Nvidia's GeForce NOW adds 5K streaming with Blackwell upgrade, doubles game library, and more
dropped some serious
cloud gaming
news at Gamescom, announcing that its latest-gen
Blackwell architecture
is coming to
GeForce
NOW in what the company calls its biggest platform update ever. The upgrade brings GeForce RTX 5080-class performance to the cloud, complete with
DLSS 4
Multi-Frame Generation that can push streaming up to 5K resolution at 120 frames per second.
The rollout kicks off in September and promises to turn any device into a high-end gaming rig without bumping up membership prices. Ultimate members will get access to a 62 teraflops of compute performance and 48GB of frame buffer, while Performance tier users can still tap into the enhanced experience. Frame rates are getting a massive boost too, we're talking up to 360 fps at 1080p with response times as low as 30 milliseconds.
Gaming libraries just got a whole lot bigger
But here's where things get really interesting: GeForce NOW's game catalog is about to double to over 4,500 titles thanks to a new Install-to-Play feature. This lets members access way more of their PC game collections through cloud storage, with upcoming titles like Borderlands 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and The Outer Worlds 2 joining the lineup.

The new
Cinematic Quality Streaming
mode improves visual quality with better color accuracy, smoother streaming, and sharper graphics. NVIDIA's also expanding device support, Steam Deck users will see frame rates increase from 60 to 90 fps, while LG TV owners can stream in 4K at 120Hz with HDR.
Perhaps most intriguing is the
Discord integration
, where players can jump straight into Fortnite without any downloads or installs through a limited-time trial experience. Ultimate memberships stay at $19.99 monthly, while Performance remains $9.99, with new annual options rolling out alongside the September launch.

Louisiana PSC approves Entergy plan to power Meta AI data center with three gas plants
Louisiana's Public Service Commission has approved Entergy Louisiana 's plan to build three combined-cycle gas turbine generation facilities to power Meta's new AI data center in Richland Parish. Two plants will be built locally, while a third will be constructed at the Waterford site in St. Charles Parish. The facilities are expected to be operational in 2028 and 2029. The commission also authorized new transmission infrastructure and expedited procurement of up to 1,500 megawatts of solar energy resources. Data center scope and energy requirements Meta plans to invest $10 billion in what will become its largest data center worldwide, spanning roughly 70 football fields. Entergy estimates the turbines will generate enough capacity to meet the facility's energy needs. Industry projections show rising power demand from artificial intelligence projects is driving similar infrastructure growth across the United States. Also read: Vantage Data Centers plans $25 billion AI campus in Texas Public debate and commissioner voting The PSC vote was 4–1, with Commissioner Davante Lewis dissenting over unresolved uncertainties and concerns about rushing the decision ahead of the scheduled October timeline. Public meetings highlighted debate about transparency and the potential cost burden on ratepayers, with some commissioners arguing the project was too important to delay further. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like When the Camera Clicked at the Worst Possible Time Read More Undo Job creation and local benefits Officials project significant economic benefits from the development, including permanent jobs, construction employment, and broader growth in northeast Louisiana. The scale of the investment is expected to bring both short-term opportunities and long-term infrastructure advantages to the region. Broader context and energy implications Meta's facility is projected to consume nearly three times the annual electricity used by New Orleans, representing a major addition to Entergy's load. Critics warn that the 30-year lifespan of the gas plants could outlast Meta's 15-year power contract, leaving long-term risks for ratepayers. Nationally, similar utility-technology partnerships are reshaping the energy sector as artificial intelligence drives unprecedented demand for electricity.
