Delhi Chief Minister adds more wheels to public bus fleet
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the Delhi Transport Corporation's (DTC) biggest bus terminus in north-west Delhi, in Narela Sector A-9, on Friday. She also flagged off 105 new Delhi Electric Vehicle interconnector (DEVi) buses at the depot.
She said that the transport hub will boost public transport in north-west Delhi by connecting it with several other public transport hubs in the city and termed it a 'testament to the Delhi government's commitment to strengthening public transport and building a cleaner, greener, and more connected Capital'.
Currently, over 2,000 electric buses are operational in Delhi, and the government is actively working towards achieving 100% electrification of the entire transport system by 2027, she said, adding that many of the new DEVi buses will be driven by women.
Ms. Gupta also attacked the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing it of corruption and of pushing the public transporter into huge losses.
'Buses are Delhi's lifeline. But under the previous government, routes were cut, buses reduced, and corruption was committed,' she said. Citing a Comptroller and Auditor General report, which was tabled in the Assembly in March this year, on the functioning of the DTC under AAP's tenure, the CM said that the public transporter's liabilities had bumped up from ₹28,263 crore in 2015-16 to ₹65,274 crore in 2021-22.
She alleged that the AAP government's 'pink tickets' scheme, which allowed women to travel on buses free of cost, was marred by corruption and that the panic buttons were installed 'just for show'.
The Opposition party did not issue a response to the allegations levelled by the CM.
Built in 90 days
In her address following the inauguration in Narela, the CM said, 'The depot was constructed in 90 days, reflecting the government's efficiency and dedication.'
She added that the 'modern transport hub', built for ₹2.63 crore and developed over 4,000 sqm of land, has a pantry, medical facilities, clean toilets, RO water plants, and EV charging stations, among other amenities.
'It will be a hub for 75 buses, most of which will be electric, connecting north-east Delhi with other transport hubs, such as the Old Delhi railway station and Mori Gate,' said Ms. Gupta.
The nine-metre low-floor, air-conditioned, wheelchair-friendly DEVi buses are equipped with panic buttons, CCTV cameras, and real-time tracking features.

Arora is the chairperson and managing director of Ritesh Properties and Industries Ltd. , a group of 18 firms with offices across India. Though he started out as a garment manufacturer in Ludhiana, he is now involved in real estate, housing, and industrial and commercial sectors. Sources said Kejriwal could entrust him with the industries portfolio. Kejriwal warns BJP govt in Delhi may fall if slum demolitions continue
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday warned that the Rekha Gupta-led BJP government in Delhi would not last even three years if slum demolitions continue, as he called for a mass movement against the drive from Jantar Mantar. The AAP organised a massive protest at the site under the banner of the 'Ghar-Rozgaar Bachao' movement. Senior party leader Gopal Rai challenged that if demolitions continue, people will take over the Prime Minister's residence. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva claimed that the AAP-organised rally "completely failed." "The announcement of an attack on the Prime Minister's residence has once again revealed the dark, Naxalite-like faces of Kejriwal and Gopal Rai and they should understand that there is no place for their words in civil society," he added. Addressing a gathering of people, many of whom have lived under the threat of eviction for the past five months, Kejriwal alleged that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks of 'Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan' in reality, his government's approach translates to 'Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Maidan'. "Don't trust PM Modi's guarantees they are counterfeit, hollow lies," he added. Hitting out at the Delhi government, he said it has only been five months since the BJP government was formed, and "look at what they've done to Delhi already". "In just five months, they have pushed the city to such a state that people from across Delhi have been forced to gather at Jantar Mantar today to protest against them," he added. Recalling Delhi's political history, Kejriwal said, "From this same Jantar Mantar, the Anna movement began, and it wiped Congress off the map. "I had even told you that if they come to power, they will demolish your jhuggis within a year, but I never imagined that they would wreck the entire city in just five months," he said. "We left behind a smoothly running Delhi in February a city with 24x7 electricity. Now, the entire city faces power cuts," he emphasised and added that the government would even stop providing free electricity within a year. Pointing to the collapse of civic infrastructure, the AAP chief said in just one rainfall a few days ago, Delhi turned into a drain. Kejriwal, who first became CM after defeating Sheila Dikshit in 2013, also attacked Congress. "These people have completely ruined Delhi just like during Congress rule. You all remember how, before our government, Delhi suffered endless power cuts. Electricity was extremely expensive," he said. Kejriwal said that it took BJP 25 years to come to power in Delhi, and "even after coming to power, they've done nothing but abuse and spread lies. Delhi CM offers prayers at Bankebihari temple in Vrindavan, performes Govardhan Parikrama
Mathura, June 29 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Bankebihari temple in Vrindavan, along with her family members, today. The Chief Minister also performed Govardhan Parikrama. Ms Gupta reached the Bankebihari temple in the morning, where she worshipped Thakurji and wished for peace. The temple priests accorded a grand welcome to Ms Gupta by presenting her Prasadi Patka and garland and offered her prasad of Thakurji. On this occasion, the visiting Chief Minister said that today she has received blessings of Bankebihari. Earlier, the Delhi CM reached the foothills of Govardhan in Mathura and performed the Saptoksi Parikrama of the Lord Girirajji. After the worship of Giriraj Prabhu at Danaghati temple, she started Giriraj ji's the 21-km-long 'parikrama'. She said that Giriraj ji's 'parikrama' gives peace to the soul and energy to the mind.
