New Selangau road, school to be completed ahead of schedule
SIBU: The construction of a new road to Selangau town and SMK Selangau is targeted for earlier completion, to expedite the delivery of facilities to the people, says Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He said the state government aimed to ensure that both projects not only met specifications but were also completed ahead of the stipulated timeframe.
'This road, which provides new access to Selangau town, is supposed to be completed within 12 months, but we have asked for it to be finished within six months.
'The weather conditions are also good, and the work is not too difficult. I hope the Public Works Department (JKR) will continue to monitor the progress of this project comprehensively,' he told reporters after visiting the project site today.
According to him, the 450-metre road construction project, valued at RM3.5 million, is fully funded by the state government. It will provide direct access to Selangau town without the need for a long detour from the Pan Borneo Highway, thereby improving traffic flow and benefiting local residents.
Uggah, who is also Sarawak Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, also inspected the construction project for SMK Selangau, which is currently 4.34 per cent ahead of its original schedule.
'This school involves the construction of 18 classrooms with a cost of RM81.008 million. According to the original schedule, it should be completed by June 2027, but we have asked JKR and the contractor to complete it by December 2026 at the latest,' he said.
Uggah added that the project was funded by the Federal Government and implemented by the State Government. He expressed confidence that it could be completed on schedule due to stable site conditions and the use of the Industrialised Building System (IBS) method.
He further stated that JKR Sarawak would continue to monitor the implementation of both projects to ensure no delays occurred.
'The state government will also not hesitate to terminate the contracts of any project that fails to be completed according to plan, as has been done before,' he stressed.

He said the RM365.7 million project is currently slightly behind schedule at 52.45 per cent completion. 'The project was supposed to be at 59.75 per cent completion as per the schedule but there's a slight delay due to the technical issues especially in regard to the form traveller. 'The contractor is trying very hard to solve this issue and in fact, they are already committing to deliver two sets of form traveller all the way from China to continue with the rest of the works,' he told a press conference held in conjunction with his working visit to the site of the bridge here today. In view of this, he said that the scheduled project completion has been revised to February next year. 'The contractor is committed to complete it before June next year where by then the bridge can be used by the public,' he added. He said the ministry would continue to monitor the project along with other projects under their purview. 'We do have some projects that are behind schedule, which is why we activate our monitoring team and each month, we will hold meetings with the various agencies such as the Public Works Department (JKR), Economic Planning Unit (EPU), and the Land and Survey Department to resolve issues faced by the delayed projects. 'We are closely monitoring every single project in Sarawak and have given the contractors a tight schedule. 'This has enabled us to reduce the number of sick projects to less than five when compared to during the pre-pandemic, there were more than 100 sick projects,' he said. On a related matter, Aidel said the Second Trunk Road project, of which the bridge at Sejingkat is part of, is progressing very well. 'For this section, there are three packages altogether namely this bridge over Sarawak River at Sejingkat; the Tanjung Bako to Sejingkat (road project) which has already been completed; and the other adjoining section to Batang Samarahan which is still in progress and scheduled to be completed later next year. 'So, by September next year, the people will be able to use this Second Trunk Road where they can travel from Kuching to Samarahan to Batang Samarahan or from Batang Sejingkat to Batang Samarahan with no traffic congestion,' he said. For this year, he said the state is targeting to complete the Sungai Lingga Bridge next month. Aminuddin urges Selangor to expedite repairs on Genting Peras-Kuala Klawang road
SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has called on the Selangor government to expedite repair works on the Genting Peras-Kuala Klawang road that was damaged by floods four years ago. He said the road, which connects Jelebu in Negeri Sembilan and Hulu Langat in Selangor, could help ease traffic congestion, especially during festive seasons and school holidays, besides serving as an alternative route for motorists heading to Kuala Lumpur. 'The damaged section in Jelebu has already been repaired, but the part at the Selangor border isn't. I will write to the Selangor Menteri Besar urging prompt repairs. Since it was damaged in 2021, we have not been able to use the route fully until now. 'If the road is repaired, it can become an alternative route to the Klang Valley. Motorists won't have to go through Seremban, they can go via Genting Peras from Jelebu into Hulu Langat and straight to Kuala Lumpur or Selangor,' he told a press conference after chairing the state executive council meeting here today. The Kuala Klawang-Genting Peras road has been closed to traffic since December 2021 after it was damaged by floods and landslides. Meanwhile, Aminuddin, who is also the Port Dickson Member of Parliament, said the state government has allocated RM1 million for a solar-powered lighting programme in rural areas, including Orang Asli villages. 'The RM2 million allocated by the Public Works Department for lighting is insufficient, as there are still poorly lit areas, so we've added another RM1 million. 'This is to ensure that attention is given to marginalised rural areas. It's part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and provide comfort and security to road users,' he said.
