combined-cycle gas turbine
generation facilities to power Meta's new AI data center in Richland Parish. Two plants will be built locally, while a third will be constructed at the Waterford site in St. Charles Parish. The facilities are expected to be operational in 2028 and 2029. The commission also authorized new transmission infrastructure and expedited procurement of up to 1,500 megawatts of solar energy resources.
Data center scope and energy requirements
Meta plans to invest $10 billion in what will become its largest data center worldwide, spanning roughly 70 football fields. Entergy estimates the turbines will generate enough capacity to meet the facility's energy needs. Industry projections show rising power demand from artificial intelligence projects is driving similar infrastructure growth across the United States.

Public debate and commissioner voting
The PSC vote was 4–1, with Commissioner Davante Lewis dissenting over unresolved uncertainties and concerns about rushing the decision ahead of the scheduled October timeline. Public meetings highlighted debate about transparency and the potential cost burden on ratepayers, with some commissioners arguing the project was too important to delay further.

Job creation and local benefits
Officials project significant economic benefits from the development, including permanent jobs, construction employment, and broader growth in northeast Louisiana. The scale of the investment is expected to bring both short-term opportunities and long-term infrastructure advantages to the region.
Broader context and energy implications
Meta's facility is projected to consume nearly three times the annual electricity used by New Orleans, representing a major addition to Entergy's load. Critics warn that the 30-year lifespan of the gas plants could outlast Meta's 15-year power contract, leaving long-term risks for ratepayers. Nationally, similar utility-technology partnerships are reshaping the energy sector as artificial intelligence drives unprecedented demand for electricity.

Bhopal set for metro-city makeover, CM lays foundation for Rs 599 cr projects
Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Thursday said Bhopal is set to be developed into a full-fledged metropolitan city, with major infrastructure projects, new civic amenities and tourism initiatives taking shape. Speaking at a programme organised by Bhopal Municipal Corporation here, he laid the foundation stone for water supply works worth Rs 582.32 crore and 50 ward-level projects worth Rs 16.76 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 Mission. "Neighboring districts will also benefit from Bhopal's growth. To enhance regional connectivity, the western bypass is being developed, while metro train services in Bhopal are scheduled to commence by Oct 2025," he said. Tourism will also receive a boost, as Shikara rides -- similar to those on Dal Lake in Kashmir -- will be introduced on the city's famous 'Bada Tal' with support from the State Tourism Development Corporation. Alongside, grand gateways are being constructed on major city roads and a large convention center is also planned. At the BMC programme, appointment and compassionate appointment letters were distributed and sanitation workers were honored for Bhopal's outstanding performance in the 'Swachh Survekshan' 2024. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Click Here Undo Yadav further said on the occasion that it was under the visionary leadership and commitment of PM Narendra Modi to improve the lives of every Indian that Bhopal city will now ensure a clean drinking water supply to 30,000 households under AMRUT 2.0. The rapid expansion of urban development and civic amenities across India is a result of the Prime Minister's determination, making life easier for common citizens. Presently, development works are underway in 295 towns across Madhya Pradesh. He recalled that India's urban systems have been well-organised and prosperous since ancient times, with Harappa and Mohenjodaro serving as historical examples. CM Yadav further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's economy has risen to the fourth position globally. Indian democracy has earned global respect and in this democracy, local bodies hold a critical role. Whenever a new scheme is launched by the centre or the state, its implementation primarily rests with the local bodies. Historically, citizens of Bhopal have actively contributed to democratic traditions—the Bhopal merger movement after Independence being a prime example. The active role of democratic institutions and the sense of security provided by the Indian armed forces have accelerated development in all sectors including the economy. Sports and youth welfare minister Vishwas Sarang said the growth of cities is vital for the overall development of any state. Continuous urban expansion creates new employment opportunities. Yadav has rightly emphasised urban development, while PM Modi has introduced milestone welfare schemes for cities, including the Smart City Mission and Swachh Survekshan. This year, Bhopal secured second place in cleanliness rankings. Under AMRUT 2.0, water storage tanks will be constructed to address drinking water challenges and ensure a clean and reliable supply. Sarang urged citizens to contribute wholeheartedly to making Bhopal No. 1 in the next cleanliness survey. Mayor of Bhopal Malti Rai said that under AMRUT 2.0, four new filter plants and four intake wells will be constructed to meet future drinking water needs, along with a 700-km-long pipeline network supplied through 36 overhead tanks. She informed that compassionate appointment letters are being issued to the families of 31 BMC employees who passed away untimely, while appointment letters were also distributed to 24 candidates selected through direct recruitment. She added that it is due to the efforts of sanitation workers that Bhopal achieved a high ranking in cleanliness, and honoring them is everyone's responsibility. MP all set to become 'petroleum hub' The state's geological structure has shown immense potential for hydrocarbon resources such as petroleum, natural gas, and coal bed methane (CBM), CM Mohan Yadav said on Thursday. According to experts, the Gondwana basin in the eastern part of the state and the sedimentary rocks in the Narmada and Tapti valleys in the western and southern parts are highly favorable for hydrocarbons. Districts such as Shahdol, Anuppur, Umaria, Damoh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Narsinghpur, Raisen, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, and Chhindwara have been specifically identified as having significant potential for hydrocarbons and CBM gas, Yadav said. Pvt bank employee under the scanner after fraud surfaces
Bhopal: A major financial fraud surfaced after a man discovered that a bank account was fraudulently opened in his name at a private bank and used for transactions amounting to nearly Rs 4 crore. The scam came to light in Oct 2024 when he received an income tax notice for unexplained financial dealings. MP Nagar police launched an investigation following the complaint and found that the fraud was allegedly orchestrated by a former bank employee, while the then branch manager was either involved or negligent in allowing the account to be opened without proper verification. The then branch manager was already transferred. According to MP Nagar police, the victim shared his identification documents with an insurance advisor in 2021 for a health insurance policy. Instead, the documents were misused to open a bank account in Feb 2021. The account remained active, allegedly serving as a mule account for cyber fraud networks. Despite approaching the bank, the victim claimed officials delayed action for over six months and failed to provide details. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? Nagpur SROs didn't report real estate deals worth over Rs5.5k cr to I-T dept
Nagpur: The value of unreported real estate deals under the statement of financial transactions (SFT) by the property registrar's offices being probed by the Income Tax Department has crossed Rs5,500 crore. Starting with the sub-registrars' office (SRO) at Hingna, the I-T department has extended its probe to four new SROs covering areas in Nagpur city. The probe has been initiated by the Intelligence and Criminal Investigation (IC) wing of the I-T department. It was found that in a single SRO deals worth Rs2,500 crore were not reported under the SFT format, said sources. The total amount comes to over Rs5,500 crore after clubbing all the SROs covered so far, they said. Sources said the case has revealed a major loophole in the system. All the sale deeds for transactions worth Rs30 lakh and above have to be reported to the I-T department under the SFT format. The SROs engage chartered accountants who compile the information for reporting under SFT. Even if the CAs may not have passed on the entire data to the I-T department, the ultimate authority lies with the registrar office, said sources. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Click Here Undo The I-T department is now ensuring that all the data that was missed out is now reported under the SFT. Action on individuals who registered the deals may be taken up later if any discrepancy is found. The purpose of getting data under SFT is to ensure that I-T department keeps parallel information of the transactions. So, if an individual does not mention the details in the tax returns, it can still be pointed out on the basis of SFT data with the taxman, said sources.
