Jaya Bachchan Blames Internet For 'Anxiety Attacks'; Shweta Bachchan Shocked: ‘We Never Heard Of It'

In the candid conversation, Jaya Bachchan expressed concern over how excessive exposure to the digital world is affecting the mental health of Gen Z.
Veteran actor and parliamentarian Jaya Bachchan is not one to mince words, and in a resurfaced episode of her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda's podcast What The Hell Navya, she once again sparked debate for blaming the internet for the rise in anxiety among young people.
In the candid conversation, Jaya Bachchan expressed concern over how excessive exposure to the digital world is affecting the mental health of Gen Z. She said that younger people today feel the need to constantly validate themselves online, which adds unnecessary stress and contributes to what she calls an epidemic of anxiety.
'Navya, what happens among your generation is that 'answer to the calls quickly, reply to texts quickly'. You get your validation from what you see on the internet and your phone," Jaya said. 'Are we looking nice? Are we thinking correctly? If you are saying the right thing? All this increases your stress levels," she added.

When Navya asked whether her generation is more stressed because of the internet, Jaya didn't hesitate to say, 'Definitely." She also claimed that the concept of anxiety attacks didn't exist during her youth or even midlife. 'We hadn't heard of an anxiety attack when we were kids. Let alone our childhood, we never heard it in our midlife also," she said. According to Jaya, 'too much information" about appearance, beauty routines, and social comparison is what fuels anxiety in today's generation.
However, Jaya's daughter, Shweta Bachchan, offered a counterpoint. She argued that anxiety has always existed but is now more widely acknowledged. 'Anxiety was always there. It's now more identifiable. It's more spoken about," Shweta said. She also pointed out that even Jaya herself has admitted to feeling anxious, adding, 'It's just more vocal."

Himachal govt seeks separate e-way bill to track narcotic substances under GST

Shimla, Aug 9 (PTI) In a move to curb the growing menace of drug abuse and prevent the diversion of narcotic substances from pharma companies, the Himachal Pradesh government has formally approached the GST Council, seeking the introduction of a dedicated e-way bill mechanism specifically for narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. With this step, the government aims to enable real-time monitoring of their movement across the supply chain, thereby tightening control at every stage. A state government spokesperson on Saturday said a committee was being constituted under the chairmanship of the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) to oversee operations of licensed pharmaceutical companies dealing in narcotic formulations. 'This committee will include officers from the excise department, Police and Drug Control Authority and would be tasked with ensuring compliance with regulatory norms and preventing misuse of narcotic substances" he said. 'In addition, the Department of State Taxes and Excise has imposed quantity restrictions on the handling of narcotic drugs by license holders. This measure is intended to minimise the risk of excess stock being diverted for illegal use" he said. The spokesperson further added that the government was currently revising the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Rules, 1989 and updating the Integrated Drug Prevention Policy, aiming to strengthen the overall legal and administrative framework for drug control in the state. 'In line with its commitment to grassroots-level enforcement and public awareness, the government has also constituted district-level committees under the chairmanship of the respective deputy commissioners. These committees will ensure effective implementation of laws, facilitate inter-departmental coordination, and organize awareness campaigns, particularly targeting the youth" he said. Hours Before Heading Home For Raksha Bandhan, Nurse Found Dead In Odisha Hospital

Last Updated: A nurse was found dead in a Bhubaneswar hospital bathroom with a needle in her hand, hours before Raksha Bandhan. Her family suspects foul play; police are investigating. A nurse was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the bathroom of a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, just hours before she was scheduled to return home to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. The woman, while on duty, was found dead with a needle inserted in the back of her hand. Her brother told NDTV that police suspect she may have injected herself with a substance, leading to her death. However, the family has alleged the involvement of the hospital authorities, questioning why they were informed about her death only two hours after her body was discovered. 'We were initially told that she was found unconscious in the bathroom. Now, police are saying they found a syringe in her hand, which indicates suicide. I am unaware of any disturbance in her personal or professional life that could have led her to take such a drastic step," he said. According to the nurse's brother, they had recently spoken over the phone, and she was excited to go home in the Ganjam district to celebrate Raksha Bandhan after her duty hours. Police are probing the death from multiple angles, including accidental causes, health issues, personal relationships, workplace harassment, and family disputes. They are reviewing the hospital's CCTV footage and questioning staff members as part of the investigation, NDTV reported. Police have been deployed at the hospital. Earlier, in a similar incident reported on May 30, a nurse was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Cuttack. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. New COVID-19 Variant Stratus Spreading In US: Here's What To Watch For

A new COVID-19 variant, Stratus (XFG), is rapidly spreading across the United States. It is characterised by a distinctive early symptom of hoarseness. A new COVID-19 variant, nicknamed 'Stratus' and officially called XFG, is gaining attention in the United States this summer. Health experts are closely monitoring its spread, though it is not yet considered a major threat. XFG was first detected in Southeast Asia in January. For months, there were almost no cases reported in the US. But by late June, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that XFG accounted for 14 per cent of all US COVID-19 cases, making it the third most common variant in the country. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has added XFG to its list of monitored variants, but currently rates its global health risk as 'low." According to the WHO, existing COVID-19 vaccines are still expected to protect against both symptomatic and severe illness caused by this strain. What Makes Stratus (XFG) Different? As reported by Hindustan Times, XFG is a recombinant strain, meaning it is a genetic mix of two earlier variants, F.7 and LP.8.1.2. Interestingly, LP.8.1.2 is now the second most common variant in the US. Scientists believe XFG may have certain mutations that help it evade the immune system more effectively than some earlier strains. However, this doesn't mean it spreads faster or causes worse illness. How Quickly Is It Spreading? While XFG has not surpassed the top two variants in the US, its growth has been steady. It made up 0 per cent of cases in March, rose to 2 per cent in April, 6 per cent in May, and 14 per cent by the end of June, according to CDC data. Globally, the WHO reported a similar rise from 7.4 per cent of cases in early May to 22.7 per cent by the end of June, spreading across 38 countries. Symptoms to Watch For The CDC notes that symptoms of XFG appear similar to earlier Omicron variants. Common signs include: Fever or chills, Cough, Fatigue, Sore throat, Loss of taste or smell, Nasal congestion, Muscle aches, Shortness of breath, Headache, Nausea, Vomiting Health experts recommend remaining cautious and getting tested if any symptoms develop.
