WWE has announced that the former World Heavyweight Champion, GUNTHER, is out of action indefinitely. The announcement was made on the August 4th episode of Monday Night Raw, just two days after he lost his title in the main event of SummerSlam Night One.
On the broadcast, commentator Michael Cole provided a storyline explanation for the former champion's upcoming absence. The on-screen injury is being used to write "The Ring General" off of television.

A Brutal Diagnosis For GUNTHER
Michael Cole stated to the television audience that during his match with CM Punk at SummerSlam, GUNTHER suffered a septal hematoma and an orbital blowout fracture. These severe-sounding facial injuries are the official storyline reason why he will be away from WWE programming.
The on-air announcement provides a kayfabe explanation for the bloody nose GUNTHER was shown with at the conclusion of the SummerSlam main event.
WWE Blending Fact And Fiction
This storyline injury appears to be a masterful way to write GUNTHER off television so he can undergo a legitimate medical procedure. It was previously reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer that the bloody finish at SummerSlam was a planned angle. The purpose was to provide cover for GUNTHER to have legitimate nose surgery in the near future.
By creating a severe storyline injury, WWE is able to protect the aura of the nearly unbeatable "Ring General," even in defeat. The narrative suggests he lost his title while battling through serious fractures, making him look incredibly tough.

The End Of A Dominant WWE Era
GUNTHER's time off comes at the end of one of the most dominant runs in modern WWE history. Before winning the World Heavyweight Championship, he held the Intercontinental Championship for a record-breaking 666 days, a reign that is widely credited with restoring prestige to the title. His hard-hitting, physical style has made him one of the most respected and feared in-ring performers in the world.
His loss to CM Punk at SummerSlam was a massive moment, and it was immediately followed by chaos. Seth Rollins, revealing his own recent injury was a work, successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Punk to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. GUNTHER's absence now clears the way for the new feud between Rollins and Punk to take center stage on Raw.

