Tension erupts as HYDRA razes illegal structures in Jubilee Hills

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed on Friday near Peddamma Temple in Road No. 41, Jubilee Hills, after the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRA) has launched a major demolition drive to clear illegal constructions along stormwater drains. On the complaint filed by the representatives of Jubilee Hills Society and residents of the area that the open drain has been encroached and illegal structures were constructed, HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath has examined this matter at the field level. On Friday, HYDRA took up demolitions of the illegal structures and razed them across an area covering more than 500 yards. HYDRA authorities identified these illegal constructions as major obstacles to proper drainage flow which increased flood risks in city during heavy rains, and conducted the demolition drive. Following the demolition, HYDRA reclaimed two acres of park land and nala land worth more than Rs 200 crore. A tenant who rented a house had occupied the land intended for government and public purposes without the knowledge of the owner. The tenant was running hotels and hostels and collecting rent of Rs 10 lakh per month. HYDRA said after notices were issued in the past, the tenant had approached the court. The court stated that the tenant had no right over those structures. The removal of structures that were encroaching on the nala and the road was taken up with the court orders. Meanwhile, HYDRA on Thursday night responded promptly to flooding in Maruthinagar, Champapet, after unseasonal rains on Wednesday night caused water to enter several homes. The flooding was triggered by a mismatch in canal sizes between the floodwater canal from Salkam Cheruvu and the narrower canal in Maruthinagar. The local box drain was both undersized and clogged with garbage, leading to overflow. HYDRA officials acted swiftly, deploying a JCB machine to clear the blockage. The floodwater is now flowing smoothly, bringing relief to residents. Ranganath visited the affected area on Thursday for a ground-level inspection. He identified the primary causes of the flooding and highlighted the need to widen the Maruthinagar canal to ensure proper flow from upstream during heavy rains. With the monsoon season approaching, the Commissioner instructed teams to remain on alert in flood-prone areas to prevent similar incidents.

HYDRA clears illegal structures from cemetery

Hyderabad: On the second consecutive day, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) removed illegal encroachments at land near Muslim and Christian burial grounds in Parvathapur, Peerzadiguda on Thursday. These religious properties have allegedly been occupied illegally, sparking concern among local communities. HYDRA removed the foundations of 15 plots, two-metre-high fences and sheds built in it, along with three shops. HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath examined the complaints received in the Prajavani programme and with the Google Maps, NRSC images and revenue records, the encroachment were removed. On Wednesday, the Commissioner conducted a site inspection, following consultations with local revenue officials who confirmed the crematoriums are owned by the government. He noted that the graves were obscured by soil and not visible. The Cemetery Protection Committee representatives informed the Commissioner of their seven-year protest, during which they have approached various authorities and courts. In response, the HYDRA Commissioner has mandated a thorough investigation into all related issues and the removal of any unauthorised structures. Following the demolition, the community expressed happiness that their seven-year battle had finally yielded results, allowing them to preserve over an acre of sacred cemetery land. With growing complaints of land encroachments and layout violations, on Wednesday, the HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath conducted on-site inspections at Ranganath Nagar in Gopanpally, Serilingampally mandal, where residents alleged that an entire layout of 850 plots spread across 184 acres was encroached upon during the Covid-19 pandemic. The inspection continued to Aravind Colony in Chengicherla and Vikas Welfare Colony in Boduppal, Medchal district. The locals accused a former MLA of attempting to claim land as temple property and blocking registration processes in a 444-plot layout. At OU Colony in Shaikpet, Ranganath addressed reports of illegal road construction. He directed all plot owners to submit ownership documents for verification and pledged strict action against violators.

HYDRA strikes at illegal structures in Peerzadiguda

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) removed encroachments made by a private school in Peerzadiguda Municipality (Medchal-Malkajgiri district). HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath had conducted a field visit to multiple locations in the municipality. Officials demolished illegal constructions at SEZ School in Medipally. According to HYDRA, the school, owned by Jashwanth Reddy, had constructed buildings by merging a 30-foot road connecting several layout plots in Yadadri Residential Colony. The road, which served as a crucial link to the Warangal Highway, had been blocked as part of the school's expansion, affecting 80 plots spread across 5.2 acres. The Yadadri Residential Welfare Association had filed a complaint with HYDRA, which conducted a field inspection and confirmed the encroachment. Acting on the grievances, Ranganath and his team undertook a detailed inspection of sites mentioned in the complaints and demolished the structures. Moreover, during his visit, he had also inspected encroached land near Muslim and Christian burial grounds in Parvathapur, Peerzadiguda. The religious properties had allegedly been occupied, sparking concern among local communities. The commissioner assured the residents, particularly from Muslim and Christian communities, that illegal structures within the occupied burial grounds would be removed within three to four days. His assurance has brought a sense of relief to locals who have been demanding action for months. On Monday during the Prajavani programme, HYDRA received 59 complaints, about 70 per cent of which were related to encroachments on public spaces, including parks, roads, and land meant for public use.
