Perak KPDN seizes 432 subsidised LPG cylinders at Manjung farm

PERAK: The Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 432 subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders during a raid at a chicken farm in Segari, Manjung. The operation, conducted yesterday, uncovered unauthorised use of the gas for heating chicken coops. Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, Perak KPDN director, led the raid under Op Gasak 2025 following a week of surveillance. 'We found 432 subsidised LPG cylinders of various brands being misused for business purposes without a permit,' he said. A lorry belonging to an LPG supplier was also caught unloading cylinders at the site. Two men, aged 50 and 40, were detained—the farm manager and the lorry driver. Authorities confiscated the LPG cylinders, a five-tonne lorry, receipt books, and related documents worth RM76,051. The farm owner faces charges under the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 for storing controlled goods without a permit. The LPG supplier is also under investigation for selling subsidised gas to unauthorised parties. - Bernama

PJRM Offers Relief To Budget-conscious Households

GENERAL By Mohamad Harith Mohamad Nizar IPOH, June 24 (Bernama) -- What began as a simple sales initiative has since taken on greater significance, the MADANI Rahmah Sales Programme (PJRM) now offers consistent savings and helps ease the financial burden of thousands of households, especially those with tighter budgets. From housewives to small-scale traders, many in Ipoh eagerly await PJRM's weekly visits — a reliable source of savings on everyday items. For housewife R. Vijaya, 63, keeping up with the latest PJRM updates on TikTok is a routine, allowing her to track the dates, locations and times of the sales so as not to miss the chance to purchase essentials at lower prices. 'My husband, who sells putu mayam earns between RM1,000 and RM2,000 a month. So we really need to spend wisely,' she told Bernama when met at the PJRM held at DR Seenivasagam Recreational Park here. Vijaya shared that she and her husband, R. Raju, 66, usually spend about RM600 a month on groceries and never miss PJRM events, especially those held near their home in Silibin. 'If there's a PJRM, I'll definitely try to go. My friends also inform me if there's one nearby,' she said, adding that they could save up to RM50 each time by buying items such as cooking oil, rice, eggs and bread. Meanwhile, food vendor Kamarulzaman Mohammad Yunus, 51, said he frequently follows PJRM updates on the Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Facebook page. 'I try to attend PJRM at least twice a month to buy cheaper groceries compared to market prices,' he said.

Lorry owner fined RM100,000 for possessing unlicensed diesel

IPOH: A local man was fined RM100,000 by the Kuala Kangsar Sessions Court today for possession of unlicensed controlled goods (diesel) under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. The Perak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), in a statement, said that Ong Seow Hooi, 49, owner of a tanker lorry, was accused of committing the offence at Jalan Puncak Bougainvillea, Kuala Kangsar, at 2.45 am on Jan 6, 2024. 'The accused was arrested along with a modified lorry containing 4,432 litres of diesel stored in an intermediate bulk container, which raised reasonable suspicion that he was trading scheduled goods, in this case, diesel, through wholesale or retail transactions without a valid licence. 'The accused pleaded guilty after the charge was read before Judge Rohaida Ishak,' read the statement. Prosecuting officer Mohamed Nizam Mohamed Yunan led the prosecution. Ong, who paid the fine in full, would have faced up to 12 months in prison if he had failed to pay the fine.