Woman Adopts 'Cuddly' Shelter Puppy—No One Expecting What He Turns Into
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A woman who adopted a puppy from a local shelter had no idea what he would look like as an adult, only for him to transform into a highly unusual-looking dog. Anna Winning, 34, adopted puppy Rolo from the Cork Dog Action Welfare Group (DAWG) in 2024, when he was around nine weeks old. She had wanted a dog for a long time, and when her sister-in-law sent her a photo of Rolo at the shelter, they organized a visit—and were immediately "smitten." Rolo was tiny at the time, and a shelter worker asked if Winning and her husband, David, were certain, because "he's going to be big." As she told Newsweek: "We didn't realize how right she'd be," as Rolo grew, and grew, and grew—into a uniquely beautiful big dog. "I could tell by his ribcage that he was a lurcher, but based on his colorings, we thought it was crossed with a rottweiler. But as he grew, his face was definitely the wrong shape," she said. "What was most noticeable—apart from his long legs!—was his wispy eyebrows that kept getting longer and longer. His fur also got longer and thicker, and it was coming in quite gray which can make him look older than he is! His blue eyes turned golden, which get loads of compliments." Rolo's transformation has now gone viral, after DAWG shared an update on their former puppy to their Facebook page, Cork Dog Action Welfare Group, on August 1. Rolo as a puppy. Rolo as a puppy. Anna Winning/ Cork Dog Action Welfare Group In the post, they explained how Rolo and his brother had come into their care after a person who claimed to have found them abandoned "dropped off two very young and tiny puppies," with "no idea" of their breed or parentage. At the time, they said, "Rolo was very sick and was touch and go a couple of times"—but as he recovered, and after being taken in by experienced foster Emma, Winning and her husband contacted the shelter. They were "looking for a cuddly friend who likes walking," DAWG said. But, "we couldn't predict just how big and cuddly he would get! Rolo has turned into a STUNNER!" The shelter shared photos of Rolo as a puppy, with his brown, tan and white markings and unusual green eyes, his large paws at such a young age already hinting that he would become a big dog. But no one expected what he would look like as an adult: in updated photos, Rolo is enormous, with brown-and-blonde wiry fur, and bright golden eyes. The dog is tall and long, with a narrow face, long legs and a slender body—and his post racked up more than 1,300 likes, as commenters were in disbelief at the transformation. "Stunning looking dog," one user wrote, with another agreeing he is an "absolute stunner," and more calling him "beautiful." "What a beautiful dog the markings are gorgeous. So glad he is well and happy," another said. Rolo now, at 11 months old. Rolo now, at 11 months old. Anna Winning/ Cork Dog Action Welfare Group Many guessed at what his breed could be, with suggestions ranging from a lurcher and Saluki to an Irish Wolfhound—and many more praised DAWG, Rolo's foster family, and his new owners, for giving him a happy life. And Winning revealed to Newsweek that those commenters were all right: after being "stopped all the time from people asking what he is, as he's just so unusual," they undertook a DNA test. Rolo is a mix of a Saluki, a greyhound, and has 2 percent Scottish deerhound heritage, which she described as a "smaller version of an Irish wolfhound, so people weren't far off." Speaking about her beloved pet, who at 11 months old likely still has "some growing to do," she described a "very sweet," but "stubborn at times" dog who loves a nap "in one of his many beds." "He loves to chew on anything he can get a hold of, but thankfully has mostly left our furniture alone! He has a few friends he likes to play with at the park, and his favorite thing is chasing and being chased. "He's very fast but occasionally meets his match! When he's playing with other dogs, nothing else is as important—not even his favourite treats of chicken or cheese can stop him playing." In the United States, millions of animals like Rolo are in need: in 2024 alone, 5.8 million dogs and cats entered shelters and rescues across the country, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). At the same time, 4.2 million shelter animals were adopted the same year. Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share? Couple Get Engaged, They Can't Believe What Their Golden Retriever Captures
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Many couples hire a photographer to capture the special moment when they get engaged, but that wasn't necessary for two childhood sweethearts who got their golden retriever to film the entire proposal instead. As you can imagine, the footage is a mixture of joy, excitement, and the zoomies. On July 4, paramedic Emily Ward and her now fiancé Jacob Oxlade, both 27, headed over to Horseshoe Bay on their boat. They went for a gorgeous sunset walk with their golden retriever, Murphy, who had a GoPro camera attached to him so they could capture as much footage as possible. Ward, of Brisbane, Australia, told Newsweek that she "didn't question it too much" as her partner said he needed camera footage to share with their photographer friend. But as the evening unfolded, there turned out to be a very different reason for the camera—as Oxlade got down on one knee. "It was quiet, thoughtful, and perfect—I couldn't have dreamed it better. Jacob was so thoughtful—I had only ever said I didn't want it to be in a busy place. I just wanted it to be the two of us, and Murphy of course." With the camera on his back, 4-year-old Murphy had a very integral role to play as the engagement photographer. The adorable footage shows just how happy Murphy was for his owners, who have been together since they were 14 years old. He sat in the middle of them during the proposal, and then when Ward started to jump around excitedly, he instantly got the zoomies. Would you expect anything less? Ward was left speechless when she watched the footage back, and it's become something she will "treasure forever." She continued: "I couldn't have imagined anything more special, and I feel incredibly lucky to have a partner who knows me so well. That video is a keepsake I'll always hold close. I never would've pictured something like that for myself, but now I can't imagine it any other way." Indeed, her favorite part of the video (aside from the proposal itself, obviously) is when Murphy turns around and realizes there's a camera attached to him, and then immediately starts zooming around once again. He ran straight past his owners and ran towards the boat instead. No matter how many times she watches it, that particular moment leaves Ward in hysterics every time. Ward shared the footage on TikTok (@ and it's delighted social media users, leading to more than 644,100 views and 116,900 likes at the time of writing. TikTok users have hailed Murphy's cinematic masterpiece, and many even suggested that he should film the wedding too. He will certainly have a role to play on the big day, as Ward told Newsweek that he will get to enjoy "his special moment" walking down the aisle. Murphy the golden retriever filming the proposal. We've been together since we were 14, and for a long time, neither of us really wanted a wedding or marriage. We both come from families where marriage didn't always work out, and that shaped our thinking early on. But as we've grown up together, we've realized we're not our parents. We're us, and I wouldn't change anything about our story," Ward said. In just a matter of days, the TikTok video has generated over 900 comments as social media users praised Murphy's Oscar-worthy directorial debut. One comment reads: "This is a cinematic experience. Camera work 100/10. Good boy 1,000/10." Another TikTok user wrote: "Surely he's filming the wedding." Another person replied: "I think this is my favorite proposal video ever." While one commenter joked: "He's watched their whole love zoomie was his standing ovation." Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
