Social media, GPS link Miami man to ramming of police vehicle during street takeover, investigators say

CBS News01-04-2025

A man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly ramming a stolen Jeep into a police vehicle and launching fireworks at an officer during a chaotic illegal street takeover in Miami Gardens on November of 2024.
Loay Ihsan Hussein, 20, was arrested on Monday, March 31, following a months-long investigation that linked him to the violent incident through social media posts, GPS data and fingerprint evidence.
The confrontation, captured on video and widely circulated online, left an officer fearing for his life and a police vehicle damaged.
The arrest report details how an officer responded to reports of an illegal intersection takeover at NE 183rd Street and NE 2nd Court around 3:36 a.m. on November 30.
Upon arrival, he observed a crowd watching a silver Chrysler 300 performing reckless donuts.
As he activated his lights and sirens to disperse the group, a black Jeep Grand Cherokee Track Hawk emerged from the northwest, accelerating toward his marked Dodge Durango in an apparent attempt to strike it head-on.
Authorities said the officer reversed to avoid the collision, but the Jeep struck his vehicle's front end before fleeing eastbound.
During the encounter, fireworks were launched from the Jeep's direction, exploding on the officer's vehicle and causing damage, according to the arrest report.
Investigators later determined the Jeep was stolen earlier that night from Pembroke Pines.
Video evidence from the scene, posted on the "Only in Dade" social media page, corroborated the officer's account, showing the Jeep's aggressive maneuvers and the fireworks attack.
Detectives traced the Jeep to its recovery location in Pembroke Park later that day, where it was returned to the girlfriend of the vehicle's owner.
She told detectives she was unaware of the Jeep's involvement in the crime until friends alerted her to news reports and social media posts.
She provided a social media image of a masked male standing in front of the Jeep shortly after it was stolen.
Further investigation zeroed in on an Instagram account where a user posted a photo of himself with the Jeep and a taunting caption: "WHO MIGHT THAT BE" with a smiling emoji.
Detectives identified the account owner as Hussein through additional posts and matched the Jeep's distinctive features to crime scene photos.
Fingerprint evidence lifted from the Jeep's sunroof and GPS data placing the vehicle at the incident cemented Hussein's connection to the crime. He was taken into custody and declined to speak without an attorney present.
Hussein now faces charges including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on an officer, criminal mischief over $1,000 and throwing a deadly missile.
He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and is being held without bond.

Attempted murder arrests after boy, 15, stabbed

Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in a country park. The boy was found injured on Margaret Terrace in New Herrington, Sunderland at about 18:10 BST on Friday, Northumbria Police said. He was taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries were described as not life-threatening. Two boys, aged 16, and one girl, 15, are being questioned in police custody. Ch Supt Nicola Walker said the force believed the boy was stabbed in Herrington Country Park. She appealed for witnesses to come forward. "We know this is a high footfall area, and it's likely there were lots of people in and around the park the time of the incident," she said. Khaby Lame Was Detained by ICE, Agency Confirms

Let's cut to the chase. Yes, the world's top TikToker Khaby Lame was detained by ICE, the agency confirmed on June 7. 'U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations,' ICE confirmed to Men's Journal in an emailed statement after Men's Journal asked whether it was true that ICE had arrested the popular TIkToker. 'Lame entered the United States April 30 and overstayed the terms of his visa. Lame was granted voluntary departure June 6 and has since departed the U.S.,' ICE wrote. That news came after confusion erupted because Lame is not in the ICE arrest database. Furthermore, he's been posting on Instagram and on TikTok since the rumor went viral, including in a bookstore. Men's Journal asked ICE public relations about the viral and unverified rumor that Lame was arrested, which started on the X page of a social media influencer named Bo Louden. A spokeswoman for ICE, Alethea Smock, told Men's Journal on the evening of June 6 that she was looking into it, and the agency responded with the statement on June 7. On June 7, Lame posted several times to his Instagram story, including a post in a bookstore, holding a book. He also wished a top athlete a happy birthday. The moral of the story is to not instantly believe everything you read on the Internet. Furthermore, X's Grok was already warning on June 6 that the rumor was likely false. And Lame posted this video on TikTok on June 7: In a June 6, 2025, post, Louden alleged that Lame - who has more than 162 million followers on TikTok - was arrested by ICE in Nevada and is in custody, and he shared a supposed ICE database screenshot in the name of Serigne Khabane Lame of Senegal. The post then ricocheted around social media and was viewed hundreds of thousands of times. A community note was quickly attached to his post. "Khaby Lame is still living in Italy, and was granted citizenship there in 2022. ICE is a U.S.-based organization and cannot deport someone not living in the USA," it read. But here's the thing. When you try it yourself, you get zero results. No evidence of Khaby Lame, Khabane Lame, or Serigne Khabane Lame being in ICE custody (as the screenshot lists). Nothing. Zero results come up also when you put the supposed A-Number from the screenshot into the database. In other words, the screenshot is impossible to replicate. That's likely because Lame was allowed to voluntarily leave the country, though, per the new statement. On Louden's comment thread on X, other people wrote that they also got no results when they tried to replicate it in the official database, and they accused him of perpetrating a hoax. Lame is an Italian citizen. Furthermore, Italian citizens do not need a visa to be in the United States for up to 90 days. KRON4 confirmed that Khaby Lame was born in Senegal. He is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. "Lame moved to Italy from his native Senegal when he was an infant with his working class parents, but was only granted Italian citizenship when he was 20," that site reported. In 2024, he starred in a show about trying to find a new home in the U.S. In early May, Lame was photographed attending the Met Gala in New York. Moped rider seriously hurt in hit-and-run crash

A moped rider has been seriously hurt in a hit-and-run crash with a car. Leicestershire Police said he was involved in a head-on crash with the car in East Park Road, Leicester, shortly after 12:00 BST on Friday. Detectives said the car, believed to be a green Mercedes E-Class, left without stopping and they are now trying to find the driver. The moped rider, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he remained on Saturday, a spokesperson added. Officers said it was thought the car left the area along East Park Road towards St Saviour's Road. They have appealed to anyone who saw the crash, which happened near the junction with Blanklyn Avenue, to contact them. They said they also wanted to hear from anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage, taken in the area at the time. Follow BBC Leicester on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram.
