project was first floated by the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party combine in 2008. In 2016, the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs announced that Jalandhar will be developed as a Smart City, with the sports hub set to be one of the key projects. In 2022, just before the state assembly elections, the then Congress government had awarded the project's tender to a Chandigarh-based firm, with a completion deadline of 12 months, but it only managed to construct the boundary wall. A sum of ₹1.13-crore was also released to the company after which the MC terminated the tender. Jalandhar mayor Vaneet Dhir said the municipal corporation has re-allotted the tenders to the same company, which was assigned the project earlier. 'The project had been hanging fire due to lack of political and administrative will because of which contractors were also reluctant to work on it. In the last four months, multiple meetings were held with contractors, who were ensured that all the required logistics will be provided for the completion of the project,' said Dhir. Former AAP MP Sushil Kumar Rinku, who is presently with the BJP, said it appears to be a 'gimmick' to score brownie points. 'Both Mann and Kejriwal had promised the revive the project while campaigning for me during the 2023 Jalandhar bypoll. Exactly two years on, they are doing a formality of initiating the project,' said Rinku. He also questioned why the tender was awarded to the same company, 'which had left the project mid-way'.
