Cambridge Audio Refines Its Melomania P100 SE Wireless Headphones With New Features
Cambridge has decided to update its first pair of wireless ANC headphones with the announcement of the Melomania P100 Special Edition. The new headphones build on the success of the original P100 and this second-generation has new tuning with a more powerful and immersive playback. The bass frequencies have also been tweaked to make the dynamics of the overall sound more refined.
Improvements have been made while preserving the transparent and emotive sound of the original P100 that so many people seemed to love. Described as an evolution, the new P100 SE feature Cambridge's proprietary DynamEQ technology, which is designed to ensure details stay intact and balanced even when playing at low volumes.
Other new features include a more-cushioned headband for extra comfort during long listening sessions. The new version also sees the addition of a bold Blue colorway with a fresh and stylish look alongside the original Black and White finishes. The other visible change sees the P100 SE sporting the new Cambridge logo and branding, which first appeared on the new Melomania A100 true wireless earphones.
Signature Sound Evolved
These new P100 SE headphones have a custom 40mm composite driver with a three-layers diaphragm and neodymium magnets. The amplification is Class AB rather than the more usual Class D, which is the same amplification technology used in Cambridge's award-winning CX Series of hi-fi amplifiers. The company says the result is rich and detailed audio with deep bass, clear mids and crisp highs.
For those with compatible Android devices, the P100 SE also support Qualcomm's Snapdragon Sound platform and the aptX Lossless codec which provides CD-quality playback over Bluetooth with no lossy compression. There are also three levels of Active Noise Cancellation that enables users to tailor listening to their environment, whether that's on a flight, commuting on a train or working from home.
Customized Listening
Out of the box, the P100 SE produce the classic Cambridge signature sound that's both transparent and natural. The designers say they want to take listeners closer to the music without distorting it. However, everyone has different tastes for how they perceive music. The P100 SE offer an array of options to help the user find the sound that best suits them.
The Melomania Connect app has also been revamped so that users can sculpt the sound of the headphones to suit their favorite genre of music. There are six EQ presets or the user can tweak the sound manually to a precise degree using a detailed seven-band EQ.
Cambridge has also developed something it calls DynamEQ technology. This aims to keep the music balanced even at lower volumes by subtly adjusting bass and treble levels throughout the entire volume curve. P100 SE ensure that each track sounds full and natural at any volume level.
The P100 SE also have a low-latency gaming mode which reduces the delay over Bluetooth to just 80ms. In practise, this means the listener can experience near-perfect screen and sound syncing when playing the latest games or watching movies.
Long Battery Life
A full charge of the Cambridge Melomania P100 SE can provide up to 60 hours of playing time with the ANC turned on. Switch the ANC off and the headphones can play on for up to 100 hours. There's also a fast-charge function that can turn a five-minute burst charge into two hours of playing time with ANC enabled.
The reengineered headband on the P100 SE has been designed to provide greater comfort and to suit every head shape. Cambridge says the clamping force has also been calibrated for long-term comfort for the largest range of head sizes.
As part of Cambridge Audio's commitment to sustainability, the P100 SE is made using 50% recycled plastic and the headphones ship in plastic-free and recyclable packaging. Both the batteries and ear cushions can be replaced by the user, which means the headphones should have a potentially longer life before they need to be recycled.
The Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 SE ANC wireless headphones are available on August 1, 2025, from cambridgeaudio.com or Amazon with a price of $299 / £249 / €279. The headphones are available in Blue, White or Black finishes.

New food store could open in building near Bradford City's grounds
A BUILDING in the shadow of Bradford City's Valley Parade ground could become a food store and butcher's if new plans are approved. The former Dewhirst Coaches building on Thornciffe Road has been vacant since the transport company shut several years ago. The new planning application would see the building converted into retail use, and says the development would create jobs as well as boost the local economy. The plans have recently been submitted to Bradford Council by Shanjid Ali. As well as the change of use of the shop, the application calls for a new canopy on the existing building, illuminated signage and three external refrigerated units. The building is just yards from Bradford City's ground and the area is often heaving with football fans on matchdays. The application says: 'The site comprises a substantial open yard that facilitated turning circles and manoeuvring for large vehicles. 'The building's former use as a storage facility makes it inherently suitable for commercial retail. 'Currently many vehicles are parked within the site from the previous use and will be removed if planning is granted.' Referring to the new retail use, the application says: 'The premises will cater to walk-in customers and local suppliers, offering chilled, frozen, and ambient food goods. 'The retail premises will operate seven days a week, between 9am and 8pm. The business will employ seven full-time members of staff. 'This (application) represents a direct contribution to the local economy and introduces employment opportunities to an otherwise inactive commercial site. 'By reintroducing viable uses to a currently underutilised site, the redevelopment will support economic regeneration.' The proposed store would have 16 parking spaces. A decision on the application is expected next month. Earlier this year an application for another major scheme on the same road – opposite the site of the food store plan – was approved by Bradford Council. Cake Box, a food company that has a base on Thorncliffe Road, had applied for permission to build new warehouse space on land next to its Manningham base. The site was the former home of Adams Fast Food Supplies until that building was destroyed in a blaze caused by a faulty electric appliance in 2021. The application for the warehouse said the company's expansion would be 'a significant capital investment in the area to secure the long-term future from an established company that is looking to expand its operation". Planners approved that application this Spring.

Glenfiddich and the Balvenie's Parent Company Reports a Nearly 30% Profit Drop in 2024
It seems that tough times continues to hound the spirits industry, and scotch whisky is one category that is feeling the pain. Late last week, the family-owned company William Grant & Sons (owner of major whisky distilleries Glenfiddich and the Balvenie, as well as Milagro Tequila and Sailor Jerry Rum) reported a significant decrease in profits by nearly 30 percent in 2024. It remains to be seen how this year will play out, but that's a lot of ground to make up. According to a recent article in The Herald, WGS, which is owned by the billionaire Grant family, reported that its profits dropped by about a third in the year ending in December of 2024, and revenue was down by 6.5 percent. 'In a year marked by industry-wide challenges, the decline in revenue compared to 2023 is in line with market trends, including the continuation of significant destocking,' said a rep for the company in a statement. 'Despite these significant headwinds, William Grant & Sons maintained its commitment to quality and innovation. This was demonstrated by the announcement of Glenfiddich's multi-year partnership with the Aston Martin Formula One team in November 2024, bringing together two brands renowned for their heritage, innovation, and pursuit of excellence.' Mansion Despite these challenges, Glenfiddich and the Balvenie remain in the list of top five best-selling single malts (rounded out by the Macallan, the Glenlivet, and Glenmorangie). And WGS completed the purchase of Naked Malt and the Famous Grouse this month; the latter is the best-selling blended scotch in the U.K., so presumably that will help sales figures. On the other hand, the company decided to partially pause production at its Tullamore D.E.W. distillery in Ireland this past spring, part of an ongoing trend in the whisky industry. (The company said production will resume this summer.) Of course, we are only halfway through 2025, so it remains to be seen whether these losses will continue or the course will be reversed, although the recent negotiation between the Trump administration and the E.U. resulting in a 15 percent tariff likely won't help. In the U.K., politicians are pressing him to ease the current 10 percent tariff on scotch that has been levied against the industry to the tune of about £4 million per week, according to the Independent. The situation remains fluid, but we will report back with any significant updates.
