Benidorm creator has held talks with ITV about comedy return
Reports have surfaced in recent weeks suggesting that the sitcom could be returning to screens after a seven-year hiatus and the comedy writer has suggested that the prospect is real.
Addressing cast member Sherrie Hewson's recent comments about a revival, Derren said on a Facebook live: "Sherrie does this rumour every couple of years, and Sherrie says that the show is coming back, and she is not s*** stirring, she is hopeful because she loves the show as much as I do."
The TV writer added: "If I say ITV have not commissioned a new 'Benidorm' series, it is because ITV have not commissioned a new 'Benidorm' series, up to today. Does it mean they might commission a new series in the near future? Possibly.
"Have I been talking to ITV in the last few months? Yes I have.
"Have ITV commissioned a special or a series at the moment? No. Might they in the next few weeks, couple of months? Yeah they might. They might.
"So I hope that gives you some hope, and I hope that gives you some idea of where we are."
Sherrie revealed earlier last month that she would find it "wonderful" if 'Benidorm' came back as she "desperately" misses it.
The 74-year-old actress - who played the role of hotel manager Joyce Temple-Savage on the show between 2012 and 2018 – said: "There's this thing of, 'Is it coming back?', and I keep that alive. It is now a possibility and that would be wonderful because we all miss it desperately."
The comedy was axed by ITV after 10 series in 2018 and Derren seemingly ruled out the prospect of a return last year as he felt that the programme – which was filmed on location in the Spanish holiday resort - was too "expensive" to make.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "If we could all do like a one-off special, but they're so expensive. It was a very expensive show 'Benidorm', it was very lavishly produced."

Georgina Rodríguez and Cristiano Ronaldo's 'Cinderella'-Like Love Story Began in a Gucci Store
THE RUNDOWN After nearly a decade together, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez are officially engaged. Rodríguez confirmed the news on Instagram in August 2025, posting a photo of her huge oval diamond ring with the caption: 'Yes I do. In this and in all my lives.' The couple's love story started in Madrid in 2017, when Rodríguez was working as a sales assistant, and Ronaldo was already one of the most famous athletes in the world. Since then, they've navigated major career transitions, parenthood, life in multiple countries, and personal loss, building a family together along the way. Here, their relationship history in full: Rodríguez and Ronaldo first crossed paths in Madrid at a Gucci store where she worked. 'When I saw him, he was so handsome, I felt embarrassed to look at him,' Rodríguez said in a March 2023 interview on Spanish talk show El Hormiguero. 'Let's just say it was butterflies in my stomach.' In Rodríguez's Netflix reality series I Am Georgina, Ronaldo also recalled that he found her to be 'a very interesting girl, so much more mature for her age.' The pair made their first public appearance as a couple at the Best FIFA Football Awards in Zurich, attending with Ronaldo's oldest son, Cristiano Jr. Ronaldo shared their first Instagram together in spring 2017, posting a photo of them on a couch, captioned simply, '❤️.' Ronaldo confirmed the birth of their twins Eva and Mateo, delivered via surrogate. 'So happy to be able to hold the two new loves of my life 🙏🏻❤️,' he captioned a Facebook photo of him holding the baby boy and girl on June 29. Weeks later, Ronaldo confirmed Rodríguez was pregnant again. He told Spanish outlet El Mundo that he was 'very excited' to become a father again. On November 12, the couple welcomed daughter Alana Martina, their first child together. 'Alana Martina has just been born! Geo and Alana are both doing great!,' Ronaldo wrote on Instagram. 'We are all very happy! ❤️' Rodríguez later explained that she and Ronaldo each chose part of their daughter's name: 'Cristiano chose Alana, and I chose Martina,' she told ¡HOLA!, per People. 'We decided to give her both names that each of us chose. We thought it was even more special.' Engagement rumors first surfaced when Rodríguez was photographed wearing a large ring. At the time, neither addressed the speculation. Ronaldo and Rodríguez continued to share milestones as a blended family. That June, they shared a family photo from a private plane. Rodríguez captioned it in Spanish: 'Buen día con amor,' which translates to 'Good day with love.' Throughout the pandemic, the couple regularly posted updates from home. On New Year's Eve, Ronaldo reflected on the challenges of the year in a family Instagram. '2020 was not an easy year, there's no doubt about it. No one can be indifferent to the pain and suffering that COVID-19 brought upon the world,' he wrote in the caption. 'But now it's time to bounce back and show that, together, we can make a difference. Because no matter how hard is the fall, what really defines us is the way we get back on our feet and how fast we are ready to face new obstacles. So let's try to turn 2021 into a turning point, a new beginning, a fresh start. Because all of us—and I do mean all of us—can still become better versions of ourselves. And if we do it all together, that might actually be the secret to turn things around for the better. Happy New Year! And may 2021 be a year to always remember for the best reasons! 🙏🏽❤️' In October, Ronaldo and Rodríguez announced they were expecting twins again. 'Delighted to announce we are expecting twins,' Ronaldo wrote on Instagram with Rodríguez alongside a sonogram photo. 'Our hearts are full of love—we can't wait to meet you.' In December, they revealed the sexes of their babies in a family balloon-popping video that showed pink and blue confetti. 'Where life begins, and love never ends,' they captioned the post. Ronaldo and Rodríguez shared that their newborn son had passed away during childbirth. Their daughter Bella survived. 'It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the death of our baby. It is the greatest pain any parent can feel,' the couple wrote in a joint statement. 