Spl drive: 1,062 caught for drunk driving
Hyderabad: As many as 77 offenders were convicted and jailed by the city police for drunk driving. The police had caught 1,062 for driving vehicles under influence of alcohol. The Cyberabad police nabbed 300 persons at the week-end during a special drive.
According to the Cyberabad traffic police, of total 300, two-wheeler drivers were 231, three-wheelers 8, 58 four-wheelers and three heavy vehicles. The police said 22 offenders were found with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All apprehended will be presented before the court.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police drive against drunk driving reported hundreds of offenders between April 19 and April 25 during a drive. Of the 1,062 offenders, 918 were two-wheelers, 45 three-wheelers, 98 cars and one heavy vehicle. The police said 65 offenders were found with BAC of 200 mg/100 ml and above. Thirty-two were in the 18-20 age group. The highest offenders were aged between 21-33 with 420 followed by 350 in 31-40 year age groups; 164 were 41-50 years old.
In a special drive the police found persons were engaged in both underage drinking and drunk driving. While the traffic police booked cases against them for drunk driving, the law and order police follow up and find where they bought liquor.
The police warned that people indulging in drunk driving and causing fatal accidents will be arrested and charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a maximum prison term up to 10 years along with a fine.
Meanwhile, a Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRA) Disaster Response Force truck removing unauthorised hoardings and banners at Kukatpally was hit by a vehicle attempting to evade a drunk driving check-post around midnight on Saturday. While the DRF staff was clearing hoardings near a location where traffic police were conducting checks, a vehicle driver, trying to avoid the inspection, swerved left and crashed into the stationary truck before fleeing. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle's front portion was damaged.

Acting on specific information, a trap was laid at the Vijay Ghat Bus Stand on the morning of May 8, where Alam was intercepted. A search led to the recovery of Rs 4 lakh in high-quality counterfeit currency, all in Rs 500 denomination. During interrogation, Alam disclosed that he was working for a handler based in Malda, West Bengal, and was receiving instructions from another operative. He admitted to supplying fake currency to contacts in Bihar and Delhi on multiple occasions. 'He was procuring FICN at the rate of Rs 200 for a Rs 500 note and reselling it at Rs 300,' the officer said, adding that Alam had already delivered four to five consignments in the past. Investigators suspect that the proceeds from the fake currency trade are being funnelled to purchase sophisticated arms and Bangladesh-based operatives are actively involved in smuggling FICN into India. Police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Special Cell police station. Further investigation is underway to trace and apprehend other members of the syndicate. Alam is reportedly illiterate and was lured into the trade due to his poor financial condition, police added. NIA files chargesheet against Goldy Brar, four others in Gurugram club blasts case
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against five persons, including Canada-based designated 'terrorist' Satinderjit Singh alias Goldy Brar, in connection with the 2024 twin bomb attacks at clubs in Gurugram, Haryana. The others named in the chargesheet are Sachin Taliyan, Ankit, Bhawish, and U.S.-based Randeep Singh alias Randeep Malik. The NIA has invoked provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. 'Barring Goldy Brar and Randeep Malik, all others have been arrested in the case,' the agency stated. The NIA said its probe had found the accused to be involved in the conspiracy to bomb the Warehouse Club and the Human Club, both located in Sector 29, Gurugram. The attacks were allegedly part of a broader plan by the proscribed terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) to 'spread communal disharmony and disrupt peace' in Haryana and neighbouring regions by unleashing violence. 'The attack, perpetrated by members and cadres of the proscribed BKI terror outfit, took place on December 10, 2024. NIA investigations later revealed that the deep-rooted terror conspiracy was hatched by Goldy Brar and his associates...,' the agency alleged in its statement. Bodies of woman, two sons found in Pune: family member held for murder
Two days after the bodies of a woman and her two children were found in a partially burnt condition near the Pune- Ahilyanagar Highway in Shirur taluka, the Pune Rural Police Saturday arrested her family member for allegedly murdering them. The woman identified as Swati Keshav Sonawane (25) and her sons Swaraj (2) and Viraj (1) were found murdered around 11 am on May 25 in Ranjangaon town. The arrested accused was identified as Gorakh Popat Bokhare (36), police said, adding that he was in a relationship with the woman. Police said Swati wanted to marry Gorakh, but he allegedly refused and killed her along with two sons. The accused was remanded in police custody till June 11 for further investigation. After the bodies were found on May 25, the initial probe and the autopsy revealed they were murdered before being set on fire to destroy the evidence. Accordingly, an FIR was lodged at the Ranjangaon MIDC police station under sections 103 (1), 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said on the front of the right hand of the woman, there was a tattoo of a heart shape followed by a heartbeat sign in the form of an ECG line, followed by words 'mom' and 'dad' in English. The right hand also had the words 'Jai Bhim' written in Marathi. On the back side of right hand there was a tattoo of the name 'Kartik' in Marathi, in addition to two heart signs with letters 'R' and 'S' written in those hearts and the name 'Rajratan' in English. Also, on her left hand there is a tattoo of a floral design. Seven police teams were formed to identify the deceased and their killer. There was no CCTV close to the spot where the bodies were found. But police checked videos from over 250 CCTVs from Wagholi in Pune to Rahuri in Ahilya Nagar district. Sandeep Singh Gill, Superintendent of Pune rural police, then formed 27 teams coordinated by inspector Avinash Shilimkar of local crime branch and inspector Mahadev Waghmode of Ranjangaon police station for probing this case. Information about missing persons cases was gathered from all districts and cities. Police then came across a missing woman report filed at Majalgaon police station in Beed district on May 9. Police said the description of the missing woman from Beed matched the body found at Ranjangaon. This led the police to identify the deceased woman as Swati Sonawane of Waghora village in Majalgaon, Beed. Investigation revealed that Swati had a dispute with her husband, who worked as a worker at a private place. She left her husband and went to her maternal house in Pune's Alandi along with her sons Swaraj and Viraj. Further probe revealed that Swati and her sons went along with her relative Gorakh Bokhare on a motorcycle around 9 pm on May 23 and then did not return. Police said Swati's parents working as labourers in Alandi were not aware of her location. Police then traced Gorakh, a native of Shrigonda in Ahilyanagar, currently residing at Saradwadi village in Shirur taluka. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted his involvement in the triple murder, police said. Probe revealed that Swati's sister is married to Gorakh's brother. Being family members, they knew each other. Police said when Swati and her husband had quarrels, Gorakh used to mediate and solve it. But in the meantime, Swati and Gorakh developed a relationship. Police said Swati asked Gorakh to marry her. But Gorakh was already married and had two children. So he refused to marry Swati and when she started insisting, he allegedly decided to kill her, police said. Accordingly, on May 23, he allegedly took Swati and her sons with him on a motorcycle from Alandi to Ranjangaon in the night hours. He allegedly murdered Swati and the two boys by strangulation, then stoned their faces and burnt their bodies with petrol for destroying evidence, stated a press release issued on Saturday. 'Gorakh worked as a driver on a private vehicle. He hails from Ahilyanagar, but had shifted to Shirur a few years before,' said Sandeep Singh Gill, during a press conference.
