Kia unveils 2025 EV4 and EV2
America will get the four-door sedan in 2026, complete with its low nose, long tail, roof-mounted spoiler and a 17.3 cubic-foot trunk. Other markets will get an SUV-like five-door hatchback, with a squared-off rear backlight and less-radical styling.
While American-market specs have yet to be finalized, Kia did reveal the EV4's stats for overseas markets.
Standard models come equipped with a 58.3-kWh hour battery and 430 km (267 miles) of range. Long Range models get an 81.4-kWh battery and 630 km (391 miles) of range based on European WLTP testing. EPA figures will be about 20% lower.
With 150 kW (201 horsepower) of power, Kia claims the EV4 Standard has a 0-60 mph time of 7.4 seconds and 7.7 seconds on the Long Range.Inside, you'll find the same interior as in the smaller EV3, which is expected to go on sale in America sometime after the EV4 in 2026. It features the same 30-inch display that incorporates a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 5.3-inch climate control touchscreen and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Also present is the EV3's small tabletop that pops forward from the center console.
Kia plans to build 140,000 EV4s annually, with 50,000 slated for the U.S. The EV4 is expected to start at €37,000 ($38,841) including VAT, but prices for the American market have yet to be announced. The sedan will go on sale in Korea in March while the Europe-exclusive hatchback will follow in the second half of the year.
The Concept EV2 previews Kia's forthcoming B-segment all-electric SUV, also not slated to hit the U.S. market. Like any concept, it has some enticing styling details unlikely to reach production, like the rear-hinged back doors.Other ideas could be realized, such as a rear bench seat bottom that folds up, allowing the front-row seats to slide back for more space. The cargo area features pop-up sliding luggage dividers and straps to secure cargo. Other clever touches include the EV2's removable door-mounted speakers, which serve as portable speakers when tailgating or when parked at a charging station.
The interior is even more minimalistic than any Tesla model, something that we expect serves only as a proof of concept rather than an actual preview of the EV2's real design.
Kia also designed a lighting system that can display messages on the windows to communicate with other drivers. Given the lack of civility and common courtesy that abounds in society today, we're not so sure this is a good idea.Knowing that B-segment shoppers are price-sensitive, it's unlikely the Concept EV2's costlier ideas will see the light of day. Still, it reaffirms Kia's commitment to filling out its EV lineup from the smallest to the largest.
While it may not affect Kia's prospects stateside, the production EV2 is vital to the automaker's success in Europe.
'EV2 is an especially important volume model in Europe,' said Kia President and CEO, Ho Sung Song in an interview. 'I think that as long as the volume of electrification is increasing in Europe, we also make sure that we can increase our volume of EVs.'
Kia also introduced a line of PV electric vans to be sold in Asia, Europe, and possibly North America, which we will look at closer in a separate article. Stay tuned!

Warren Buffett's 'Mystery Stock' Revealed in New Filing
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Warren Buffett's multinational holding company Berkshire Hathaway has unveiled the "mystery stock" that had been kept hidden in previous financial results, ending months of speculation about the latest investment bet from the "Oracle of Omaha." A holding Barron's had valued at $4.8 billion was granted "confidential treatment" in recent quarterly filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). A 13-F report published on Thursday revealed that multiple investments comprised this "mystery stock," and that Berkshire had been building up stakes in steelmaker Nucor, as well as homebuilders Lennar and D.R. Horton. Why It Matters Buffett is among the most followed and revered investors in the world, given the staggering and market-beating returns Berkshire Hathaway has delivered during his six-decade tenure leading the conglomerate. As a result of this track record, Buffett's investments are often interpreted as a vote of confidence in a company's underlying strengths and its potential for strong returns. What To Know According to Thursday's filing, as of June 30, Berkshire held around 7.2 million shares of Lennar, 6.6 million of Nucor and 1.5 million shares of D.R. Horton, thanks to purchases made over the past two quarters. Following the report, all three companies saw noticeable upticks in their share price in after-hours trading. Photo illustration byLennar is one of the largest homebuilders in the U.S. and often viewed as a bellwether of the wider U.S. housing market. The stock is up around six percent in the year-to-date. Fellow homebuilder D.R. Horton is up around 20 percent. Meanwhile, North Carolina-based Nucor, a leading American steel producer, is up roughly 27 percent in 2025. Together, these investments were worth around 1.8 billion as of June 30, according to analysis by Barron's. In addition to these, Berkshire disclosed that it had purchased five million shares of embattled insurer UnitedHealth, acquiring a stake valued at approximately $1.6 billion. Beyond the high-profile assassination of CEO Brian Thompson last December, the company has also been grappling with a succession of financial difficulties. In late July, UnitedHealth reported that its earnings from operations had dropped to $5.2 billion in the second quarter from $7.9 billion for the comparable period in 2024, though revenue rose to $111.6 billion from $98.9 billion. The stock has fallen around 40 percent in the year-to-date, though it was up over 13 percent as of noon ET on Friday following Berkshire's stamp of approval. As well as Berkshire, CNBC reports that famed investor Michael Burry, known for his prophetic bets against the housing market ahead of the 2008 crash, has also built up a sizable stake in the company. During the second quarter, Berkshire also sold 20 million shares of Apple and 26 million shares of Bank of America, both among its biggest holdings, as well as its entire stake in T-Mobile. What People Are Saying UnitedHealth CEO Stephen Hemsley, during an earnings call last month, said: "We have the chance to reposition our enterprise as a far more modern, reliable, consumer and provider friendly enterprise using new technologies and approaches, and we are going to pursue that course. Pursuit of these opportunities aligns to and enables our reform and change mandate and allows us to better achieve our mission and to steadily perform better in doing so." Aswath Damodaran, professor of corporate finance and valuation at the Stern School of Business at New York University, told Newsweek he believed the recent investment were likely decisions made by other Berkshire executives. "If you think Warren Buffett is immersing himself in the finances and politics of health insurance at the age of 93, I think that you have a very different vision than I do," he said. What Happens Next Buffett will be stepping down as Berkshire's CEO at the end of this year. In May, he announced that Greg Abel, vice chair of noninsurance operations, would be taking over the role, but that he would remain chairman of the company's board of directors.