'Only the birth of our baby gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their care and support. We are devastated and ask for privacy at this difficult time. Our boy, you are our angel. We will love you forever.' Rodríguez reflected on the loss in I Am Georgina season 2. 'Over 40 million people follow me, but no one knows how I really feel,' she said in a trailer released on March 15. 'This year, I had the best and the worst moment of my life in an instant.' That same year, the family relocated to Saudi Arabia after Ronaldo signed with Al Nassr FC. 'Saudi Arabia is a country that has welcomed us with much love and open arms,' Rodríguez later shared in her June 2025 Vogue Arabia cover story. 'It's also a very family-oriented country, and I only have good words and gratitude.' Rodríguez appeared on the cover of Vogue Arabia in a candid interview conducted by Ronaldo himself. 'For me, the most important thing is you and our family,' she told him. 'Everything I do professionally revolves around your well-being. All my shoots and work commitments are organized around our family's availability. Our children always accompany me on all my trips so I can enjoy them at all times. I'm also lucky enough to be able to choose the projects I want to pursue in my career. I also choose them based on your sports schedule and the safety of our family's needs. Our family comes first.' She also shared more about first meeting Ronaldo, saying, 'I felt something inside that can't be explained, as if we had known each other all our lives. I remember that when we held hands for the first time, I felt inexplicable peace and energy. When people are in love like we are, they know what that strong connection is. That spark we had since we met has also grown and matured over time.' After eight years together, Rodríguez revealed their engagement on Instagram, debuting an oval-cut diamond ring estimated to weigh over 30 carats and be worth millions.

Meta's AI translation tool can dub your Instagram videos
Meta is bringing its AI translation tool to more users on Facebook and Instagram, which automatically dubs your reels into another language. The feature also uses AI to make its dub match up with the sound of your voice and the movement of your mouth. For now, you can only translate your reels from English to Spanish (and vice versa), similar to what Meta previewed during its Connect event last year. You can enable the tool by selecting the Translate voices with Meta AI toggle on the menu that appears before you publish a reel on Instagram and Facebook. Meta also gives you the option to add lip-syncing to your dubbed video, as well as review it before publishing. Facebook and Instagram will automatically surface translated reels to users in their preferred language. Your videos will also have a tag that discloses that it was translated using Meta AI. The translation tool is rolling out now to Facebook creators with 1,000 or more followers and all public Instagram accounts. Former Pixies Bassist Paz Lenchantin Stages Mini Perfect Circle Reunion on New Single ‘Hang Tough'
Paz Lenchantin, who played bass in the Pixies between 2014 and 2024 following stints in Zwan and A Perfect Circle, is re-launching her solo career with the upcoming LP Triste. The album arrives October 17, and she's just dropped leadoff single 'Hang Tough' along with a video. 'I had to make this record on my own,' Lenchantin says in a statement, 'not to prove anything, but just to have faith that music can nurture me back. And it did.' More from Rolling Stone How Bassist Paz Lenchantin Went From Teenage Pixies Fan to Member of the Band Watch A Perfect Circle's Creepy 'The Contrarian' Video On the Charts: J. Cole Scores Best-Selling Week of 2018 With 'KOD' Lenchantin created much of the music on Triste herself, but she did recruit two of her former Perfect Circle bandmates — drummer Josh Freese and guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen — to join her in the studio. She was also accompanied by Spanish-speaking musicians she met after posting a notice on Instagram. The album began to take shape last year in Petatlán, Mexico, when Lenchantin wrote a series of songs about a young woman falling in love with Jesus. 'Lenchantin isn't necessarily religious,' reads an official album bio, 'she saw the story as a metaphor for salvation: the human drive to search for a god, or god-like figure, and to devote yourself to something that cannot love you back…This guiding metaphor shaped the album's dream-like logic, with each lyric refracting a fragment of Lenchantin's own life into broader analogy.' 'What was special to me in making this album was that I learned who I am, this far into my journey in music, simply by allowing myself the freedom of my own choice,' Lenchantin said. 'It became like witnessing a fallen tree in my own forest, without the need to yell 'timber.'' The music is a vast departure from her work with the Pixies. She joined the alt-rock icons in 2014 after the group parted ways with bassist Kim Shattuck. 'Charles [Thompson, a.k.a. Black Francis] is the greatest artist I've ever worked with,' she told Rolling Stone in 2022 as part of our Unknown Legends interview series. 'I used to be like, 'This is missing in this band, and this is missing in this band…' But working with Charles, Joey [Santiago], and David [Lovering] really glued me together and completed me in every way I was looking for. It really is the peak of the mountain.' In 2024, after recording three albums with them and touring the world many times over, the Pixies announced that they were parting ways with her. 'My departure is a bit of a surprise to me as it is to many,' Lenchantin told Rolling Stone when the news broke, 'but it looks like they have a solid plan figured out, which in turn has pushed me to move onwards onto new projects that I am excited about.' Not long afterward, a 'major artist' asked Lenchantin if she'd join her band as a bass player. 'I froze,' she says in the album bio, stating that her past experiences in high-profile groups left her 'traumatized.' 'And how far can that get you?' she asks, noting that she turned down the gig in favor of creating Triste. 'Otherwise,' she said, 'you're just going around in a circle.'
