KPDN Uncovers Tactic Of Modifying Vessel Tank To Misappropriate Subsidised Diesel
Perak KPDN director Datuk Kamalluddin Ismail said this followed a raid conducted at 10.30 am yesterday, during which a team of enforcement officers from the Perak KPDN Manjung Branch seized 50,900 litres of liquid believed to be diesel, along with other equipment, with an estimated total value of RM355,040, at a premises in Pantai Remis.
'Based on inspections and intelligence gathered, the syndicate's modus operandi involved modifying the ship's original fuel tank, which is limited to 3,000 litres, by adding an extra tank capable of storing 7,000 litres,' he said in a statement today.
Kamalluddin said the subsidised diesel was believed to have been purchased using the fuel quota of another vessel at a controlled price before being resold to industries in Pantai Remis.
At the time of the raid, he said, a ship was caught transferring diesel from its tank to a skid tank using a hose and suction pump.
He said the skid tank functioned as a storage facility for unsubsidised diesel and suspected to have been used as a collection point for diesel obtained through the syndicate's fraudulent activities.
'Authorities also discovered purchase and sale documents, along with quota cards belonging to other vessels, believed to have been used in this scheme,' he said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the premises held a valid permit to store scheduled controlled goods, namely unsubsidised diesel, with an approved storage capacity of 58,000 litres, intended for use by category C2 fishing vessels.
Following the raid, a 32-year-old local man, who claimed to be the owner of the premises, was arrested. Additionally, a drifting trawler and diesel suction equipment were seized for further investigation.

Bullying, even online, is now a crime, says Azalina
PUTRAJAYA: Bullying, harassment, insults and identity misuse, even online, are now crimes under amendments to the Penal Code. The amendments were introduced to the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 (Act A1750), which was approved by the King on Feb 25 this year and gazetted on March 7. 'It introduces new sections, 507B to 507G, specifically to address bullying by any means and methods, including online,' Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pic) said. 'These amendments provide for offences related to harassment, threats, bullying, insults and misuse of identity information, including situations that may lead to suicide attempts as well as cases where the provoked person attempts or commits suicide,' she said in a statement here today. Azalina told Bernama that offenders could be jailed up to 10 years, fined, or both. 'It is the responsibility of every citizen to comply with these laws,' she said. 'Keep in mind that ignorance of the law is not an excuse. 'A clear understanding of one's rights and responsibilities under the law is the first step towards building a safer, more ethical and humane society,' she added. Azalina advised the public to obtain information directly from the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department or the Legal Aid Department for clarification on the amendments.

Thai woman nabbed after two days of illicit work
IPOH: A Thai woman's plan to make money through illegal means was cut short when she was arrested by the Immigration Department for allegedly abusing her social visit pass to work at a massage parlour. The 25-year-old claimed she had arrived in Malaysia a few days ago, crossing the border by bus from Bangkok via Hatyai. She said she had so far earned about RM100 in commissions, RM50 each from two customers, over two days. When asked about the services provided, she alleged that the RM110 package paid at the counter included massage services and oral sex. She was among three Thai nationals detained during an Ops Gegar raid carried out jointly by the Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Immigration offices on Sunday night at a massage parlour in Tambun, Bernama reported. At a press conference, Perak Immigration director Datuk James Lee said 54 foreign women were detained during simultaneous raids at 13 locations across Ipoh. The suspects, aged between 20 and 35, comprised 48 Thai nationals, two Indonesians and four Vietnamese. They are being investigated for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963.
