Netflix secures broadcast rights for Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford boxing mega-fight
The biggest boxing fight of 2025 has found a home on the biggest streaming service in the world.
Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford, the Sept. 13 mega-fight between pound-for-pound greats for the sport's undisputed super middleweight titles, will be streamed globally by Netflix at no additional cost to its subscribers, Turki Alalshikh announced Tuesday.

In a major victory for the sport, Alvarez vs. Crawford becomes the third boxing event over a span of just 10 months to stream on the Netflix platform, which boasts more than 300 million global subscribers.
The controversial Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul heavyweight fight became the first boxing event on Netflix this past November, ultimately being watched by an audience exceeding 65 million viewers. Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 2 was the co-feature on that night, and now the two future Hall of Famers are set to headline Netflix's second boxing event with their trilogy fight on July 11 in New York.
Additionally, Alalshikh said that Alvarez vs. Crawford will take place in Las Vegas but did not name a venue.
Allegiant Stadium was originally supposed to host Alvarez vs. Crawford on Sept. 12, however once the date of the fight changed to Sept. 13, it was unable to do so, as the venue had a preexisting booking with the UNLV Rebels vs. Idaho State college football game.

It was then announced that Saudi-owned Sela would be the lead promoter for the highly anticipated 168-pound showdown instead of TKO Boxing — the latter being an entity formed by Alalshikh, UFC CEO Dana White and WWE president Nick Khan earlier this year. White and the UFC faced a dilemma when the date shifted from Sept. 12 to Sept. 13, as the UFC had already committed to promoting its Noche UFC 3 event on that date. However, construction delays at Mexico's Arena Guadalajara forced the show to be moved to San Antonio and become a Fight Night event rather than the originally-planned pay-per-view card.
After this happened, White was able to commit to Alvarez vs. Crawford again, and thus TKO will be the lead promoter for the event. Allegiant Stadium is also understood to be back in play to host the show, with a potential deal in the works to shift the UNLV football game off the date.
Alvarez and Crawford will come face-to-face for a three-city press tour beginning on June 20 in Riyadh, then on June 22 in New York, before concluding June 27 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The UFC recently announced the five-fight main card for the next pay-per-view event on the 2025 UFC schedule. That fight card, UFC 317, takes place on June 28 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. UFC 317, which is headlined by two title fights, serves as the centerpiece for the 2025 version of the UFC's annual International Fight Week. The UFC officially announced the five-fight line-up for UFC 317 during the UFC 316 broadcast. When Topuria decided to move to lightweight and give up his featherweight title, he vowed to sit until he got a 155-pound title shot. That fight takes place at UFC 317. Alexandre Pantoja (29-5) is on a seven-fight winning streak heading into UFC 317. The 35-year-old Brazilian made his UFC debut in July 2017 with a split-decision win over Eric Shelton. Pantoja's career had its ups and downs over the next three years, where he went 5-3, but he has not lost since he dropped a decision to Askar Askarov in July 2020. Pantoja won the UFC flyweight title in July 2023 on the heels of two 'Performance of the Night' submission wins. Pantoja secured the 125-pound title with a split decision win over Brandon Moreno. Since that victory, Pantoja has defended his three times, beating Brandon Royval in December 2023 and Steve Erceg in May 2024. Both fights ended in decision victories. Pantoja picked up his 19th career finish in his third title defense, submitting Kai Asakura at UFC 310 in December 2024. Kai Kara-France (25-11-0-1) was 17-7-0-1 when he got the call from the UFC in 2019. In his first fight with the promotion, the New Zealander faced a short-notice opponent in Elias Garcia. Netflix released "Titan: The OceanGate Disaster" on June 11, a week before the two-year anniversary of the 2023 implosion that killed five people on a voyage to view the wreckage of the Titanic. The documentary focuses on the role of OceanGate CEO Stockon Rush and his role as CEO of OceanGate "his quest to become the next billionaire innovator," according to the documentary's synopsis. "'Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster' makes a belabored point that OceanGate's failings leading to the implosion stemmed from Rush's leadership," Eric Francisco of Esquire wrote. "His short temper and arrogance permeated in all his efforts to build a business around deep-sea commercial tourism." There were five people aboard the submersible on June 18, 2023 and were killed in the implosion: Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, French maritime and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and a father and son from one of Pakistan's most prominent families, Shahzada Dawood and Suleman Dawood. A series of hearings were held in 2024 as part of the investigation, and a lawsuit has been filed by the family of Nargeolet, claiming all five passengers probably experienced "terror and anguish" in their final moments. The hearings revealed one of the final messages sent from the crew before it was crushed by the pressure of the ocean: "All good here." Here's what you need to know about Stockton Rush. Who was Stockton Rush? Rush, 61, was a member of a prominent family in San Francisco and a descendant of two signers of the Declaration of Independence, SF Gate reported at the time of the implosion. The outlet reported that he was working as an aerospace engineer for McDonnell Douglas when he married his wife Wendy in 1986. Rush co-founded the company in 2009 and oversaw OceanGate's financial and engineering strategies, company's website said before being taken down in the wake of the implosion, USA TODAY previously reported. Titan danger: Titanic sub took on extreme danger, while 'breaking the rules' "We have heard the baseless cries of 'you are going to kill someone' way too often," Rush wrote in 2018 – according to The Conversation – after being told he was putting lives at risk using his experimental submersible. "I take this as a serious personal insult." In an interview with CBS News Unsung Science, he talked about his dreams of being an explorer − "I wanted to be sort of the Captain Kirk" − and fears about going underwater. "What I worry about most are things that will stop me from being able to get to the surface," he said. Still, he insisted on the safety of submersibles and the value of taking risks. "I mean, if you just want to be safe, don't get out of bed," he said. What happened to Titan? The submersible imploded about 1 hour and 45 minutes after its trip began, resulting in the deaths of its five passengers. Two weeks after the incident, OceanGate said on its website it had suspended "all exploration and commercial operations." Its headquarters in Everett, Washington, were shuttered. Its business license expired on June 7, 2024, according to Washington Department of Revenue records. The nonprofit research wing of the company, called OceanGate Foundation, was launched in 2010 but also closed in 2023, according to department records. OceanGate Inc. also operated a subsidiary, OceanGate Expeditions, out of the same office. According to Washington records, it closed on March 31, 2021.