The case for GM's Mary Barra as one of the greatest automotive CEOs
General Motors' bold agreement to jointly develop five vehicles with Hyundai-Kia solidifies CEO Mary Barra's status as a transformative leader of a company that long seemed adrift. The deal encompasses gasoline, hybrid and electric power trains, deepening the giant automakers' alliance. They expect the vehicles' sales to top 800,000 a year. The vehicles include: The plan leverages each company's strengths. GM will lead development of the midsize pickup platform. Hyundai takes point on the others. The van will be built in the United States as soon as 2028. The other vehicles go on sale in 2028. Expect production in South America. An automaker that pivots News that GM will extend production of the Cadillac XT5 luxury SUV in Spring Hill, Tennessee — with updates to keep it relevant in an intensely competitive segment — is consistent with a hallmark of Barra's tenure. Barra has instilled adaptability in place of a corporate culture that seemed frozen in the headlights of change. Managing change Thus far, GM has managed the transition to electric power better than any mass manufacturer — with the possible exception of its seemingly unflappable partners at Hyundai-Kia. GM has introduced a broad range of appealing EVs — Cadillac Optiq, Vistiq, Lyriq and Escalade IQ; electric versions of the Chevrolet Equinox, Blazer, Silverado; premium EVs at GMC — while continuing to roll out first-rate internal combustion models. That bank shot has kept GM's core moneymaking vehicles fresh and competitive and allowed it to react to changing regulatory and market conditions. With a new generation of full-size pickups and SUVs around the corner, GM's prospects should get brighter over the next four to five years. Barra's leadership — and close collaboration with longtime professional partner, GM President Mark Reuss — has seen the automaker through upheavals ranging from a global pandemic to an administration undoing decades of trade, energy and environmental policy. 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcats: New 'jailbroken' model will offer 6 million customization combos Not every idea worked There have been mistakes. GM grievously underestimated the difficulty it would have building electric vehicle batteries at new U.S. plants. It should have kept the popular, affordable Chevrolet Bolt EV in production at least another 18 months. GM overestimated the adoption pace of electric pickups, but turned that miscalculation to its advantage, sidestepping tariffs by moving full-size pickup production to the plant where it had planned to build EV pickups. Going all-in on EVs left GM with a lack of competitive hybrids. Playing catch-up now, the new ones coming in 18 months or so better be outstanding. Some will likely come from the repurposed Orion Assembly plant. GM's decadelong, $10 billion autonomous-vehicle program continued after Ford and most others bailed out of self-driving cars. Most worrisome, it's unclear whether GM can succeed long-term in China. Despite those missteps, the trend line is positive. GM's leadership has been consistent in an era of upheaval. It invests ambitiously and largely well, developing a sensible and forward-looking range of vehicles and drivetrains. How's the competition doing? Other mass manufacturers have stumbled more. Stocking GM's cupboard Barra built a strong team. GM grew from a company that struggled to attract talent outside the Midwest to one with its pick from top organizations, and it gets raided for talent by the likes of Amazon and eBay. Tellingly, Ford recently named former GM, Amazon and Alto Pharmacy executive Alicia Boler Davis to head its crucial Ford Pro unit. It's time to acknowledge that Barra and Reuss form one of the best C-suite duos in automotive history. They labored together through years when poor planning and financial pressure kept GM from building the best vehicles its people could create. Determined not to go back, they'll be a tough act to follow. Contact Mark Phelan: mmphelan@ Follow him on Twitter @mark_phelan. Read more on autos and sign up for our autos newsletter.
