Social media, GPS link Miami man to ramming of police vehicle during street takeover, investigators say
Loay Ihsan Hussein, 20, was arrested on Monday, March 31, following a months-long investigation that linked him to the violent incident through social media posts, GPS data and fingerprint evidence.
The confrontation, captured on video and widely circulated online, left an officer fearing for his life and a police vehicle damaged.
The arrest report details how an officer responded to reports of an illegal intersection takeover at NE 183rd Street and NE 2nd Court around 3:36 a.m. on November 30.
Upon arrival, he observed a crowd watching a silver Chrysler 300 performing reckless donuts.
As he activated his lights and sirens to disperse the group, a black Jeep Grand Cherokee Track Hawk emerged from the northwest, accelerating toward his marked Dodge Durango in an apparent attempt to strike it head-on.
Authorities said the officer reversed to avoid the collision, but the Jeep struck his vehicle's front end before fleeing eastbound.
During the encounter, fireworks were launched from the Jeep's direction, exploding on the officer's vehicle and causing damage, according to the arrest report.
Investigators later determined the Jeep was stolen earlier that night from Pembroke Pines.
Video evidence from the scene, posted on the "Only in Dade" social media page, corroborated the officer's account, showing the Jeep's aggressive maneuvers and the fireworks attack.
Detectives traced the Jeep to its recovery location in Pembroke Park later that day, where it was returned to the girlfriend of the vehicle's owner.
She told detectives she was unaware of the Jeep's involvement in the crime until friends alerted her to news reports and social media posts.
She provided a social media image of a masked male standing in front of the Jeep shortly after it was stolen.
Further investigation zeroed in on an Instagram account where a user posted a photo of himself with the Jeep and a taunting caption: "WHO MIGHT THAT BE" with a smiling emoji.
Detectives identified the account owner as Hussein through additional posts and matched the Jeep's distinctive features to crime scene photos.
Fingerprint evidence lifted from the Jeep's sunroof and GPS data placing the vehicle at the incident cemented Hussein's connection to the crime. He was taken into custody and declined to speak without an attorney present.
Hussein now faces charges including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on an officer, criminal mischief over $1,000 and throwing a deadly missile.
He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and is being held without bond.

Modesto homeowner says a car crashed into her home again, calls for change
A car crashed into a home in Modesto over the weekend, coming way too close for comfort for the family inside. Homeowner Denise Barzan said it happened on Saturday around 4 p.m. when a car sped off Briggsmore Avenue, plowed through the wood fence, crashed entirely through the garage and then went in reverse back out onto the street. "Again. It's happened again?" said Barzan. Barzan said it was about the tenth time a car crashed into the neighborhood off Briggsmore Avenue. Barzan shared photos of the driver's busted-up Jeep and the immediate aftermath. On Sunday, the garage was boarded up, but there was still a mangled mess of fencing, patio furniture, and even debris that flew on top of the roof. "They said it was really like something just out of a movie," said Barzan. Barzan said the home has been in her family for about 30 years, but the current tenants who live there have a little boy who usually plays inside the garage or on the patio. She is thankful no one was in these spots at the time of the crash. Modesto Fire responded to the crash and confirmed there were no injuries. "The real scary thing is, is that this tenant has a little boy, that garage is kind of a play area," said Barzan. "It just literally plowed right through that if he would have been home." Teodore Mendoza heard the booming crash from his home next door. "I hoped nobody died," said Mendoza. His home has a cement wall that a previous homeowner built behind it, but Mendoza said the city has raised concerns about how dangerous it could be if a driver were to hit the cement. "If this thing is not here, they are going to go into the house and I have my kids and wife in there, so it's either them or my family," Mendoza said. Barzan is brainstorming how she will build back her barricade better, but she does not want to find a solution alone this time. "There was one year that three times in one year that the fence had to be rebuilt in that exact location," said Barzan. She claims the city wasn't helpful after past crashes, but hopes this time it will be different. "I don't expect them to take care of our property, but they need to do something to make a little bit of effort to make this secure," Barzan said. The speed limit on the street is 50 miles per hour. She hopes her story will prevent the speedsters and protect the families who live in the homes only separated from the city road by an inconsistent stretch of fencing. CBS Sacramento reached out to the city and police to learn more about the crash and the history of accidents at the location. Neither immediately responded before this story was published.

Michael Franti denies abuse allegations after Soulshine cruise canceled
Spearhead frontman Michael Franti has denied allegations of grooming and sexual abuse, but acknowledged a romantic relationship outside his marriage with an artist he worked with. The revelations coincided with the cancellation of his annual Soulshine at Sea concert cruise. 'I'm aware of the recent posts this artist made about our relationship, and while I support her need to express herself publicly, the relationship was completely consensual, based on mutual feelings and attraction,' Franti wrote in a statement on Sunday, Aug. 17. 'I vehemently dispute any version of the story that says otherwise.' The Oakland-born musician, a regular attraction at local festivals such as BottleRock Napa Valley and Stern Grove, added: 'I will, however, take full accountability for not better recognizing the power imbalance — as she was younger than me, and I was the headliner on tour. For those reasons alone, I never should have allowed the relationship to become romantic.' Franti's statement followed mounting scrutiny after singer-songwriter Victoria Canal alleged in an Instagram post that she had been groomed and sexually abused by a much older, 'very powerful' man in the music industry when she was 19. Canal did not name Franti, but she has previously credited him with discovering her on Instagram in 2018, when she was 19, and inviting her on tour. I didn't have time to do anything," Alexandrova's husband told Rossiyskaya Gazeta in a statement translated from Russian. He recalled that Alexandrova was unconscious after the impact, adding, 'Everything was covered in blood.' The husband additionally told Rossiyskaya Gazeta that other drivers stopped to help, and that emergency services arrived on the scene within about 15 minutes. Alexandrova was transported to a hospital in Moscow, but her injuries ultimately proved fatal. She had married her husband four months before the accident, according to her Instagram. In addition to her modeling career, Alexandrova represented Russia in the Miss Universe pageant in 2017. She was also first runner-up in the Miss Russia competition earlier that same year, per Us Weekly.
