Mayor calls for united efforts towards state's progress
Hyderabad: Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), urged everyone to unite with commitment for the development of Telangana. The Mayor, along with Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shobhan Reddy, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, unfurled the National Flag at the GHMC headquarters,on State Formation Day on Monday.
On this occasion, the Mayor conveyed her warm greetings to the citizens of Greater Hyderabad, Telangana activists, corporators, and other public representatives. 'Numerous individuals sacrificed their lives during the Telangana struggle, and on this occasion, we honour and remember them,' she said.
Vijayalakshmi urged everyone to unite with commitment towards the progress of the state and GHMC, ensuring that Telangana continues its journey of development, and that each person plays a role in the city's advancement. On this occasion, Mayor Vijayalakshmi along with Shoban Reddy and Karnan distributed PPE kits to sanitation, veterinary, and entomology workers.
Later, the Mayor briefly explained the initiatives that have been launched, and are currently in progress within GHMC, including H-Citi, SRDP, SNDP, desiltingefforts, beautification projects, water logging, community development, skill enhancement, PM Svanidhi, food safety measures, urban biodiversity initiatives, and various other programmes.
Additional Commissioners, Sneha Shabarish, Raghu Prasad, Venugopal, Subhadra Devi, Nalini Padmavati, Geetha Radhika, Yadagiri Rao, Ashok Samrat, CCP Srinivas, CE Sahadev Ratnakar, Additional CCPs Venkanna, Pradeep, EVDM Additional SP Srinivas, Chief Medical Officer Dr Padmavati, and other officers were present.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) Commissioner AV Ranganath unfurled the National flag at Buddha Bhavan on Monday. The Commissioner emphasised the importance of unity in achieving the aspirations and goals of the people of Telangana. After many dreams, we have finally attained a separate state, he said, and urged everyone to collaborate in turning those dreams into reality.
CommissionerRanganath mentioned that the state government has established HYDRA and has committed to safeguard tanks, canals, and both government and public properties. Furthermore, it has mandated that efforts be made to prevent loss of life and property during natural disasters and to provide support to the community.

BJP, MIM corporators clash over fake birth & death certificates
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) council meeting witnessed a heated exchange between AIMIM and BJP corporators over fraudulent birth and death certificates being issued in the city. The debate arose after the GHMC disclosed that it had cancelled over 23,000 fake birth and death certificates across the city, with Charminar, Falaknuma, and Mehdipatnam circles being responsible for issuing the highest number of these certificates. BJP corporators pointed out that the majority of these fake documents originated from the Karwan and Mehdipatnam constituencies, as well as Balapur in the Chandrayangutta area. They alleged that Rohingya Muslims from Pakistan and Bangladesh were allegedly using these certificates to secure Aadhaar cards and passports. However, the AIMIM strongly refuted these claims, dismissing them as baseless. MIM corporators demanded that the BJP refrain from bringing religion into the issue and asserted that both Hindus and Muslims are 'bhai-bhai. GHMC has no right to demolish if it does not give permission, say corporator and Mayor
The Wednesday's council meeting at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation witnessed some paradoxical moments, with corporators as well as Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi affirming that the corporation should not go ahead with demolition of unauthorised constructions. The debate was kicked off by BRS corporators who demanded action against absentee member Baba Fasiuddin reportedly for abetting suicide of a BRS leader in Borabanda. The deceased leader who fell to his death from his unauthorisedly constructed home in SRT Nagar area, was alleged to have been harassed by who strongly denied the charge. The GHMC had reportedly issued notices to the leader over unauthorised construction, which, the BRS leaders allege was done at the behest of Mr. Fasiuddin. In connection with this, corporator Dedeepya Rao questioned why notarised documents are not accepted for according building permissions. While there were over 200 houses built illegally with ground plus five floors, only the BRS leader was targeted with threats of demolition. Chief City Planner K. Srinivas tried to reason that as per the GHMC Act, 1955, sale deed is a mandatory requirement for issue of building permissions, and that notary documents are not accepted as proof of ownership. Bansilalpet corporator Hemalatha Laxmipathi, at this juncture, came up with the argument that if GHMC would not accord permission on the basis of notarised documents, it did not have the right to bring down the structure, which defied all the rationale of the Act. Mayor Ms. Vijayalakshmi, without much thought, endorsed the argument, and repeated the statement, much to the amusement of officials and other corporators. One more issue was raised during the meeting, about encroachment of seven acres of government land in Uppal, which is being constructed upon, based on the permission obtained on a different survey number. Commissioner R.V. Karnan said the permission was given based on a favourable report by the District Collector in 2021. Later, notices were issued, and the builder approached the court.
