Haryana: 1 dead, 1 injured in firing outside mall in Panchkula; probe underway
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta confirmed that the deceased has been identified as Sonu Nolta.
'At around 10.45 pm, we received information that a firing incident took place. Upon reaching the spot, we came to know that two persons named Sonu Nolta and one other person were shot at by some miscreants. Sonu Nolta has died in the incident. The other person is out of danger... Some people have taken responsibility, we are investigating it further...' DCP Gupta told ANI.
Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, a separate tragic incident in Panchkula occurred earlier on May 27, when seven members of a family from Dehradun were found dead inside a car parked in Sector 27.
The deceased were identified as Praveen Mittal (42), his parents, wife, two daughters, and a son. All seven bodies were found inside a locked car parked on the roadside, outside a house in the residential area.
Panchkula DCP Himadri Kaushik and DCP Law and Order Amit Dahiya immediately reached the location and began an investigation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Panchkula, Himadri Kaushik, said, 'We received information that six people have been brought to Ojas Hospital. When we reached here, we found out that they are all dead. Another person was brought to the Civil Hospital, Sector 6; he has also been declared dead. Prima facie, it looks like a matter of suicide. All the investigating officers are at the spot...All of the deceased are family members...'
The police recovered a suicide note from the car. However, the full contents of the note were not disclosed.
According to the police, the family appeared to be under immense financial pressure, which could have driven them to suicide.
As per the preliminary investigation, the family consumed poison in a suspected case of mass suicide, possibly driven by heavy debt and financial distress.
Sources said Praveen Mittal and his family had travelled from Dehradun to attend a Hanuman Katha event organised by Bageshwar Dham. The event had recently concluded, and the family was reportedly returning to Dehradun when they took the extreme step.
A forensic team collected evidence from the scene. All seven bodies were taken to local private hospital mortuaries for postmortem examinations, which are expected to help confirm the cause of death and support the ongoing investigation. (ANI)

New Delhi: Industrialist Anil Ambani on Tuesday appeared before the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in connection with an alleged fund diversion case, two people aware of the development said. The agency, which probes money laundering and violations of foreign exchange laws, is investigating an alleged diversion of funds from Reliance Infrastructure to a related party without adequate disclosures. The company had last week said this exposure was of ₹ 6,500 crore and that it had disclosed this matter in February itself. Reliance Infrastructure maintains it has diligently pursued recovery of its dues in this matter, and through mandatory mediation proceedings conducted by a retired Supreme Court Judge and the mediation award filed before the Bombay High Court, the company had arrived at a settlement to recover its exposure of ₹ 6,500 crore. Anil Ambani has not been on the board of Reliance Infrastructure since March 2022. Queries emailed to Anil Ambani's Reliance Group and to the finance ministry on Tuesday, seeking their comments on the latest development remained unanswered at the time of publishing this report. News agency ANI reported that Ambani was asked to appear before investigators in connection with a probe on suspected financial irregularities and possible violations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The probe agency is looking into the role of various entities and individuals linked to the case, ANI reported. In May 2020, the ministry of corporate affairs had referred the issue of Price Waterhouse & Co Chartered Accountants LLP's (PW) resignation as auditors of some of the group companies without giving an audit report for FY19, to the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA). NFRA had looked into the audits done by the auditors appointed subsequently in the case of Reliance Home Finance Ltd, Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd and Reliance Capital Ltd, and penalised the auditors for alleged professional misconduct, the authority's orders showed. Reliance Infrastructure provides engineering and construction services for power, roads, metro rail and other infrastructure sectors. It is also engaged in implementation, operation and maintenance of several projects in the defence sector and infrastructure areas through its special purpose vehicles, the company said on its website. It had executed the Mumbai Metro line one project and is also a utility company having presence across the value chain of energy businesses, the company said. The ED had earlier issued a lookout circular against Ambani and had sought his presence for recording his statement under the PMLA, Hindustan Times had reported on 1 August.

‘Malegaon Files': Film On 2008 Malegaon Blast Case Announced, To Be Directed By Rajiv S Ruia
Mumbai: A film based on the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case has been announced and has been titled 'Malegaon Files'. 'My Friend Ganesha' fame director Rajiv S Ruia will be directing the film, which is currently in the pre-production stage. The cast and crew of the movie have not been revealed yet by the makers. The film will be produced by Sahil Seth under the banner of Cinedust 18 Films Pvt. Ltd. According to a press note shared by the makers, the film aims to present a gripping and sensitive portrayal of the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts, which shook the nation and led to a long, complicated legal battle. "This is not just a story about a blast -- it's about what followed. The human stories, the political shadow, the search for truth, and the emotional and legal turmoil faced by the accused and the victims' families. 'Malegaon Files' is our attempt to bring that reality to the screen," director Rajiv S Ruia, said about the film in the press note. Ruia told ANI that the film is currently in the pre-production stage and will be shot on real locations. "Our writer team is in talks. It is a very sensitive subject. Every detail behind it needs to be brought out. Research is going on...99 per cent we will shoot on real locations. We will do recce soon," he said. According to the press note, the makers stated that the script is being developed with inputs from investigative reports, court documents, and real testimonies to ensure that the narrative remains grounded and respectful. The film is slated to go on floors by late 2025, with more details about the cast and shooting schedule expected to be revealed soon. The Malegaon blast tragedy took place on September 29, 2008 in which six people were killed and 95 others injured when an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle detonated near a mosque in Malegaon City's Bhikku Chowk. Originally, 11 people were accused in the case; however, the court ultimately framed charges against 7, including former MP Sadhvi Pragya. The Mumbai NIA court on July 31 acquitted all seven accused of being involved in the 2008 blasts in Malegaon, with the court saying the prosecution failed to establish the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The 2008 Malegaon blast case was transferred to the NIA in 2011 from the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). After a 17-year-long wait and examination of hundreds of witnesses, the NIA special court acquitted all seven people accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and all other charges.
