Is Google Messages crashing for you? You're not alone.
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR Some Google Messages users report that they're unable to open the app as it keeps crashing. Affected users say they can only reply to a text if someone messages them first or if they go into their contacts menu. One workaround is to uninstall the latest Messages update and then reinstall it. Google Messages is the built-in messaging platform for millions of users worldwide. Unfortunately, some users are experiencing a rather serious issue with the app. Some Google Messages users on Reddit (h/t: 9to5Google) report that the app keeps crashing. Affected users noted that they couldn't open the Google Messages app (version dynamic) without it crashing. 'I can reply to texts via notification and bubble, but if I open the app itself, everything crashes,' said user @snuggle92. 'I literally can't use my text messages unless someone texts me first or I go into my contacts and it's so frustrating because I refuse to use the Samsung messaging app!' said user @gabbydawn26. The issue isn't restricted to a specific carrier or device manufacturer, either. Google Pixel, Samsung, and Motorola users on Fido, Google Fi, T-Mobile, and Verizon have all chimed in to report the problem. One user noted that they fixed the issue by installing the beta version of the app, leaving the beta program, and then returning to the regular version. However, other users said this didn't address the problem. Users also said that clearing the app's cache didn't work. However, some people report that they fixed the problem by uninstalling the latest Messages update and then reinstalling it. So it's definitely worth trying the latter workaround if you're one of the affected users. In any event, we've asked Google to clarify the issue and if there's a timeline for a fix. We'll update the article if/when the company gets back to us. Follow

Why is Trump calling on the CEO of Intel to resign?
President Trump called on Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to resign on Thursday, prompting a slide in the technology company's stock. "The CEO of Intel is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately," Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social, without providing additional details. "There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!" Intel did not immediately respond to CBS MoneyWatch's request for comment. Its shares slipped 64 cents, or 3%, to $19.77 on Thursday. The president's call for Tan's resignation comes after Sen. Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, sent a letter to Intel Chairman Frank Yeary on Tuesday expressing concern over Tan's investments and ties to Chinese businesses. "Mr. Tan reportedly controls dozens of Chinese companies and has a stake in hundreds of Chinese advanced-manufacturing and chip firms," Cotton wrote in the letter. "At least eight of these companies reportedly have ties to the Chinese People's Liberation Army." Cotton went on to mention Cadence Design Systems, the multinational tech company where Tan served as CEO from 2009 to 2021, and which pleaded guilty last week to unlawfully exporting its products to a Chinese military university and transferring its technology to an associated Chinese semiconductor company without obtaining licenses. "These illegal activities occurred under Mr. Tan's tenure," Cotton wrote. The senator asked Yeary to respond to a series of questions on Tan's ties to the Chinese companies by Aug. 15. Tan, a technology investor and veteran of the semiconductor industry, was appointed as CEO of Intel in March. AI can do your writing, but not your thinking
As a partner at Theory Ventures, a VC firm built around deep technology and market research, I spend my days swimming in information: academic papers, market reports, interview notes, and written analyses. Our job is to synthesize these data points into a nuanced perspective to inform our investment decisions. Reading the hype online, it's tempting to think you can just delegate anything to AI. But for something so critical to our job, we don't just want it done, we need it to be excellent. How much can AI really do for us? In this piece, I will share: How we structure instructions to get the best analysis out of an AI model Where I critically intervene and rely on my own thoughts How you can get an AI to mirror the way you write When relying on an LLM you often get something that only seems good at first glance: often the AI has missed details, or an important nuance. And for this core part of my job, decent isn't enough—I need output to be excellent.
