FREESTYLE DIGITAL MEDIA RELEASES DRAMEDY 'POMEGRANATE'
'POMEGRANATE is a window into the lives of Middle Easterners, especially women, who've been confined to stereotypes. Understanding these lives opens the door to a more connected, compassionate world.' — Filmmaker Weam Namou
LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, March 4, 2025 / EINPresswire.com / -- Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen's Allen Media Group, has just released the culture clash dramedy POMEGRANATE, which is now available to rent/own on all global digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms, as well as on DVD, starting March 4, 2025. The March release date coincides with both Women's History Month and with International Women's Day (March 8th).
Set during the U.S. presidential election season of 2016, POMEGRANATE tells the story of a young, liberal, Iraqi Muslim refugee who struggles to find her footing in a neighborhood of well-to-do, conservative Chaldeans (Iraqi Christians). Niran, age 20 is a politically liberal Muslim who wears fashionable hijabs, tight clothes, and lives with her family in a predominately Christian Iraqi suburb of Detroit, Michigan nicknamed 'Little Baghdad.' Directly across the street lives her nemesis, Mary, a politically conservative Christian who has a statue of the Virgin Mary in her front yard next to a large 'Make America Great Again' sign. Niran struggles with her identity while battling her family's fears of deprivation and demands of loyalty to Muslim traditions. Inspired by her idol Enheduanna, the first recorded writer in history and famed priestess of Ancient Mesopotamia, Niran navigates societal challenges, fights against cultural stereotypes, and most of all, aims to make her voice heard by all around her. With a desire to study, work, and love, Niran rediscovers her purpose in life. But surrounded by strong, opinionated women, can she live up to their expectations while meeting her own?
The first Iraqi-American narrative film led by a creative team from the community being portrayed, POMEGRANATE was written and directed by an Iraqi woman, Weam Namou. POMEGRANATE, which has won over 30 international film awards, was produced by Sam Sako and executive produced by Scott Rosenfelt (HOME ALONE, MYSTIC PIZZA). The cast features Sam Rahmani ('Niran'), Zain Shami ('Hassina'), Ismail Taher ('Ali'), Natally Boutros ('Mary'), Lamar Babi ('Matthew'), Basim Alameen ('Sermad'), Amanda Kashat ('Nisreen'), and Jordyn Kashat ('Fatima').

'POMEGRANATE is more than a movie, it's a window into the authentic lives of Middle Easterners, especially women, who have long been confined to stereotypes,' said filmmaker Weam Namou. 'By understanding the beauty, struggles, and resilience of these lives, we open the door to a more connected, compassionate world.'
Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire POMEGRANATE directly with the filmmakers and Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films.

Cope and Christian are finally back on the same page, and will team up with each other at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door. Alexi Lalas Responds to Christian Pulisic, Tim Weah: 'I Don't Feel Evil'
United States Alexi Lalas Responds to Christian Pulisic, Tim Weah: 'I Don't Feel Evil' Published Aug. 15, 2025 1:31 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link We are evil, but you respect us? That makes no sense at all. Let me set this all up. On the latest episode of the "Pulisic" series on Paramount+, Christian Pulisic (along with Tim Weah and Christian's father, Mark Pulisic) talked about criticism and comments made by former USMNT players-turned-pundits. Like myself. Here's what Christian said: "I'd say the most annoying thing, and for me, the biggest cop-out of all time, is when all the pundits want to say: 'They didn't want it. They didn't have the heart. You know, back in our day, we would fight, and we would die on that field.'" And what Weah said: "I think those guys are chasing clicks, and for me, I just feel like they're really evil, honestly, because they've been players, and they know what it's like when you're getting bashed. Those are the same guys that will turn around and shake your hand and try to be friendly with you at the end of the day. Don't get me wrong, I respect all of them. They were players I looked up to, but quite frankly, the guys before didn't win anything either." ADVERTISEMENT And then what Mark Pulisic said: "These guys want clicks on social media and subscribe to [their] channels, listen to [their] podcasts or whatever. I think they should look in the mirror and look at their last performances for the national team before they start talking s---." First and foremost, if you're going to accuse people of doing things for clicks and for attention or to watch a show, well played. That's exactly what you just did, and it's exactly what happened. A few things, though, about the comments. Number one: We are evil? That's a whole other level. I don't feel evil. I don't think that I am, and I don't think that any of the other guys that you may have been referring to are evil in our criticism. But if they were, I sure as hell wouldn't respect them. The "Pulisic" clip showed Landon Donovan, a USMNT legend who has shared his thoughts about the current team. Well, Donovan was part of the best U.S. World Cup team in history – they were a possible handball away from going to a semifinal in 2002. He also has a statue outside the LA Galaxy's stadium. So, Donovan surely has done a lot more than any of these players have ever done with the team. Also, don't bring your dad to a fight. I get that Mark Pulisic, like other dads out there, has been involved directly in bringing up, in this case, Christian. I get that he's a former coach. But who brings their dad to a fight? If you're angry at me or Landon or anybody else that is being critical of you, that's fine. You have a platform, you have a microphone – some would say bigger than anybody else out there – to get that off your chest, but you don't need to bring your dad. Never once has it even occurred to have my father defend me from the slings and arrows that are inevitable but well done. You got me to watch, and you got exactly what you wanted. In less than a year, Christian Pulisic and USMNT will be at center stage of the world's biggest sporting event. (Photo by Mark Thorstenson/ISI Photos/USSF/Getty Images for USSF) For a team that has produced so much angst and concern over what's happening on and off the field, you should be doing anything to get into the good graces of an American public that is dying to love you and support you. Everything that you do that possibly puts you in a negative light and makes you look like the babies or the weaklings that you are accusing others of labeling you as. That's the problem. You can correct it ultimately on the field, and that's where the road meets the road. That's where your legacy, whatever it ends up being. You should be so lucky that it is even close to Landon Donovan – and that's where it's going to happen next summer at the World Cup. Alexi Lalas is a soccer analyst for FOX Sports and host of "Alexi Lalas' State of the Union Podcast." He represented the USMNT at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and had a nine-year professional career. In 2006, he became the president of the LA Galaxy and helped bring David Beckham to Major League Soccer. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Kim Davis End Of Same-Sex Marriage Jokes
The internet is collectively roasting Kim Davis. A little context: Kim was the Kentucky county clerk who made headlines for refusing to give marriage licenses to LGBTQ+ couples after same-sex marriage was legalized in 2015. The courts ordered her to cut the crap, but she refused, citing her Christian faith, and was thrown in jail. Memes and jokes abounded, and it become a whole thing. She was even mocked by SNL in a parody film trailer called God Is a Boob Man. So, why is Kim trending again? Well, a decade after making a fool of herself in front of the whole country, she's back for more. According to ABC News, she's appealing the jury verdict that ordered her to pay $100,000 for emotional damages and $260,000 for attorneys' fees. Additionally, Kim argues that the First Amendment — which protects the right to practice your religion — means she shouldn't face any consequences for denying those marriage licenses back in 2015. Furthermore, she wants the Supreme Court's Obergefell v. Hodges decision overturned and called it "egregiously wrong." In the fall, the Supreme Court justices will privately choose which cases to take on, and they'll review Kim's case at that time, per ABC News. That's already a lot, but the internet is really coming so hard for Kim because of her personal marital history. Naturally, people had a lot to say about all this: Note: The photo of Kim in the original tweet was replaced here due to photo rights.
