Every year, thousands of devotees from across Maharashtra in India and beyond embark on a spiritual journey which is unlike any other. Called the Pandharpur Wari, it is a centuries-old pilgrimage in honour of Lord Vitthal, who is a revered form of Lord Vishnu.
This deeply spiritual tradition is not just a walk— it is an emotion for many devotees with a deep cultural and devotional meaning.
The Wari begins from the towns of Dehu and Alandi, that are homes of two legendary saints— Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, respectively. The pilgrimage culminates in the sacred town of Pandharpur, on the auspicious day of Ashadhi Ekadashi; which falls on July 6 this year.
What is Pandharpur Wari?
Pandharpur Wari is a grand procession of faith, where Warkaris (i.e. devotees) walk for nearly 20 days, covering over 250 kilometres on foot. Along the way, they sing abhangas (devotional songs), perform kirtans, and immerse themselves in spiritual reflection.

IRCTC Q1 Results: PAT rises 8% YoY to Rs 331 crore
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on Tuesday reported a 8% year-on-year (YoY) rise in its consolidated net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, at Rs 331 crore, compared to Rs 308 crore in the same quarter last year. Sequentially, net profit was down from Rs 358 crore in the March 2025 quarter. Revenue from operations for the quarter stood at Rs 1,160 crore, up 3% from Rs 1,117 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, but lower than Rs 1,268.53 crore in the March 2025 quarter. The growth was supported by higher contributions from the catering and internet ticketing segments. The influencer, who was visiting the capital for work, shared a two-part ordeal involving drivers from two popular ride-hailing platforms– Rapido and Uber , which she described as 'traumatic' and unsettling. Her experience, documented in a short video shared on Instagram, has since gained attention online, reigniting conversations around how secure the national capital truly is for women travellers. Argument over air conditioning escalates during Rapido ride According to her account, the first issue occurred soon after she landed at Delhi Airport. She booked a Rapido cab for a ride to Noida and requested the driver to switch on the air conditioner. The driver, however, allegedly refused– leading to a verbal exchange. Quoting the driver, she said: 'It will be turned on at my own choice. If you need air conditioning so badly, get another cab.' After the confrontation, she approached Rapido's help desk at the airport to report the incident. While the support team responded politely, she decided not to proceed with the ride and opted for another cab through Uber. Uber ride raises privacy concerns The next ride turned out to be even more concerning. This is not the kind of service we aim to provide. Kindly share your registered mobile number and ride ID via DM so that we can assist you further.' Online reactions: 'Never let your guard down' The video has led to a wave of reactions online, particularly from women who echoed similar experiences or shared their own safety strategies while using cabs. One user wrote: 'Girls DO NOT DO NOT NEVER EVER SLEEP IN A CAB! Another comment read: 'Sleeping in a cab is the last thing I would ever do in my life. At the same time, how sad it is to address a woman's safety.'
